RPG player opinion in me not too into jaune

his semblance came to be a single target buff or heal which is a classic archetype for sword and board, as supports tend to have utility weapons to complement their kit. his high aura makes it so he can take hits, mitigate damage and heal damage, synergizing perfectly with the weapon.

this also made sense! because the entire development for him was being the not too strong, but excellent leader. the leader can be anyone who can make use of everyones strengths in harmony and minimize individual weaknesses in combat. thats the beauty of the leader. leaders dont have to be the strongest and fittest people, they just have to understand each individual potential and utilize it.

guess what though. his development fucking transitions this sword and shield and gives him a two handed sword. jaune goes and uses the two handed sword with minimal or no difficulty at all. great, we have a sword and shield on a two handed berserker sword and he also buffs and heals.

we couldve gone through so many other pathways! maybe jaune could extend his shield like Guardira's Hero Power from Patapon. maybe he could utilize aura boosted sword strikes and have empowered stance switches like Aegislash design.

the fundamental thing im trying to critique is the notion that changing to a DPS stance is automatic growth. i dont want to praise a sword and shield character switching to a berserker sword to be growth. i dont want to see a leader take on an unfamiliar weapon and DPS role just because thats considered growth. jaune taking on a completely different weapon form all of a sudden is fundamentally different than the other characters constantly switching weapons modes theyve had since the weapon was made. sword and shields are NOT passive weapons or any supportive weapons for that matter, and the transition to a berserker sword doesnt mean jaune was less of a fighter before.

for me personally, i would have liked jaune to develop as the safeguard of the team. he lost people he wanted to protect so it made sense to me to focus on the ability to guard and support. i would encourage jaune taking a more offensive stance in two handed if his semblance wasnt literally a support/self supporting function. it would be ultimately more empowering imo, if he just stayed with sword and shield, improving his craft, and staying away from the idea of switching forms like everyone elses weapon. he would be very unique to me otherwise.

i thought about it for a bit and while we havent seen raven use the portal in combat, its nice to think about summer possibly being a speed demon archetype and sorta working with raven.

summer could be really good at closing gaps and raven could possibly open portals near her, but the extent of her ability hasnt been fully demonstrated so just my musings. but it would be cool to see summer race up a kaiju, raven opens a portal to her and smacks down buck wild on it. theres a lot of potential for the ability that hasnt been fully explored.

right now its just the MMORPG warp stone and it feels bad when i compare it to that lmao.
