it’d been just another avengers’ tower party. long, full of weird people that shenever really remembered ( though they all seemed to know who she was ), morethan a little exhausting. bethany was ready for it to be over. she wanted to curl upin a quiet place, with a book, so she stole away when everyone was distracted, and the party was reaching it’s dramatic climax ( people were stuffed in so tightshe wasn’t sure how there was still oxygen in the room ). kirios appeared to be–enjoying himself, more or less, and so she let him be.
slipping into one of the many bathrooms, she leaned against the sink counter and took a moment to compose herself. fixing stray strands of hair back into their place on her head, touching up her makeup, straightening out the kinks in her dress —- but one hand drifted over her stomach, and panic immediately seized her chest.
‘ you’re serious, beth? i thought you said it was impossible. ’ ‘ i thought it was! ’ ‘ don’t cry. it’s okay. don’t cry —- does kirios know? ’ ‘ no. what am i going to tell him? oh, by the way, i’m carrying ———————————— your monster children. ’
two weeks ago, she’d been sick. not the kind of sick she’d ever felt before. it wasviolent, and drew on her strength so badly that she’d stayed in bed for two daysbefore vision had paid her a visit ( and it was purely coincidental that he’d beenthere, because she hadn’t expected him at all ). she had always found him quiteinteresting; like how he seemed to care for them so much.
‘ ᴅᴏᴄᴛᴏʀ ʙᴀɴɴᴇʀ, ᴅɪᴅ ʏᴏᴜ ᴋɴᴏᴡ ᴛʜᴀᴛ ʏᴏᴜ ᴀʀᴇ ᴡɪᴛʜ ᴄʜɪʟᴅ? ’

even two weeks later, tony and vision were the only souls who knew of her littlesecret ( and she knew, she knew, that kirios had a right to be brought in on it,but she couldn’t find the bravery to tell him, because she was afraid of what he’ddo once he found out ). beth had lived every day hearing her father tell her howhe’d never wanted her. telling her that she was born a freak ( A MONSTER ), whatwould she do if history repeated? where could she run?
leaning over the sink, she sobbed into the palm of her hand. this can’t be real –this isn’t happening. kirios must’ve noticed her absence, and come looking. hisvoice was suddenly outside the door ( was the bathroom shrinking? when did itfeel like such a small space to be in? ). ‘ i’ll be out in a minute ’ she said tohim, but he must’ve heard the quivering in her voice. he must’ve heard distress, and it was K I L L I N G her to lie to him.
she loved him. he deserved to know. she wanted to keep them ( them. twins. more than one. a pair. inseparable —— if they made it ). backing herself into a corner, beth pressed her back against the wall and slid down until she had curled into a neat, little ball ( knees drawn up to chest, face hidden ). the door wasn’t locked, and she heard kirios enter. softly, her petite frame shook and shuddered as she fought to keep her crying silent, but the cooler hands of her – what was he?
- boyfriend?- lover?- MATE?
on her arms crumbled the last of the weak pillars of her emotions, and it all came out at once. beth had half a mind to shove kirios away, and run, but he was the only one who could get her through this—- and she knew that. if she pushed him away, now, she’d never last. but what if he tries to leave? asked in fear, by scared, little beth. ɪ'ʟʟ ᴄʀᴜsʜ ʜɪᴍ. was the growled response, given by her frequent companion – her protector.
‘ i’m not leaving until you tell me what’s going on. ’
