Screet is Rebooting: Join Us in the New Space!

Hello everyone, Tiara from Screet here. Thank you so much for your interest in Screet! It was a rock & roll week and we appreciate your enthusiasm. The original crew of Screet is dissolving, but I want to bring the project forward. I'm currently working on a reboot of Screet that will be more feminist, women-centric, queer-centric, and sex-positive (not that Original Screet wasn't already, but this will be even more so). To respect the wishes of some of my team, I will be starting over with a new name and set of resources. Menstruation is a natural part of life, but it has long been and continues to be stigmatized. Three women have come up with a way to change all that. Twin sisters Radha and Miki Agrawal and friend Antonia Dunbar innovated THINX underwear, which completely eliminates the need for tampons or pads and could also help in need in the developing world.

Can you use coconut oil for lube?

Someone asked us:

I’ve heard friends say that coconut oil is a great lubricant. I tried it and I really like it, but I’m worried it’s not safe. Can coconut oil cause yeast or bacterial infections?

Coconut oil is super popular for all kinds of health and cosmetic uses. There’s not really any research out there on this, but we haven’t seen any evidence suggesting that it would cause an infection (though allergies or irritation is possible when you put any kind of product on sensitive skin). If you try it, make sure there aren’t things added to the oil you get. Sugars and other additives could potentially cause yeast or other vaginal infections.

However, if you’re using condoms to protect yourself from STDs or pregnancy, you should definitely NOT use an oil-based lube like coconut oil. Oil-based lubes can damage the material condoms are made from and lead to breakage. It’s much safer to use water or silicone-based lubes with condoms.

If you’re using it for masturbation with a sex toy of some kind, it’s a good idea to check and see if it’s safe to use with the material the sex toy is made out of. Oil-based lube and silicone toys don’t mix.

At the end of the day, your best bet is to talk with a doctor or nurse about using coconut oil as lube.

Scalingo is helping Screet do more with meteor.js

Javascript frameworks are sprouting up all the time. While Angular is emerging as the leader for client side frameworks, Meteor is quietly gaining marketshare as a powerful and versatile end to end framework for Node. 

Currently one of the big problems with Meteor is hosting solutions. Platforms like Modulus are great but they’re really meant Node app. Then along came Scalingo! Scalingo is a heroku like tool that makes deploying Meteor apps to production a snap! 

Over the last few hours Scalingo has been instrumental in letting us quickly iterate and get our app live.

Hi everyone!

We are Screet, an upcoming app that helps deliver sexual health and pleasure products on demand to you discreetly, 24 hours a day. Whether it’s the basics, such as condoms, lube, dental dams, and gloves - or you’re in need of something more serious like Plan B and PREP. 

Maybe you’ve suddenly found someone to bring home tonight, but realize too late that you’re out of condoms. Maybe you’re running low on lube and it’s too late to go out to get some. Maybe you’d rather not have to go to the local Walgreens to publicly get gloves, or dental dams are extra hard to find where you are.

We especially want to support women, gender minorities, and the LGBTQI community, and want to pair up with organizations that work with sexual health, sex education, and sex-positivity. 

We were created as part of the 2015 Startup Bus, a road-trip meets hackathon where buses from across North America carry teams of brand-new startups for 3 days to be presented at Nashville, Tennessee.
