Jake Lockley x Fem!Reader (with slight mentions of Marc and Steven x reader)
Summary: Jake gets hurt while making dinner, and even though Jake seems wary of your loving care, you still want to help him.
Word count: 3.2K
Warnings: Accidental injury, vague mention of past cannon violence, kinda hurt/comfort, a bit angsty, fluffy fluff, touch-starved Jake if you squint, soft Jake, and a teensy bit of innuendo.
a/n: A final part to the Magic Kisses Trilogy. This comes after Magic Kisses and Lucky To Be Yours, but it could definitely be read as a stand-alone. I did the best that I could with not knowing a ton about Jake, so I hope it’s accurate. Enjoy!
A few Spanish curses and the slamming of pots and pans rang out from the kitchen. You sighed and closed your book, your eyes following closely behind as you leaned your head against the back of the couch. No reading could be done with the racket Jake was making in the kitchen. Not that you were able to focus, regardless of whether he was making so much noise or not. The only thing your mind had been able to think about since you got home from work was the loud man in the kitchen himself.
Jake Lockley was... unexpected, to say the least. To both you and the boys.
One moment, you're singing in the car with Steven to your favorite song, him stopping every once in a while to tell you about Marc's playful jabs at your enthusiasm. The next, a truck is about to crash straight into the passenger side, your side, of the car. But miraculously, it never happened. Instead, Steven somehow sped up and drifted to the side, the truck barely scraping the tail end of the car you two were in.
After taking a breath and collecting yourself, you turned to Steven, wide eyes filled with tears, fear, and amazement. You had no idea Steven knew how to drive like that. But when you looked into his eyes, you knew right away that it wasn't Steven. And to your surprise, it wasn't Marc either. It was someone completely different.
Someone who, once they caught your eye and their breath leaned over and patted you down, checking your body for any signs of harm with a breathy, "Anything hurt, princessa?"
After that, there was no way for Jake to go back into hiding.
Marc, Steven, and Jake had several extensive conversations together over the course of several weeks, along with several that included you. In the end, the three of you decided to continue life and your relationship like normal, just now with Jake included. How could that not have been your decision? You loved them, and although you didn't know Jake all that well, you wanted to know him. You wanted to get to know the man who had saved and protected you. Who you, Steven, and Marc realized has been protecting and taking care of them his entire existence.
It's been about six months since then. You and Jake have gotten closer since you first met. You've been on a few dates, and when he fronts, which isn't as often as you'd like, you do your best to get to know each other.
You'd found out about his love for cars, how much he loves dark chocolate, and that he'd always wanted a pet cat. You were currently trying to warm Marc up to the last idea, but he was full-heartedly against “A nasty furball parading around the house”. However, with Steven's help, you were sure you would be able to break him soon enough.
You had grown to love Jake just as much as Marc and Steven. He was kind and sweet as well as fiercely protective. He always had a witty Spanish quip to add to your conversations and he opened all doors for you whether you liked it or not. Also, more often than not, you’d find gifts from him hidden around the house for you with cute little notes attached to them. He treated you like a princess. Because that's what you were to him. His princessa.
But even though he was so amazing, it always felt like something was missing. You loved talking to him, going on nice dates, and getting to know him. However, even when doing those things, something felt off. Jake was amazing at taking care of you, but when you tried to reciprocate, he seemed… wary of it. When you tied to hug him, hold his hand, or even just softly touch him, he’d flinch away from you with a look of longing and regret that he tried to hide with a cocky smirk.
You weren't sure why he acted that way, but eventually, you came to the conclusion, with the help of Marc and Steven, that he wasn't used to the touch of a kind hand. Being the body's protector, he hadn’t had the privilege of feeling much kindness and softness. Which would be why he acted the way he did when you tried to love on him. You wanted to change that. You wanted to show him that he was safe with you. You wanted to give him all of the soft, sweet love that he had missed.
Jake cursed again, but louder than before, snapping you out of your thoughts. The loud string of curses was followed by the slam of something metal against the inside of the sink.
You hopped up from your seat on the couch and called his name softly as you walked quickly to the kitchen, ignoring his protests as he heard you approaching. "Everything's fine, amor," he said, his back turned to you as you entered, "Go sit back down."
"What happened?" You asked, scanning the kitchen from one end to the other, attempting to see what had gone wrong. Everything seemed to be in place, except for Jake who stood with his back to you. “Are you alright?”
He turned around now, a dish towel wrapped around his hand tightly. He was hurt. You wanted to rush forward and take his hands into yours. Beg him to let you take care of him. But you didn't. You stayed where you stood and waited for him to answer your question.
"It's just a little cut," he shrugged. "No big deal." Even though his words and countenance were nonchalant, you knew him enough that you could see the discomfort in his eyes and the tightness of his jaw.
Cautiously, you walked toward him, stopping close enough to touch him, but far enough to give him some space. “Can I see?” you asked, holding your hand out toward him. It took a moment, but he raised an eyebrow and slowly lowered his hand into yours.
Gently, with a feather-light touch, you held his hand and unwrapped the towel to look at his wound. Luckily it wasn't deep enough to need stitches, but it was deep enough that it would need to be cleaned and wrapped. Something you learned to do well on account of your boys being, well, who they were.
“Está bien, querida,” he said, hiding the way your warm hand and gaze made him feel with a cocky smirk. “I told you everything was fine. You can go back to relaxing now-”.
“Jake, babe, please,” you practically begged, looking up at him through your eyelashes, “Just this once, please, let me help you.” You weren’t going to let him push you away again. You weren't going to him go so easily.
Jake was surprised, to say the least. His eyebrows rose again as he stood there staring down at you in shock and awe. Any other time he’d tried to put the wall back up between you, you accepted it, often walking away with a disappointed face that broke Jake inside. But this. This was different. This time, you were asking, begging him to let you take care of him. How was he supposed to say no to your determined face and soft voice?
He nodded slowly, muttering a soft, “Alright, princessa.”
Pleased Jake was finally letting you in, even just a little, you gently led Jake over to your kitchen table and sat him in a chair, promising you’d be back in a moment.
When you came back, Jake watched as you set everything out that you’d need. Then you pulled up a chair and sat in front of him, scooting forward and notching a leg between his so you could reach his hand at a more comfortable distance.
“Alright,” you warned, readying to clean his wound, “This is going to sting quite a bit.” He masked the adoration he was feeling for you with a teasing scoff. “Don't worry, mi princessa, I’m not a bebé like those other two,” he joked sending you a wink, nearly forgetting how to breathe when he felt your knee brush against his thigh. You laughed under your breath before looking up at him to say, “You’re right. You’re not a baby.”
Jake’s chest puffed with pride for a moment but deflated when you added, “But it's okay for you to show that you’re in pain in front of me. I won't ever judge you. Though I may tease if the moment calls for it.” His wall was melting fast. Even faster when you told him that he could hold onto you if it stung too much.
The moment you began cleaning his cut, Jake hissed under his breath and cursed at himself mentally when he saw that you had heard him. What was he doing? He had been punched, stabbed, shot, and worse off many times in his life. Disinfectant on a minor cut should be nothing. But with you holding his hand, cooing soft, comforting words so close to him, his wall was crumbling fast.
As you dabbed at his wound again, his hand shot out involuntarily and he grabbed onto your leg, not enough to hurt you by any means, but tight enough that you could feel the squeeze of his fingers against your thigh. You smiled and continued your work, refusing to get distracted by the action. You still had his cut to take care of.
Once you had finished cleaning his cut, you leaned your face down and blew on it to try to ease the stinging. It seemed like it was working since the grip on your leg loosened, and the tightness of his jaw softened as he sighed deeply.
Jake said nothing as you spread the ointment and then began wrapping his hand. He wanted to say something, he really did. He wanted to thank you for your kindness. Tell you how much he cared about you. Even more, he wanted to show you how much he loved you. He wanted to hold your hands that were holding his. He wanted to caress your face. See if your lips were really as soft as they looked. It was all he could do not to pull you forward into his lap and kiss you senseless. You were the first person to care about him, really care about him. He wanted to tell you, show you, how much that meant to him.
But there was still something inside that told him he didn't deserve it. That your caring would soon pass and you’d leave him because that's what he truly deserved.
Just as that thought passed through his mind, you finished wrapping his hand. Then, without a word, you lifted his hand to your face and gingerly kissed his palm over the bandage.
Jake was stunned into complete silence. He nearly forgot how to breathe. What was that? Why had you done that? His head was swimming with questions that demanded to be answered.
So in a quiet voice, he asked, “Mi cielo, what was that for?”
You set his hand on the table and looked up and into his eyes with a smile, playing with his fingers as you explained. “That was a magic kiss. I give them to Marc and Steven when they get hurt. They make the pain go away. Or, at least that's what I’ve been told.”
“Why would you give one to me?”
When you shake your head and laugh under your breath, Jake feels his body fill with apprehension. That's it. Just what he’s been waiting for. He knows you're going to say it's a joke. You’re going to take it back. You’re going to tell him that the sweet touches and caring hands weren't real all along and that you never truly cared about him.
So when you told him, “Because I take care of my boys. And you, Jake, whether you believe it or not, are one of my boys.” He didn’t know what to do or what to think. All he could do was look at you and hope you were telling the truth.
When he didn't say anything you continued. “I love you, Jake. Just as much as I love Marc and Steven. And I’ll take care of you every day if you’ll let me.”
Jake’s walls crumbled to the ground the moment you told him you loved him.
Jake knew how to read people. It was something he prided himself on, especially in his line of work. He could tell when someone was telling even the slightest of lies. But you, you weren’t lying at all. There was no hesitation or trace of anything untruthful in your countenance or eyes. And that meant you loved him. You honestly, and truly loved him.
There was not a piece of him left that he could hide, not a part of him that could be apart from you in any way any longer. Every yearning to love and be loved was coming forward and you could finally see it in his eyes. The voice in his head that told him that he wasn't good enough, that he didn’t deserve to be taken care of, that his only purpose in his life was to protect their body and by default, the one they loved was silent in your presence. All he could hear was your sweet voice telling him that you loved him and that he deserved to be loved and cared for.
You watched as Jake sighed heavily through his nose, a grin creeping onto his face as he traced shapes into the fabric of your jeans. “Sí, I’d like that.”
Finally, he allowed himself to touch you in the ways he’d wanted to for the last few minutes while you’d been so very close to him. Or, if he was being completely honest, the way he’d wanted to for the last six months of knowing you.
He lifted his hand from your leg and caressed your cheek, eyes hooded with affection. He smiled, letting his thumb trace over the apple of your cheek before lowering his hand to caress your jaw. You had to fight the urge to close your eyes as his thumb traced your lips.
He was right. Your lips were as soft as they looked.
Without much thought, Jake grew closer. So close your eyes fluttered as his breath fanned across your face. Jake had never been this affectionate with you before. It was dizzying.
So when he asked if he could kiss you, you had no other choice than to let out a breathy, “Of course.”
The kiss was long and passionate and new. Like nothing, you’d ever experienced with Marc or Steven. One of his hands caressed the place between your jaw and neck, while the other, pulled you closer by your lower back. It was a kiss that made up for all the lost time between the two of you and told you everything that remained unsaid. A kiss that left you wanting more. It made the thought of forgoing air to breathe seem like a good idea.
But unfortunately, the human body did need air to survive.
“Cielo,” he mumbled against your lips as you pulled away. “Yo también te amo. I will never stop loving you.”
Your heart soared with the confession of love from the man you had grown to love so dearly. Giggling, you leaned forward and kissed his perfect lips again. His kisses were addicting. Once you got a taste, you had to have more.
Jake rubbed circles into your back as you did so, reminding you of the reason you were so close in the first place.
“How's your hand?” you asked, pulling away with a smile. He lifted an eyebrow, muttering a small, ”Qué?” “Your hand? Did the magic kiss work?” You were teasing a little bit now. Jake seemed unamused, scoffing as he removed his hand from your back, but you could see the mischievous glint in his eyes.
“I just kissed you, and you're asking about my hand?” he asked incredulously. But then he leaned in again, capturing your lips in another kiss that was sweeter and more breathtaking than the last. “What am I going to do with you, cariño? Hm?”
Distracted by his handsome face, sweet words, and even sweeter kiss, you couldn’t help but mumble, “I can think of a few things.” He laughed at that, pulling back to gaze at your hooded eyes and oh-so-tempting lips.
“Hm, like what?”
At the sound of his voice and laughter, you snapped out of your love-filled daze and blushed deep pink, embarrassed for letting your inner thoughts explore and come out into the light.
“Like, letting me help you finish making dinner,” you tried to save, but you knew you were unsuccessful when you looked into Jake’s knowing eyes. “Obviously.”
“Sí,sí, obviously,” Jake repeated, eyes full of mirth and a cocky grin on his perfect lips.
You rolled your eyes and stood, holding your hand out for him to take. Jake was still getting used to this whole opening-up thing, so it took a minute for him to take your hand. But when he did, you couldn’t help but grin from ear to ear.
“Well, you can’t cut anything with your hand like that, so I’ll finish the cutting and you can-” you tried to let go of his hand to walk away, but he held you firmly back, a serious look on his face. You raised an eyebrow and tried to ask him what was wrong, but your breath got caught in your throat as he lifted your hand to his lips and placed a chaste kiss on your knuckles.
“Thank you for taking care of me.”
Another kiss.
“For loving me.”
A kiss to your wrist.
“And for your magic kisses. They… You helped me more than you know.”
Your heart soared as a soft smile took over your features. “Anything for you, Jake.”
“I love you.”
Jake grinned, looking at you like you had hung the stars in the sky, and placed one more kiss on your wrist before letting your hand drop softly to your side. “I love you more.”
Then with a playful smile, he continued. “Now, let's get back to finishing dinner. Then maybe after we eat we can explore some of those other ideas you had, hm?” You rolled your eyes and bushed at his insinuation, but grinned nonetheless.
“Yeah, let's get back to making dinner. But please be more careful this time, okay? I don’t want you getting hurt again.”
“Of course. Anything for mi princessa. Though..."
"Though what?"
Jake grinned, leaning down, lips so close they were nearly touching yours, your breaths mingling as you breathed heavily.
"I don't think I'd mind getting another magic kiss of yours. Actually, I think I'd like another right now."
And once again, for the fourth and definitely not the last time, Jake pressed his lips to yours in a head-dizzying kiss that you'd never forget.
You woke with a smile to the sound of rain gently tapping against your window and its fresh scent wafting through your house.
This was your favorite type of weather. When it was dark and grey outside. Rain hit the window of your flat, but not so hard that it was disarming. Not to mention the smell of wet pavement that seemed to permeate through all the nooks and crannies in your house right into your bedroom.
Due to the weather, the lighting was dim in your room. It was light enough to see Steven who lay beside you, but dim enough that you didn't need to squint at the light you woke to.
Although you had woken to the sound of the rain, Steven seemed to be completely unfazed. Instead, he stayed still, right where he was with you facing him, legs tangled together and his arm wrapped tight around your waist, face parallel to yours.
You smiled softly as you studied his sleeping form. His hair was messy, curls falling every which way over his pillow. He was so relaxed in sleep and it made you so happy to see. His face was free of all worry, of any emotion really other than pure bliss. You were glad to see him so relaxed, especially since he'd had such a rough time at work recently. Donna was really working him to the bone without a bit of patience or kindness in her blood.
That's one of the other reasons you woke up with a smile. Today was not only your day off but Steven's. That meant you two could spend the whole day together doing whatever you both wanted without having to worry about work or Donna or anything. You two could just be. Just the way you liked it.
Steven's soft snoring snapped you out of your thoughts. You huffed a laugh through your nose, hoping it wouldn't wake him, and luckily you didn't. He was still fast asleep, only stirring for a moment to drag you just a tad closer by the waist. You had to huff out another laugh as several more soft snores snuck out of his open mouth.
Without thinking about it, you lifted a hand to his cheek and gently ran your fingers down it, starting from his cheekbone to the base of his jaw. He was so handsome. The most beautiful man you'd ever laid your eyes on, honestly. You were able to repeat the action a second time before he stirred a little, groaning in his sleep and lifting his hand from your waist to run it down the side of his face where you had touched him.
You froze after ripping your hand away from his face, heart beating quickly in your chest as you hoped he hadn't woken up due to your adoring him. Luckily, again, he dropped his hand to his side and resumed his deep sleep. You sighed in relief. Steven could always use the extra sleep and you really didn't want to deprive him of it.
But now that Steven wasn't holding you, your body felt much colder. His body was like a human heater, always warm and toasty compared to your cold-fingered one. Not being able to help yourself, you scooted closer to him, trying to soak up his warmth as you cuddled against his side under the cozy comforter you shared.
But as you moved, you began to realize just how badly you needed to use the restroom. The slight jostling of your bladder as you scooted toward Steven's warmth notified you of just how full it was. And unfortunately for you, there was no way you were going to be able to hold it. You had to get up.
Slowly, almost painfully for you, you eased yourself out of bed, careful once again not to wake your love who was still fast asleep, oblivious to your inner turmoil while he snored softly.
Once you were out of bed, you briskly walked to the bathroom, nearly shivering at how cold the temperature in your house was. The floor made your toes freeze and the icy air chilled your lungs. Even goosebumps were raising on your arms, it was so cold. You'd have to grab a sweater or something on your way back to Steven.
Once you got to the bathroom, you quickly did your business and after washing your hands with freezing cold water that made your fingers numb, you made your way back to the adorable warmth known as Steven Grant.
However, as you walked back to get into bed with him, an idea popped into your head. Yeah, it would be warm back in bed with him, but what if he wanted to get up? You'd still be cold. You didn't think that even adding a sweater to your attire would be helpful in aiding you against the cold weather you loved so much.
So, to warm yourself up, and Steven if he wanted some, you decided to make tea.
You continued on your path to your shared room, sneaking in to grab a discarded sweater of Steven's near the foot of your bed from the day before, and slipped it over your head. Hopefully, that would help.
Then, with one last glance at your lovely Steven, you snuck your way out to the kitchen, cracking the door so the whistling of the pot wouldn't wake him.
Once you arrived in the kitchen, you got out everything you needed. The kettle, two chamomile tea bags, and two mugs. One of them being Steven's favorite. It was average-sized and decorated to look like there were ancient hieroglyphs carved into the outside. Steven had told you they didn't mean anything put together, chuckling at the "silly chaps who should've done their research." Regardless, he was very happy and told you that it was a lovely present. He uses it every day now, calling it his "improper" mug. The silly nickname makes you smile every time.
After putting water in the kettle, you stood back and waited for it to boil. You knew it wouldn't take long, it never did. Besides, you didn't feel the need to have it as quickly as before. The sweater was helping more than you thought. Not only was it making you warm, but it smelled like Steven. Like clean laundry, old books, and a hint of lavender, plus something that was just too... Steven to place. It was your favorite and made you feel all warm and fuzzy inside as you took a deep breath in.
As you waited for the tea to boil, though you hadn't known it, someone was starting to wake up in your bedroom.
Steven rolled over, reaching for you with a smile to pull you into his chest when he realized you weren't in his arms already. But when his hands grasped at the empty air, he grew confused.
"Love?" He mumbled in a sleepy way, cracking one eye open to look at the empty side of your bed. He frowned when he realized you weren't in the room after not answering him when he called out to you. Where could you have gone? The bathroom maybe? You couldn't have gone to work. If you had, you would've kissed Steven goodbye, and even in sleep, Steven knew he would never forget something as sweet as that.
So, after running a hand down his face, he slowly got out of bed and sleepily padded toward the door of his room. He walked to the bathroom, using it when he figured you weren't in there. Then when he was done he silently walked around your flat, searching every corner for you. Which was a bit hard since he was still really sleepy. Even when he tried to rub it out of his eyes, there was still a sleepy haze over everything.
But Steven was on a mission and he wasn't the kind of man to give up on something so easily.
So when he saw you standing in front of the stove, softly swaying side to side, relief flooded through him.
There you were. Clad in long, fluffy pajama pants, your night shirt peaking out from beneath a jumper. His, he noticed with a sleepy grin. You were wearing his jumper.
Moments later, much to your surprise, two arms wrapped themselves around your middle and pulled you into the broad chest they were connected to. You grinned as Steven moved your hair aside and nuzzled his nose against your neck, holding his hands that were splayed over your stomach.
"Morning honey," you giggled as he unintentionally tickled your neck with his nose. He paused for a moment, pressing a kiss just below your ear, his unruly curls tickling your cheek. "Mornin' love," he softly mumbled back.
You wanted to ask why he had gotten up or apologize for waking him, but he was mumbling some more before you could even open your mouth.
"Missed you when I woke up," he said, swaying a little as he held you. "Why're you out of bed so early? It's the weekend, innit?" You giggled at his slightly whiny tone, turning around in his arms to hug him properly.
"It's cold in here, so I was making us some tea," you told him, wrapping your arms around his middle. You looked up at his face, giggling again when you saw his half-lidded sleepy gaze and smile. "I'm sorry if I woke you."
His brows furrowed slightly and he shook his head. " 'S not your fault. Just missed you is all." He leaned down to press a kiss to your forehead and then your nose, making you laugh under your breath. He was just too cute. You could barely stand it.
Before you could say anything else, he pulled away, a small teasing smile on his lips. "Is that my jumper you're wearing?" You blushed under his gaze, suddenly feeling a little embarrassed for wearing his sweater.
Nodding, you hid your face in his chest and answered. "Yes... I was cold and I like the way it smells," you admitted, your ears and neck heating up along with your cheeks. You could feel the rumble of his soft laugh against your forehead as it was pressed against the soft fabric of his shirt.
"Glad you like it, love," he said, reaching a hand up to pet your hair and tilt your head back to look at him. "Looks better on you anyways."
You shook your head and told him you disagreed but thanked him for the compliment regardless. In the background, you could hear the water just starting to boil. It wouldn't be long til it was hot enough for tea.
You went to move away from Steven to ready the cups, but he held you tight to him and wouldn't let you go. Before you could ask what he was doing, he said, "Just a moment longer lovey. I just want to hold you."
Who were you to argue?
You stepped further into his embrace with a soft, "okay," and wrapped your arms around his neck to deepen the hug. Steven swayed slowly from side to side, almost as if you were dancing, but neither of your feet lifted off the ground.
When he started pressing oh-so-gentle kisses against any surface of your skin that he could reach, you laughed breathily, dizzy from the affection. "What's gotten into you this morning?" you asked, pulling back just a little to look at him again. You twirled a strand of his messy curls at the back of his neck around your finger as you waited for an answer.
"Nothing..." he said, looking at you now with nothing but affection for you in his eyes, "I just love you lots. That's all."
Your heart was so full from his words that you couldn't form your own, so something physical would have to do for now.
Gently tilting his head down to yours with the hand that rested at his neck, you lifted your face to press your lips to his. You could feel his smile against your lips as he sighed through his nose, the warm air hitting your still-flushed cheeks.
You kissed him once. Then twice. Three times. And it would've been four if not for the loud whistle of the kettle behind you.
"Steven, the tea," you mumbled against his lips as he chased yours. He grumbled at your words and instead of letting you go, he moved with you to turn the heat off.
"Tea can wait," he said, pulling you against his chest once more. "Could we go cuddle in bed a little longer instead? Please?" You smiled.
For the second time this morning, who were you to disagree with him?
"Yeah, sweetie," you nodded with a breathy laugh, kissing his chest where your face rested, "I'd like that a lot."
Steven pulled away to take your hand. And then with a grin and, "Well come on then love," he led you back to your room where you knew you'd be warm and cozy by his side.
Turns out you didn't need tea to feel warm. You had Steven, who with just one look or declaration of love, made you feel all warm and fuzzy from your head to your toes.
You supposed as Steven opened his arms for you after laying back in bed, that was all you needed.

Steven was on you the moment you closed the door to your flat after coming home from work.
"Your home," he sighed happily, the wide grin on his lips and wide eyes reminding you of a puppy as he padded toward you from the kitchen. "I'm so glad your home. I missed you."
You giggled lightly as he wrapped his arms around your middle, burying his face into your neck and sighing contently. "I missed you too."
Now, there was no favoritism between you and your boys. You loved both of them equally. But you loved when Steven greeted you when you came home from work. The way he reacted when you got home, all happy and excited, and the way he hugged and kissed you and wrapped you all up in himself like if you’d been apart any longer he'd fall to pieces just made you melt.
He kissed you now, peppering kisses all over your neck, then your face, before settling on your lips. The kiss, as short and sweet as it was, left you breathless and dizzy. And as you were dizzy with affection for the man, you nearly missed the question he was asking you.
"How was work, love? Tom's not giving you any trouble still, is he?"
You chuckled at the mention of your coworker. You'd only told Steven of one instance when Tom had messed up the printer and you had to fix it. But the fact that Steven cared enough to remember your frustration from earlier that week made his question all the more sweet.
"Work was good, honey. No Tom problems," you affirmed, giggling as his face lit up at your confirmation, "How was your day?” "Good, good," he grinned down at you, kissing your forehead before pulling away. Though, you weren't completely disconnected. Steven was holding your hand now, rubbing his thumb in distracting circles on the back of it.
"I made some cookies earlier. Marc thought we should try a new recipe, so I'm not sure how they taste," he admitted, scratching his chin with his index finger, "But I just pulled 'em out of the oven and they're ready for tasting if you want."
You smiled and agreed immediately. Steven was a fantastic baker. Marc... not so much, but he tried. That's probably why he got Steven to make the recipe instead of making them himself.
Once you got into the kitchen, Steven let go of your hand to grab two cookies off the rack, before coming back and handing one to you.
"Okay, on three," you said, grinning as Steven chuckled at your tasting tradition. It was a rule, one you made and enforced. Anything new must be tasted at the exact same time for the optimum tasting experience. Or, in other words, you had to taste things at the same time or someone might chicken out. Like the time you two went out with your friend Jack for sushi, and Marc wouldn't try wasabi all because you ate too much and had a painful reaction.
Alright, you couldn't really blame him for that one. That was on you.
Anyway, you both took a bite and immediately melted into a delicious puddle. It was just as amazing as always, if not better. You nearly inhaled the rest of it, moaning in delight as it hit your taste buds.
"Steven, these are amazing!" You praised him, grinning when he grew shy, "Seriously. So so good." You took another off the cooling rack to prove your point, eating it in only two bites. "Well, I'm glad you like them so much," he shyly said, but the glowing smile on his face was infectious.
You looked down at the cookies beside you, wanting another, but you knew that you should probably save some for later. Oh, and for Marc. You should definitely save some for him. He'll love them.
"I do, thank you, Steven."
"Anything for you, lovey."
You walked back over to Steven, kissing his cheek before turning to leave the kitchen.
"I'm gonna go change real quick, okay? Then when I get back we can start movie night. It's your night to pick, remember?" you told him, blowing Steven a kiss before making your way toward your bedroom. The last you saw of him was a flustered, lovesick smile and pink-tinted cheeks.
You walked into your shared room, quickly undressing and tossing your clothes into the hamper in the corner, laughing when you barely made it in. You decided against your own comfortable clothes, instead opting for something of the boy's. Some baggy sweats and an even baggier shirt would do.
Just as you slipped into one of their baggy shirts, two soft, but solid arms slid around your middle, wrapping themselves around your form and pulling you against their chest. You knew exactly who it was the moment he touched you, but you especially knew it was Marc when he nuzzled his face into your neck from behind and said, "Welcome home, sweetheart."
You giggled as his breath tickled your neck, but managed to let out a soft, "Missed you, Marc," in between it all.
You could feel his smirk against your skin as his hands gently pulled up your shirt so he could splay his hands across your stomach. "Missed you too," he mumbled, kissing the side of your neck softly, "Missed you lots." He traced shapes softly against your stomach, almost tickling you again as his hands began to wander toward your sides.
Unfortunately, you were so caught up in his loving embrace, that you realized too late that you were being led into a trap.
"Marc-" you tried to warn but were cut off by your own laughter as his fingers dug mercilessly into your ribs. A tickle trap. The hug was just a rouse to mess with you. You should have known.
You laughed nonstop, begging him to stop as he attacked your sides, but all that really came out was laughter.
"Mar- hahaha! Please Marc- I- I- can't-"
"What was that sweetheart? I can't understand you."
The way he muttered the word "sweetheart" so sickly sweet in your ear would have flustered you if you weren't being tickled to death. You weren't sure if you wanted to kiss or hit him for it.
You tried to wriggle out of his arms as he continued to tickle you, leading you over to the bed.
Finally, you managed to turn around, facing him as he tortured you, a very large, very evil grin on his perfect lips. You weakly beat at his chest, trying to force his hands away from your sides, but nothing seemed to work. Marc was relentless.
"Please M- Marc," you nearly begged now, pushing harder against him and almost succeeding in your fight to break free. "Let me g- go! Hahaha! I'm gon- gonna peeeeeeee! Please-"
You pushed hard against him one more time.
Just as you pushed against him, Marc listened to you and let you go, stopping his torture on your ribs. Unfortunately for you, that meant that all of the force you used to push yourself away from Marc made you fall backward. Hard.
You fell backward out of Marc's arms and right into your bedpost, hitting your hip bone directly into its wooden surface.
You winced and hissed in pain as you fell to the floor, holding your hip as pain flared through it. Marc cursed and immediately knelt to your level, asking if you were hurt and what he could do to help you.
"I'm so sorry, baby. I didn't mean for you to get hurt," he apologized repeatedly, extremely worried that he had hurt you badly. "I'm fine," you wheezed, looking up at him to confirm that you weren't badly hurt. "Nothing broken. Just maybe a little bruised. And it's my fault, so don't worry about it."
"Can I do anything?" He asked, his hands searching for a place to hold you. "Where does it hurt?"
" 'S just my hip, babe. I'll be fine. Could you get me an icepack, please?" you asked and he immediately got up to get one. Not without kissing your forehead and apologizing once more, telling you that he'd be back in a few seconds.
He was back literally seconds later with a mesh icepack in hand, a towel wrapped around it to make the cold bearable. Then he helped you to stand, though you insisted you didn't need it. It was just a bruise after all. Though, you'd never refuse help from Marc, even when his help wasn’t necessary.
Marc sat on the side of your bed, gently pulling you with him so you stood in between his legs. He pressed the icepack to where you directed him, holding your hand when you hissed through your teeth as it touched you. It was a lot colder than you had anticipated, but it definitely helped to numb the pain a little.
"I really am sorry," Marc apologized again, "I was trying to play around. I didn't think you'd get-"
"Marc," you interrupted him, "Babe, it was an accident. And I'm perfectly fine. Don't worry so much, okay?" You kissed the back of his hand that held yours and smiled, mumbling a thank you for the ice pack he got you. "Alright," he mumbled, lifting your joined hands to kiss yours as you had just done to his.
Moments later, Marc took the ice pack away, setting it down on the bed and letting go of your hand. "Okay, let's see what the damage is," he sighed, lifting his your shirt just enough to see the area that was causing you pain. You looked down too, curious to see if you had a bruise or not.
You did. Very much so.
It had only been a few minutes since you fell, but in that short time, you had definitely gained a large, deep purple-ish, yellow-ish bruise.
Marc sucked his lips against his teeth and cursed lightly under his breath. "That's pretty bad," you observed. "We should probably put the icepack back on it- Hey!"
You jerked your body away from Marc and he ever so lightly ran his thumb over your bruise as he held your hip. "That hurts!"
Marc immediately felt bad, but couldn't help but smirk at your exclamation that suddenly reminded him so much of a similar situation from the week before.
"Oh hush, you big baby," he called, a slight teasing to his voice You raised an eyebrow at that, the phrase sounding familiar, but you couldn't put your finger on it-
Oh what a copycat.
"Marc Spector, you did not just-"
"Just come here, sweetheart," he interrupted you, reaching out to grab your hand, tugging you gently back to him. You rolled your eyes, but couldn't help smiling at his teasing.
"I really am sorry," he genuinely apologized, though the mischievousness from earlier was still twinkling in his eyes. "I didn't know it hurt that badly. I was just trying to check it out." You laughed and shook your head at him. "Well it really hurt and it still really hurts."
You were teasing him, and he could tell, but there was truth in your eyes. It really did hurt still. Not too bad, just an ache in your side that came and waned as it pleased.
He hoped it didn't hurt as bad as his cut had, as small as it was. Too bad there wasn't much you could do for a bruise. What had you done for Marc's cut that he could possibly do for your bruise?
That was when Marc got an idea.
"Did Steven or I ever tell you about our secret superpower?"
At that, you quirked an eyebrow and tilted your head at him. You knew about Marc and Steven being midnight vigilantes, about Khonshu, about all of it. Was there something he hadn't told you yet? Or was he referring to their healing suit? Was he going to try to use it on you somehow? You didn’t think that that was how it worked.
Marc must have seen your confusion because he answered all of your questions before they could leave your mouth.
"We have magic kisses," he said with a smile. You sighed with relief, but also laughed at yourself for taking him so seriously. "Magic healing kisses that will make you feel better in no time," he continued with a loving yet playful smile.
You mirrored his smile and shuffled a little closer to him. "Just be gentle, please. It hurts a lot."
"I'm always gentle with you, baby. You know that," Marc said, raising an eyebrow playfully as you rolled your eyes, the double meaning of his statement not being lost on you.
Without waiting a minute longer, Marc, as gently as he promised, lifted your shirt with one hand just enough to expose the bruise on your hip. Before leaning in to give you a magic kiss, he looked up at you and smiled the most loving, butterfly-giving, heart-clenching, softest smile that made you want to melt into a puddle on the spot. He was so adorable, you could hardly handle it.
He leaned in after that, his breath fanning your skin for just a moment before his lips gently grazed your bruise. And somehow, this time, it didn't hurt. He pulled back again, taking another breath before leaning back in and placing a somehow even lighter kiss over your bruise.
Your cheeks were pink as you grew flustered at the extra affection you didn't expect. "Why did you kiss it twice?" You asked as he dropped your shirt so it hung down on your thighs again before looking up at you.
When your eyes met, you immediately knew it was Steven. Grinning impossibly wide, he lovingly looked into your eyes and stated, "Well, you have two boys, don't you? We have to take care of our girl, yeah?"
You were going to get a cavity, your boys were so sweet.
You grinned, a giddy lovesick laugh bubbling up as you quickly leaned forward to scatter kisses all over Steven's adorable face. He laughed along with you as he pulled you into a hug, his arms wrapping around your back, careful not to disturb your bruise as he leaned back against the bed.
You continued placing little wet kisses all over his face until Marc begged you to stop, lightly pushing against your shoulders to get you out of his face. After much gentle pushing and several soft “get out of here’s”, you finally pulled away, smiling down at the man underneath you.
Marc gazed up at you through his eyelashes, looking at you as though you hung the stars in the sky. "You're so beautiful, you know that right? How did I ever get so lucky to call you mine?"
You shook your head, laying your forehead on his chest for a moment as you laughed softly under your breath. "You're so cheesy," you teased, lifting your head again to gaze into his beautiful brown eyes. "And you're also incorrect."
"Oh yeah?" He asked, lifting an eyebrow. You nodded.
"I'm the lucky one."
"Did you hit your head when you fell too?" He asked, a very wide, playful smile growing on his perfect lips, "Steven and I are the lucky ones. Period."
Before you could argue, Marc interrupted you with, "Steven agrees," causing you to giggle at them once more.
"Maybe we're both lucky," you eventually countered, running a hand through his curls, "Lucky to have met. Lucky to fall in love."
"Lucky to be yours," Marc added, kissing your wrist as you pulled your hand away from his hair. You smiled softly and nodded, leaning down to press a simple kiss to his lips. "Lucky to be yours," you agreed, "Both of yours."
Marc chased your lips, pulling you in for another sweet kiss, this time much longer and more passionate than the first. “Gosh, I love you. You know that right?” Marc mumbled against your lips as you pulled away. “I love you more than anything.”
You were officially a puddle and it was all his fault.
You grinned, leaning down once more to press a short, chaste kiss to his lips. “I love you too,” you murmured before pulling away. You could feel, Marc stifle a scoff, but before you could ask what was the matter he said, “Steven wants me to tell you he loves you too. He’s been hounding me for the last ten minutes to tell you-” “Have not,” Steven butted in, cheeks and ears turning a bright shade of pink, “Lying oaf.”
You chuckled at that but scooched off of them to stand, holding your hand out to help them off the bed. “Come on you two. Let’s go cuddle and watch a movie.”
Steven took your hand, smiling as he did so, and stood. “Can we watch Ratatouille? I know Marc hates it, but I love the cute little french song.” You nodded, giggling at Steven’s bright smile.
Before either of you left the room, Steven pulled you into a hug, kissing the top of your head. “Marc was telling you the truth, you know? We love you and feel lucky to be yours. Truly lucky.”
You wrapped your arms around his middle and nodded into his chest.
“I know. I really do. I love you too. Both of you,” you mumbled, a smile that was impossible to wave away on your lips.
“Now let’s go watch that movie. Whether Marc likes it or not.”

Marc cursed loudly as you cleaned the large cut on his hand with disinfectant. "That hurts you know!" He hissed trying to rip his hand out of your grasp. You rolled your eyes, firmly holding it in place as he whined at you like a child. This was probably the fifth time he'd done so.
"Oh hush, you big baby. I'm almost done," you teased, the corners of your lips twitching as they threatened to smile. He huffed at you and rolled his eyes just as you had. "That's what you said ten minutes ago," he mumbled in a grumpy sounding voice, though you could hear that he was also slightly teasing.
Now you smiled and laughed out loud. "Marc, baby, I've only been cleaning you up for five minutes at most." He grumbled but didn't disagree. "Besides, it's not my fault you and Steven got into a fight with the sidewalk."
You laughed at his gaped open mouth at your apparent audacity to say such a thing. "First of all, how dare you," Steven said now getting in on the conversation, "I didn't have anything to do with that. It was Marc's fault we fell. He was too busy staring at your-" "Shut up, Steven," Marc forcefully butted in, a faint blush settling into his cheeks.
You raised an eyebrow at him, smiling mischievously. "What exactly were you looking at that had you so distracted, Spector?" "Nothing," Marc said, obviously lying, "I just tripped. It's not a big deal. Let's just move on, okay?"
"Alright, if you say so..." you agreed aloud, but secretly you vowed to get Steven to tell you the truth later.
You dabbed the cut on his hand a few more times before lathering it in medicine and covering it with a large band aid.
"There," you said, still holding his hand, "Good as new." Marc took his hand away from your touch now, beginning to test out the Band-Aid and flex his hand.
Dumb dumb, you thought as he hissed in pain once more. You took his hand back in yours and shook your head. "Now why'd you do that?"
"I didn't think it'd hurt!" Ah, that boyfriend of yours. So smart yet so... not, sometimes.
"I'm sorry it still hurts..." you said, genuinely meaning it. You didn't like that he was in pain. Even if it was his fault and he was acting childish about it.
That's when you got an idea. Something that worked for you when you were a child, so it was bound to work on him, right?
"Hm, have I ever told you two about my secret superpower?" You asked, a soft smile playing on your lips. You gently ran your fingertips over the large expanse of his hand that was much bigger than yours, careful to avoid the area that hurt. His expression softened and he raised an eyebrow. "What?" Steven asked, "What do you mean, secret superpower?"
"Well," you began to explain, now ever so lightly petting your thumb across the bandage over his cut, "I have magic kisses. Magic healing kisses that will help your cut feel better in no time." Realizing you weren't serious about a real superpower now, Steven grinned.
"Is that so?" He asked, opening his hand more as you lifted it toward your face. You nodded and smiled softly, smoothing the back of his hand with your thumb.
"Well, I think you better work your magic then. It hurts an awful lot."
So you did. You tilted your head down and kissed the middle of his palm, over his bandage. You kissed it not once, but twice. One for each of your boys.
The second time, his hand stiffened underneath your lips, notifying you that Marc had started fronting again.
You sat back up and smiled at him while he raised an eyebrow at you. "Why'd you kiss it twice?" He asked, scooting closer to you on the bed. You smiled a little wider, reaching the hand that wasn't holding his to brush away a few curls that had dropped in front of his eyes.
"Well, I have two boys, don't I?" You asked rhetorically. "Gotta take care of 'em both."
Marc's expression softened as you rested the hand that fixed his hair against his cheek. He leaned into your touch and reached up to hold your hand where it laid, turning his face for a moment to kiss your palm and then your wrist. He turned back to you after that, gazing at you in a way that made the butterflies in your stomach go wild. He gazed at you, so intensely lovesick, that you weren't sure how much longer you could hold his gaze without melting into a puddle.
"Steven says he loves you," Marc said, tugging you closer. You were almost sitting in his lap at this point, but you didn't mind. "I think I do too."
"You think?" You asked in mock surprise, making a show of trying to pull away from him. When in reality, there was no place you'd rather be than in his arms. He chuckled lowly and held you firmly, moving your hand that held his so that it rested over his heart. You could feel it beat quickly and rhythmically in his chest. Beating for you, he'd told you before. For you and only you.
"No, I know," he mumbled, leaning forward to rest his forehead on your own. "I know I love you."
"That's more like it," you teased, nudging your nose against his. "I love you too. Both of you."
It didn't take long for Marc to lean in for a kiss, capturing your lips in a sweet, tender way. As he moved his lips against yours, he gently moved a hand up your arm and neck, cradling your jaw so he could deepen the kiss. You sighed through your nose and wrapped your arms around his neck, pulling yourself even closer to him, if that was possible.
The kiss wasn't very long. Moments later, much to your disappointment, he pulled back for a second before kissing you again, much to your delight. Only this time the kiss started feather light and airy. Now you knew that it was Steven who was kissing you. He must've been hounding Marc to let him front so he could have a kiss too. You smiled against his lips as you imagined it. Steven being all pouty and adorable.
Steven's kiss was just as amazing as Marc's, but much more gentle and slow. He took more time with you, and instead of holding your face, he carded his hand through your hair, tangling his fingers into their rightful place.
Once he pulled away, you were left dizzy with affection for the boys you loved with your entire being.
"Thank you, lovey," Steven breathed, his warm breath fanning your cheeks, looking equally as breathless and lovesick as you, "For fixing us up, I mean." You giggled and leaned back a little to untangle yourself from each other.
Steven untangled his hand from your hair, brushing your face with his palm and fingertips before setting it down in his lap. As he brushed your face, you felt the bandage on his hand against your cheek, reminding you what had happened before the kiss.
You couldn't help but tease them, grinning as you said, "Looks like your hand feels better, huh?"
Steven looked confused before looking down at his hand and then back at you, remembering their cut. He rolled his eyes, but smiled nonetheless. "Yeah, I guess it does," he agreed.
You smiled mischievously now and went to tease them again, but Steven surprised you by interrupting you.
"Though, you know, now that I think about it, this morning I accidentally burnt my tongue on tea, and it still really hurts," he told you, hiding mischief behind an innocent face, but you could see it in his eyes. "I just consulted with Marc and he concurs. We think we need another one of your magic kisses."
You wanted to laugh, but kept it in. They could just ask for another kiss instead of trying to barter for one. But instead of saying so, you played along.
"You think?" You asked, repeating your words from earlier. You wrapped your arms around his neck again, this time burying one of your hands in his hair, tugging the ends softly. At that he grinned and leaned forward, brushing his nose against yours, lips almost touching before whispering those all so familiar three words.
"No, I know."
Before pressing his lips to yours in a head-dizzying kiss.

"Can I have a hug?"
You looked over at your boyfriend who was currently sitting on the couch, watching something on tv. What it was, you weren't sure. You hadn't been paying attention. The only thing on your mind was hugging time.
He turned around to meet your pouty gaze, a smile tugging at the corners of his lips.
"Yeah, I'll give you a hug," Marc said, sounding surprised that you felt the need to ask and not just do. When you wanted a hug, you just went in for it, usually resulting in someone getting a bruise from the sudden force. That person is Marc.
He set the remote down on the little table beside the couch and walked over to where you sat on his bed. He was never one to turn down a good cuddle. Though he used to hate to admit it, he was now very comfortable with his cuddling addiction.
"What's up baby? Everything okay?" Marc slipped onto the bed and sat beside you. He wrapped his arms around your shoulders and held you close, squeezing you lightly. You sighed, immediately beginning to relax.
"It is now," you all but groaned, wrapping your arms around his broad torso. A wide, pleased smile grew on your face, and you were sure he could feel it against his chest with how close you two were squished together.
He sighed contently into your hair, placing light kisses against your hairline. "You sure, sweetheart?" He asked you, "I mean, by all means, you're free to ask for hugs, but usually you just... come get 'em. 'Y know?"
You sighed again, more out of frustration this time than comfort. Your day has been exhausting. A busy day at work while being overly anxious was not doing you any favors. Not to mention the mental to-do list you couldn't stop thinking about.
"Yeah... Today's just been rough. Good thing your hugs are a cure all," you stated, the stress of the day already fading away with every passing minute you were held in his embrace.
He kissed your forehead now, but didn't remove his lips as he spoke. "I'm sorry your day's been rough, baby. 'There anything else I can do. Do ya wanna talk about it? Hm?" His lips brushed against your skin as he spoke in a way that made you relax impossibly faster.
You shook your head, burying it into his neck with a smile. "Just you hugging me is enough. Thank you Marc," You sighed. He tightened his arms around you, giving you one more squeeze before letting go just a little to move you two.
Slowly, but carefully, he lowered you two onto the bed so you were laying down without really breaking contact. Now you were really cuddling.
Marc laid onto his back, pulling you down with him. You could feel the soft comforter against your skin, bringing you, well, comfort. His bed was your favorite place to be, for more reasons than one. The first being how ridiculously comfortable it was, and secondly, how much it smelled like him. Like fresh laundry, his cologne, and something that was just so Marc it was hard to explain.
He laid you down in such a way that your head was resting on his chest while he laid on his back. You softly threw your leg over his hips for maximum comfort, sighing as he ran his fingers through your hair. His other hand held your thigh that was laid across his body, smoothing a chaste hand over your skin to soothe your stress away.
"Feeling any better, sweetheart?" He asked into your hair, kissing you gently as he waited for a response. You grinned and nodded into his chest in response as you felt overwhelmed with love for the man underneath you. "Good," he said. You could hear the smile in his voice. "Good."
Even though you said that you had been feeling better, Marc didn't move. He wasn't planning on moving until you asked him to. And somewhere inside, a small voice told him he never wanted to move again. You felt so peaceful and relaxed in his arms now, much more content than you were minutes ago, and Marc was happy to see you that way. If you told him to lay with you like that forever, he knew he wouldn't hesitate to obey.
You were his love, his world, his everything. He would be a fool to let you go so quickly.
Marc began to softly draw hearts against the skin of your thigh. His fingers left goosebumps in their wake as they gently grazed your skin. You giggled a little when it began to tickle, but quieted down when he ceased his loving torture.
Now much more relaxed than before, you found your eyelids become heavy as sleep tried to take you over.
With a heavy head, and even heavier eyelashes, you gazed up through them at Marc. He looked down at you as though you had hung the stars and moon in the sky. It made the butterflies in your stomach swarm with happiness. Happiness that couldn't be contained and bubbled into three words that meant everything.
"I love you."
You reached a heavy hand up to touch his face, using your fingertips to lazily trace over his features one by one. You started with his thick eyebrows and then made your way down the bridge of his nose, tracing his lips, then his jaw, before tucking a dark curl behind his ear. "I love you, Marc Spector."
Marc smiled sweetly now, relaxing into your touch as your fingers took their path around his features once more. And soon, instead of tracing a relaxed smile, you felt a teasing one grow on his lips.
"How much?" He asked, a sweet teasing to his tone. You grinned again, and without thinking about it, you sleepily threw yourself back and opened your arms wide. "This much," you slurred, thinking that your tired answer was adequate.
But apparently Marc, who thought your tired drunkenness was adorable, was not satisfied.
He rolled over and placed his forearms on either side of your head. Then, after giving you a kiss on the forehead, he leaned down and laid his head against your chest. His favorite pillows, you remembered him saying.
As he chuckled lightly at your slurred speech, his laugh vibrated into your skin as he kissed your collar bone before laying into his previous spot.
"I was thinking more like... On a scale of one to ten, how much do you love me?" You giggled as he pressed another kiss against you collarbone, thinking of the highest number you could.
You sighed now, still sleepy, but your silliness was gone and replaced by pure love for the man laying against your chest.
"I love you a million."
You ran a gentle hand through his hair as he leaned up again to look at you through his long, beautiful eyelashes.
Neither of you said anything else aloud. You didn't need to. Your eyes told each other everything. Marc looked at you like you were the most beautiful work of art ever created. Like you were the eighth wonder of the world. He looked at you with reverence. Like the entire rest of the world didn't exist and it was only you and Marc floating through eternity together. You imagined that your expression looked the same.
