hope asks about cora a few times during her childhood. nothing of any substance, just the curious nature of children. regina watches her after school for a few hours until emma can get home from an evening shift (though, most times after those shifts, regina sleeps with two blonde swan girls snuggled against her), and she reminds hope your mama will be home very soon, and hope’s tiny eyebrows furrow as she looks up, adorably imploring, and asks where’s your mommy? regina doesn’t really know what to say. she beats around the bush the first few times - talks about how grandma snow is like a mommy to everyone, and how hope is very lucky that she has so many mommy-like people in her life, and that henry has two mommy’s. hope asks if that means she also has two mommy’s, and regina feels her heart ache even harder at that than it did at the cora question. i love you like a mommy does, she tells her and hope seems to settle at that.

in her teen years, hope wants to know. henry tells her bits and pieces, always careful of regina’s privacy. grandma snow fills in the rest. ma won’t talk about cora except to say she’s an awful person and hope shouldn’t go down those rabbit holes — oh, and don’t mention that name to regina, okay, kid? hope really doesn’t want to make regina sad, so she doesn’t ask. but sometimes she’ll hear sad stories from snow about the past, and it’ll make hope hug regina a little bit tighter.

The reason why McConnell is currently ambiguously dead is because KY law was recently amended to state that a vacant senate seat must be filled by a special election, but previously, the duty to fill a vacant senate seat was by appointment of the current governor. The present KY gov is a Democrat, and has the means to challenge the special elections rule in the state supreme court, under the argument that it is unconstitutional to governor's power as outlined in the KY state constitution. So given the risk of a Dem appointee who would become an incumbent to challenge, or a special election race in the middle of the Mamdani Endorsement DemSoc run on congressional seats, McConnell will remain in quantum superposition between life and death until there is no longer a risk of his republican power being challenged.
