Being critical of your interests is sooooo fun when you have the critic gene & then you sound kind of insane to the average tv watcher when you're like "this is my favorite show, It's Racist" & then you try to clarify what you mean & get that [Speech (legendary) - FAILURE] "the racism is really interesting though"
[Speech (legendary) - SUCCESS] I find the sociopolitical context of pulpy old sci-fi born circa the civil rights movement really fascinating to analyze especially when it was progressive for its time but still reveals the writers' unexamined biases in the subtext
Them: So you're saying its bad and I shouldn't watch it?
Me: I mean depends on your tolerance for this type of racism, but like I said it's my favourite show, it def has some great parts if you're up for it.
Them: Oh so it's not racist.
Me: It absolutely is.
Them: So you're saying racism is ok??
Me: No.
At some point you have to accept that human progress is a nuanced experience in which the obvious moral failings of the past are things you cannot retroactively punish, but also HAVE to be recognized as having occurred so as not to repeat them, or you're just going to spend your life apologizing forever in a desperate attempt to never screw up.
I have no soul and I must scream.
Sorry to pull you back into Samsara, Kongo Sensei
so im being horny and wayching porn and i burst out laughing because the top came and he literally sounds like someone chopped off his finger or some shit it's so fucking extra and i wish i could post it but i can't but its so fucking funny
I don't have time for tumblr discourse they're calling the very hungry caterpillar degenerate art over on twitter
good art is when something looks like real life, the more real it looks the more better the art. abstracted figures give my trad children nightmares, one time they were exposed to cubism and couldn't go outside for a week
Huh fascinating, I wonder what the fash have against Eric Carle? I wonder what he might have said about his life, and influences, and early experiences that makes them say he’s part of an ‘insalubrious culture’?
Franz Marc (1880-1916) was a German painter and printmaker, one of the key figures of the German Expressionist movement.
"Insalubrious culture" is a phrase that sounds like it came straight out of the Reichskulturkammer

Imagine if we did the “public libraries are punk” thing for other subcultures. Imagine if people made shirts that said “Soup kitchens are grunge” or “Mixed Use Urbanism is Juggalo”.
Air Bud, Vikings, Epistemology, Bullshit, and Fascism. When knowing what is True is a barrier to controlling people, people who want to rule you will try to make it impossible to know things. I hope this video kills AI the way Dan Olson's "Line Goes Up" killed NFTS.
If an internet cartoon costs zero dollars to watch, and the profit necessary for producing it relies on merchandise sales that are now at risk due to shipping cost increases/lowered discretionary spending because of global economic chaos, the act of putting its finale ep into theaters rather abruptly, as an "experience as product" makes more sense.
Everyone is being forced to hustle in new, weird, and perhaps ill-advised, increasingly risky ways, but as financial power gradually becomes consolidated entirely under fewer people and their organizations, it's either swing for the fences with something unusual or accept inevitable failure and bankruptcy without having tried at all. What looks like "money grubbing" and "scamming" is unfortunately just the cost of doing business in a capitalist system which selects for unscrupulosity, ruthlessness, and cruelty, and those who don't want to participate in those behaviors are blamed for their inability to do whatever it takes to succeed.
Business scruples are, ironically, now a luxury limited in access to the people who never actually implemented them in the first place.
Last night, I watched a youtube video that broke down the issue of "indie studios" as a well-intentioned remedy for the corporate studio system, but unfortunately ends up just recreating the previous gatekeeping systems but under different nomenclature. The video is very dry and very much in the language of Cold Unfeeling Economic and Sociocultural Analysis (content warning for Karl Marx Das Kapital jumpscare), but it is very honest about how making things always takes fuel, and it's not just liquid money that's the cost. In summary, barriers of exclusivity still remain that prevent the true ability for "anyone to make something", it's just instead of initial corporate financial support, this time it's dependency on pre-existing social capital that is required to make a show possible. In other words, a vast pre-existing fan-base.
In light of recent events, I wonder if that takes an even more notorious toll on creators by forcing them into public figurehead roles they just simply shouldn't be asked to shoulder. Not everyone is equipped for the burdens of managing public engagement as a form of capital investment. Put bluntly, I think as we move deeper into social media, public attention-fueled creative projects, we're going to see more creatives being turned into parasocial figureheads expected to become whipping children for the inevitable difficulties of the business, and it is not going to be pleasant. It isn't logical or humane to expect a creator of a cartoon to bear the duty of managing the behavior of every facet of their audience, including making PR statements about things like distribution logistics, but in this late capitalist era of Humanity as Product, here we are.
I'm so tired of having ai forced on me
If a company forces me to use AI garbage, you are going to see me on the news, because my head will split open and a swarm of flesh devouring locusts will pour out of my corpse

Happy 20th Birthday John Freeman
This guy taking the string motif of Danse Macabre where it overlaps with "Hens and Roosters" from Carnival of the Animals and just running with it
I keep running into posts and discussions where people are trying to figure out what Caine's deal actually IS, and it just depresses me because I feel like it's a case of "Unfortunately this show isn't long enough to really explain all the nuances of all the characters, and the one that the show is most interested in isn't my favorite."
