BoJack Horseman Season 6, Episode 6: “The Kidney Stays in the Picture”
If anyone who relates a lot to Bojack is still watching the show, I want to recommend: Guide for Men Who Are Serious About Changing - Part 1
Guide for Men Who Are Serious About Changing - Part 2
What if you’re a woman aligned nonbinary person who is serious about changing?
I think these guides can be useful to anyone who has a history of abusive behavior. While the guides are written specifically for men who are abusive within an intimate relationship towards their female partners, the principles involved can be applied to any context where someone has leveraged power over someone else for their own benefit. I recommend it for people of any gender in relationships with people of any genders. I recommend it for people who realize they are being controlling and manipulative in their friendships. I recommend it for white people who realize (or are told by a friend of color) they did something racist and harmful. I recommend it for anyone who’s been called out for a pattern of oppressive behavior. It’s useful and broadly applicable because of the process it outlines. You might need to do some translation and consider honestly how a statement should be reworded to fit your situation, but it’s very possible. As Bancroft says at the start of Part 1: The process of change is difficult but it’s not mysterious.
Happy Valentine’s Day everyone.
