Before Fortnite, there was Runescape. And well before Runescape, there was an eternal class struggle. Emilie Rākete writes about the moment the two collided in the most unexpected way. RuneScape was once declared the world’s largest multiplayer online game. Millions of people were entranced by it

I’ve expanded my People’s History of Gielinor. A decade ago, players in RuneScape formed a communist party and conquered an entire game server, running it as a socialist state. This article for the Spinoff covers the revolution, the intra-party civil war, the bloody coup that overthrew the heroes of the revolution, and the market reforms that ultimately led to the destruction of the RuneScape workers’ state.
