It was not. It was added by @dedalvs
Damn straight! Donāt give AI credit for what I did!
Also, that holds. Donāt obey the Orange Idiot. Let us all do everything we can to make what remains of his miserable life even more miserable.

Have you seen the Phyrexian language created for Magic: the Gathering? If you have, what are your thoughts on it?
I'm going to be honest: if this was a private languageāsome beginning conlanger had made it and wanted to shareāI'd say it looks like a good effort, and to keep at it! Knowing that it's a professional project... This is terrible work. Across the board. I suppose it's a step up that it's not gibberish, but, good gravy, hire someone. Or go to r/conlangs and ask users to collaboratively create the worst thing they can think of as a joke in the comments and use that.
I remember when Magic: The Gathering came out. (Full disclosure, a friend of mine and I actually shoplifted a couple packs once. I owe that shop some money...) I thought it was fun, and still think it's fun, even if I never got into it heavily. The artwork is top notch. Now imagine for some new artwork they decided to ask their accounting team to do it, rather than the usual artists they work withāsay the entire artwork for a new expansion. And the cards all looked the same in terms of design except the artwork looked like this:
That's something I did in third grade (I was really into The Real Ghostbusters). And you know what? That's not bad for a third grader! But I wasn't paid to do it. If I had been, and you got something like this...
I mean, MtG fans would think it was a joke. It's completely unprofessional and amateurish. It's fine as a joke, but, like...no. That's not a real card.
So...I guess saying that it's better than nothing is the highest praise I can give it. And, actually, it may have been better if it were simply left to the imagination of players.
Im really torn between the fact that my favorite set of all time Will be seeing the light of the day again ( lorwyn) and my gut feelings of how It Will be fucked up by the new superbland mediocre art style and the real world politic agenda ( not so) subtly pushed in late sets, in a CARD GAME. We want to see stories of faeries, kithkins, elves, goblins, Giants, merfolk and cinders in their beautiful fantasy setting, no trans they/them faeries that think they're kithkins
Two points:
1) When returning to a world, weāre very cognizant of the aesthetic of the world. We understand returning to Lorwyn requires embracing what made people love it the first time around. Obviously, there will be updates, as the game has evolved much since our first visit, but weāre very aware of the need to recapture the planeās essence.
2) For far too long, fantasy, as a genre, was used as a way to reflect the worldview of those in power. It leaned into stereotype and reflected how the privileged wished the world was. Modern fantasy is more reflective of the actual world, which includes the wide variety of life experiences that exists.
Trans people, people of color, and women playing a larger role, are all part of modern fantasy because theyāre all part of the actual world, and itās important that our stories and world building be reflective of that.
āI want to return to a time where we could ignore the existence of certain elements because I was happy living in that ignoranceā is not an excuse to deny real people and their real life experiences.
Entertainment is at its best when it lifts everyone up and isnāt used as yet another means to ignore certain peopleās reality.
Bridge to the Turnabout
the truth of his nightmare
Did everyone have a good Christmas? I spent the day thinking about the girl who heard that her adoring father had prosecuted the boy who was like a family member.

"Magicās core natural allows players to choose what they play with. If you really dislike something, donāt play with it. You also can choose your play group, so if you find like minded people, you can avoid whatever you want."
For starters I'm gonna make it clear that I don't mind UB in standard at all and that I'm merely about to relay arguments I've heard from others who are upset with this change.
"If you don't like it, don't play with it" arguments only really make sense for casual play or limited play, where it's easier to curate your magic experience by choosing your playgroup or what sets you draft. This argument falls apart for the competitive scene though, since while players theoretically have completev control over what they play with, they do not have control over the meta. Let's say the Spider-Man set rolls around, and now some overpowered artifact from it is defining the standard meta (like how The One Ring found its way into half of all modern decks). If you're a competitive standard player, you WILL have to deal with that busted Spider-Man card, since plenty of your opponents will have it, which you do NOT have control over. This isn't just theoretical, it happened in Modern with LOTR.
I understand that people who will refuse to play with UB are the vast minority of players, and that you aren't going to cater specifically to them. I personally like UB and I have no problem with this new direction Magic is going in. My only point is that "don't like it, don't play with it" is a very weak argument, ESPECIALLY for the competitive crowd (aka the people most affected by UB in standard), because in that context it is simply not true.
My point was if you absolutely refuse to play with Universes Beyond, that's the avenue to do so. There's no way to play with the best card available and avoid playing Universes Beyond. Some of the times, the best card for a specific effect will be a Universes Beyond card.
So yes, if you want to play competitive Magic (outside certain limited environments) and insist on playing the best deck in the environment, there's no way to guarantee that you won't have to play Universes Beyond cards.
Hi Mark!
If you could go back in time at any point in 2024 and change one design decision made in this year's sets, what would you change?
I would have changed the amount of Ravnica in Murders of Karlov Manor and lowered the amount of top-down detective stuff.
