What can I say about me? I'm a dude (mostly...sometimes....idk), a nerd, a teenage rebel, a sorcerer, black as Ace of Spades and Ace as a Black Spade (I couldn't resist) and...you have to figure out the rest. Nat Turner Day

This month is Hoodoo Heritage Month and today is Nathaniel “Nat” Turner day. Born Oct. 2nd, Nat was an enslaved preacher who led a merciless, 4 day rebellion known as the bloodiest slave rebellion on American soil. He was captured on Oct. 30th. He was tarred, set on fire, and hung simultaneously. Once dead the white southerners then ate his meat, turned his skin into leather, and his bones into grease and oil. His rebellion led to the building of the Citadel in SC.

In Hoodoo he is considered a powerful spirit of war and massacre who can wipe out entire bloodlines. His spirit is vengeful towards white passing individuals and peoples of a white bloodline post slavery. He is not a spirit to be petty with and once invoked is hard to put back to rest. (Depictions of Nat’s spirit may vary,but this is what I was taught.)

Hey, hoodoo tumblr, I'm trying to see something:

Do you think Hoodoo has gods/goddesses? And if so, where would you find them? Or how would you interpret them?

And I don't mean Loa/Orisha/Orixa (although, for some that might be part of their practice); how did enslaved Africans in the Bible belt South hide our gods/goddesses back in the way back? Where do we need to look to find them? What personifications of nature do they represent?

I'll go first:

* The Flying Africans of Igbo Landing/The African spirits of Igbo Landing that walked on the waters back to Africa - spirits of water and sky

* Hurricanes as the personification of Ancestral wrath

I notice a lot of old negro folktales have the Devil as more of a trickster than really evil. Maybe there was an African diety or set of dieties that was reimagined as a more morally grey devil upon the enslaved being forced to come to America. Or maybe they just looked at the Western devil and reinterpreted it as something more palstable to their sensibilities.

and you know what the fucking bullshit is  they’re replacing it with a ~6 months free of a subscription to a third party captions provider~ which of course you’d have to pay for after those 6 months are up and you KNOW random youtuber #9039 isn’t going to bother to keep paying for that either because they won’t have the money or they just won’t care. and youtube’s going to act like that’s a perfectly fine alternative that won’t result in the majority of the site suddenly going from “more or less accessible” to “Fuck You If You’re Disabled” 

“citing low usage” are you fucking kidding me nearly every worthwhile video i watch uses community captions. sometimes they’re kind of janky cuz they were made by some 14 year old who thought it’d be funny to put their own irrelevant jokes and commentary in there but that wasn’t a reason to ditch the feature entirely when its so useful and important

i’m not even hard of hearing and i rely on them to watch videos in other languages…this is literally how people have been making english subs for japanese songs and the like for years and it was great because you didn’t have to reupload the videos yourself and take away views from the original creators. many creators don’t allow reprints of their work whatsoever so if they go through with this (which unfortunately they seem pretty deadset on because lololol moneyyyyyy) it’s entirely likely that there just won’t be a way to watch that content with captions

there’s a petition to keep community captions…i don’t know if it’ll really do anything since they’re already going ~oh but we have Paid Alternatives!~ but don’t just let this pass by this should be a huge deal but i’ve barely seen anyone talking about it (not that i expect people to talk about things of any particular importance on tumblr but it’s not even getting attention on twitter beyond that one thread and like 2 other posts)

This is also going to have a negative affect on people who watch videos in a foreign language since a lot of the subtitles in a language different from the video are community done captions too. Imagine how much harder it’ll be to watch most videos on youtube if you stuggle with English and now none of them are going to have subtitles for you.

I'm not saying that I doubt people who claim to speak with dieties in their dreams and recieve insight from them. I do believe that happpens.

My question is: why the fuck are yall getting these wise old, nurturing, friendly visits? Why are they being NICE to you??? Whenever a diety appears in one of my dreams, their reaction is always

1. Oh. It's you. 😐

2. Wait, literally why are you here???

3. I am going to fucking kill you. Or at least give you the worst nightmare ever.

And before anyone asks, no I don't do anything to offend the gods. I mean, sure the first time I experienced number 3 was because I referred to the sacred animal of one goddess as ugly. But every time after that was completely random!

Yes, I have become a much bigger snide, narcissistic jackass over the years. But back when I was a mild mannered, polite kid who was able to do a lot more to revere my dieties on a regular basis? Same shit. But the rest of ya'll get insight and advice? That's just plain unfair.

Warding With Spiderwebs

So, I know a lot of people are scared of spiders and dont want them anywhere near them. I don’t like spiders but as long as they’re not on my bed or wherever I may be working, it’s fine. Why am I fine with it? Because spiders help catch other nasty bugs that you don’t want crawling around, including other spiders. So instead of killing them or releasing them (it all depends if you have like a spider infestation or not, this is for the people with a few spiders here and there), how about they help you in return for helping them? So here’s some really neat warding concepts:

-Use the spiderwebs to catch any negative energy to turn into good energy for the spider. You both get something. -Use the spiderwebs as a physical and non-physical barrier, charge them with protection spells and energy or what not and it will keep you, as well as the spider, safe. -Have lots of spiders? Release the ones you find and leave behind 2 or 3, it’ll bring good karma back to you and you may make a wish for each spider you release.

Well there you go. Hopefully this helps some people with warding and/or getting over their fear of spiders. Good luck!
