new post kind of new account i think im entering a dying fandom but idc my hyperfix wont die. bullshit connor theory-posting/headcanon/corn-plating/whatever the fuck go

going back and forth in my head picking connors brain ive realized he kind of only makes decisions for himself pre-deviating whenever hes given an excuse for said decision? unless theres something ive just completely forgotten, but like. shaolin, he doesnt have an out so he calls for hank because he Has To. he has an out when gavin and chris are scaring him (needs him alive), when kara jumps the fence (commanding officer tells him to stay back), when he lets rupert run off to save hank (maybe a stretch but prioritizing human life), when he spares echo and ripple (needs them alive, he even says this), and when he spares chloe (again commanding officer tells him not to, and he does admit he didnt WANT to shoot her when hank asks but it lines up with all the other previous decisions). he even has an excuse for some of the things he does in machine route, namely tearing ripples head off to trick her girlfriend (which was sadistic and entirely not needed, but he did have reasoning for it). he does not have an out during last chance connor, when hes under threat of death. although that entire chapter is kinda woah wtf because Why Is He Talking To Himself?

im not saying he was always deviant i am not a believer of "connor was made to be deviant" theory that pisses me off thrice a month on average but. it kind of feels like someone trying to express themself through chat options in a game? like animal jam or some shit. even the way he talks. i dont know if he does it intentionally, or if he actually cant do anything unless the path is opened for him. he is such a strange ass character.

anyway i was gonna put more here but apparently i have a lot to say so thats gonna have to be split up. maybe later

I'm also not a fan of the "Connor was intentionally made deviant from the start" fanon/theory (or the ending where Amanda claims he was meant to deviate from the beginning... or basically any of the Amanda endings honestly, it really undermines not only the story but the game as a whole to have the plot go "ooo CyberLife meant for all this to happen!!!" If I'm feeling exceedingly generous, I can see that maybe it's meant as a meta-narrative on how Connor really has no choice in his life and how he's trapped by CyberLife, by making the player feel as if none of their choices mattered either. But that's very generous and I still think it's stupid. I've devoted several posts to this already. I will never let it go, I fear.)

Having said that ☝🏻 Connor does show more of an ability to ignore orders and laws than other fresh out of the box androids do (taking the gun being a big one) in favor of his mission. While I don't believe he was intentionally created to be deviant, I do think CyberLife was intentionally trying to toe the line and have him push/bend laws in order to accomplish his mission, because they're the richest company in the world who have their fingers in the government at this point, so they can do whatever the hell they want and, as long as Connor succeeds, they won't be taken to task for it legally or lose their power within the government. They still want their loaded gun under their control, though, which is why I don't think he was made deviant. They wanted him to make decisions that benefitted them, not himself (hence why if you choose not to chase after Kara and Alice on the highway, his software instability goes up because that's against his programming of doing whatever it takes to accomplish his mission.)
