But when it comes to public radio people reading ad copy at the beginning or middle of a show, [Benjamin] Walker told me “that’s a terrible, terrible idea… The leg up that public media folks have going into podcasting comes from this connection to the listener-supported content model,” he said. “And for us to endanger that with the fucking ads seems like a terrible idea. Who’s going to want to give support for their favorite podcast when they hear eight million ads?”

I really like the way Benjamin Walker tries to protect the atmosphere that keeps trust in podcasting. It’s an uphill battle but I respect it.

You must understand, I love my brother, he was ok growing up with, though he was an older hit-you-on-the-arm-for-flinching kind of brother, and I mostly filter all family stuff through him since I’m estranged from my disabled father that he lives near and gives me updates on. My father is estranged because he orchestrated a secret wedding between him and his nurse in the weeks after my mom died and this is now three years later and I’ve never met her and I don’t really intend to and last week my dad referred to her as “your stepmother” in an email to me even though she’s closer to my age than his.

Some of this piece is really good parody. Some of it undoes the parody by just being honest. But I loved this bit of the piece.

Lawyers for the Australians had hoped to challenge in the Administrative Court President Joko Widodo's refusal to grant 64 drug felons mercy on the grounds Indonesia is facing a drug emergency. They said he should have examined Chan and Sukumaran's clemency pleas on an individual basis and taken into account their rehabilitation.

This is sad news. The laws and traditions of a land and its people have been ignored in favour of political backroom dealings and judicial corruption. Because of this, rehabilitated inmates who could help countless others are likely to be executed.
