Nothing personal (except the harry potter fan) but I'm probably gonna softblock followers i don't already know. I did the whole large audience of strangers thing for a LONG time and I'm not into it anymore.

Theres a lottttt i wanna do differently next time, including getting non-smudge topcoat, but im still proud of my first attempt at these nails!
LMAO that the incumbent city controller (who's fantastic!!) got more votes so far than the incumbent mayor. Ridiculous city with cartoon politics.
californians, consider calling your state assemblymembers in order to object to the current budget proposal stripping Medi-Cal (our Medicaid) from asylees and refugee applicants except in emergencies. also, they’re agreeing to reduce the asset limit for many Medi-Cal recipients back to $2000. That number means that the maximum amount a Medi-Cal recipient who is aged, blind, or disabled can have in the bank at any time is $2000. That figure is obscenely low, and it’s actually lower by about fifty bucks than the amount they’re allowed to get each month in income.* if enacted this policy change will vastly hurt thousands of seniors and disabled people and i’m not kidding. please speak up if you can.
My speaking voice in Spanish is like a 5th lower than my English voice?? I dont change registers at all in Japanese so that's fascinating data.

the thing I've found to be the most enduring trait of radfems by reading theie literature is that they LOVE, LOOOOOVE anecdotes (especially orientalised ones but that's a different story) but they do not generally like actual data, studies, historical studies, etc. The majority of the stuff out there is just throwing a lot of very evocative anecdotes and stories at you and pretty much no numbers, studies, anything of rigour. A book will so often just be a very long sequence of very affecting anecdotes and, frankly, vibes.
My therapist and I agreed its time for me to start tapering down and graduating! Wow! Ive only ever stopped with a therapist AMA with forms and shit or because of some disruption like insurance or a move.
Idk how many more times i have it in me to explain to my psychiatrist that with the amount of meds im on, offering a 3 month supply is like going "Why dont you keep a gun in your house 😃"
I've decided to use the term "convenience food" instead of "junk food."
I think it's more honest, and less loaded. It's all food, some of it is more appropriate when you don't have the spoons left for food prep. It takes slightly more energy to peel a banana than to open a bag of chips.
We try to save the convenience food for days when we need something easy, so eat a banana.
ENNH! WRONG ANSWER
All food fuels your body. If it contains calories, it is fuel. Some foods are denser fuels, some foods have nice additional benefits, but all foods fuel you.
Some foods are really good for building muscle, or supporting your bone health, or giving you energy. Some foods are really good at tasting nice. All of them fuel your body.
Good food/bad food is just puritan dichotomous thinking in service of the Shame Industrial Complex- let's get those "should" hooks intob everything you enjoy.
Food is fuel. Your relationship with it is personal. Almost all dichotomies oversimplify beyond utility.
So, I had to do a bunch of therapy as a kid because I had anorexia. My dietician drilled into me "food has no moral value. there's no such thing as Good Food or Bad Food; if it's edible and you're not allergic to it, then it has a use in your diet, even if that use is just 'enjoy eating it'. Enjoyment is part of your diet and happiness is a vital nutrient." Basically, even if ice cream "isn't healthy," if it helps you feel better after a shitty day then it's fulfilling one of your basic needs: happiness. So eat the fucking ice cream and feel better. ENJOYMENT IS PART OF YOUR DIET AND HAPPINESS IS A NUTRIENT
I’ve been looking forward to sailing for so long, but I had forgotten exactly how completely joyous it is to be out of my wheelchair and in a little sailing boat. Hours later and I’m still smiling and uplifted by it.
In my chair I move by pointing my joystick the way I want to go. In the boat moving is a conversation between you, the boat, the wind, the tide, and the current. One where I am immersed in my environment.
And I think of how many thousands of years people have been sailing for and being part of that same conversation. All those people who have been on the water and hearing those same sounds of ropes and sails and water and birds.
If you’re in the UK, disabled and are even slightly curious about sailing/ power boating I really recommend looking up your local Sailability group – there’s absolutely loads of them on rivers, the sea, lakes and reservoirs all over the country.
The phrase I often hear is “if you can sit you can sail” which seems pretty accurate. I know quadriplegics who sail, and it’s possible to get equipment that allows you to control an entire boat using electric controls including sip and puff controls for people with no arm function. I can’t sit in the regular seats used in the boat because they’re too upright for me, but one of the other sailors has made me a custom seating system so I can sit reclined and have appropriate head and lateral support while in the boat.
On days when getting out my wheelchair isn’t an option, we also have a powerboat which allows you to drive your wheelchair straight onto the boat and stay in it. Other Sailability groups I know of also have access to larger sailing boats which are set up so that you can stay in your wheelchair.
Most places will give you a free taster session to see if you enjoy it, and they’re usually very highly subsidised and often have bursary schemes if finances are tight. It’s fun and it’s usually very social – tea and cake after is as much a part of sailing as being on the water for me.
some advice for people entering their 20s:
-dont go to the emergency room with dental problems. go to the dentist
-bagged greens are cheaper than pre-made salads
-taco bell is NOT worth the money anymore. 1/4 cup mayo, 1/4 cup sour cream, 3 tblspoons pickled jalapenos+2tblspoons of the jar liquid, 2 tsp paprika 1 tsp cumin 1 tsp garlic powder 1 tsp onion powder salt+pepper. all in your blender. creamy jalapeno sauce
-dont quit your job unless you have a bunch of job interviews lined up immediately after
-use resources. food bank, unemployment, housing assistance, financial aid, etc. yes there will be paperwork. but Do It
-dont stay awake longer than 20 hours. you Will start to become impulsive and cranky. resting for 20 minutes is better than trying to stay awake
-for every 2 hours you spend looking up close at screens, spend 20 minutes looking at something far away from you. stretch your wrists a lot
-dont do that yoga stretch where you roll your head around your shoulders. youre grinding down the joints in your neck
-be nice to your friends, bullying them as a joke gets old. if you need a ride somewhere at least offer them gas money
-brush your teeth at any time of the day but especially before you sleep. dont snack in bed if you can help it. make your bed the Clean Teeth Zone. keep floss picks by your bed
-dont tell your boss youre adhd/autism/depression/suicidal. dont trust your coworkers with that. you NEVER know how people will take it and its none of their business
-train your pets to go to the front door when they hear a fire alarm
-get regular oil changes

blocking tip: you don't have to wait to have a negative interaction with someone to block them. you can block them without ever interacting with them. I can't tell you how many times I've seen someone being rude to someone else and preemptively blocked them
"why'd they block me? we've never talked" bro if i see you being nasty to the bartender i'm not gonna chat you up
you’ll be fine. you made it out of impossible situations before and you will do it again
