for a Cape Coddian - traversing by this industrial complex slash contemporary art installation always signified "Welcome to the Big City" - to me it's like the gateway beacon to Boston

the piece depicts the mural on the gas tank by Corina Kent who’s work also includes the 1985 United States Postal Service stamp Love

My friend Sarah asked me if I painted this from a photograph or from memory - I answered her onf acebook accordingly;

I do not recommend photographing while driving - but honestly Sarah - I have been obsessing over this scene for decades now - I would get in the right most lane and blindly position the camera myself at an arms length - while driving - this was back with film even - I'd get the rolls developed and come out with nothing - blurr = I've done many drive byes that way - finally got something to work with - the photo never has the vitality that I remember seeing in real life but I did get a few good ones over time - so from a picture and from imagination and memory - but I definitely used photographic reference with this one - I've actually done about three or four paintings of this scene but I don't have images of the other ones.
