“Why are you painting people’s nails?”
“Then come on, handsome. Make me feel good.”
“Fine, good it is.” Reaching out and taking hold of her arm, he pulled the young blonde close and pressed his lips firmly against hers.
His request was a big one to ask, and she wasn’t sure she could stop the tears from falling. How did she know he was telling the truth? Of course she wanted to believe him, and the evidence was there in plain sight, but she couldn’t just go off words and a photograph, could she? Breaking from his gasp, she took a step back and tried to make some form of eye contact with him - which was hard when her eyes were clouded with tears. “I don’t… I still don’t know whether to believe you.” She spoke, quietly.
Gwen took another step back, unaware of how many of these she’ll be taking over the course of this encounter. “I’m sorry… I don’t..” The words weren’t there. Clearing her throat, she shakily took one more step back. “I’m just so.. confused.. I… I don’t know who you are.” She finally stuttered, knowing she’d hurt him once more. “I’m sorry, I don’t want to hurt you… I want to - I don’t know… I’m sure you’re a nice guy deep down, but I can’t believe you… I want to, I really do… but you’re dead!” She cried. “Or… Sean should be. I’m sorry… you’re not him, you’re not Sean Benson and you’re not my family.” Even the words stung and left a sour taste on her tongue. “I need to go.”
“Why are you doing this?!” Left his mouth before he had a chance to process the words. He allowed her the space between them, but he wasn’t going to allow his happiness to be ripped off of him once more. He didn’t want to yell at her, he still wanted to protect her—but not at the cost of his happy ending, and her lies. He knew that she’d figured him out, she knew he was real and yet here he was denying him again. He couldn’t take it. “Stop it.” He replied sternly, with his eyes piercing into hers. Any shed of positive emotion from his face had disappeared and was replaced with a bitter frown. “What else do I have to do to prove myself to you? Fucking die again!”Â
At the mention of her leaving, he panicked. Reaching out, he wrapped a rough hand around her wrist in an attempt to refrain her from exiting. “No! You’re not going anywhere until you start believing who I am!” He accepted that she did believe him to an extent, but that wasn’t enough. Sean needed more, he wanted the only family he had to admit it. To admit that they were one in the same. “I have nobody, Gwen! I have nothing!” His voice raised once more. “I’m fucking alone, so don’t tear this away from me! Please, I’m begging you! Just listen to me.” He felt like he was on the verge of tears himself. It was true, he was all alone. Everyone in the hotel he considered his friends still meant nothing compared to what his family meant to him. Now here was his family. A family that he’d always dreamed of having. Wealthy and living comfortable. He’d longed for riches, but knowing that the next generation of Benson’s had everything he had wanted would do him just fine. “If you leave me here alone then I swear to fucking god, I don’t know what I’ll do.” He knew exactly what he’d do. He’d slip back into the darkness he called his home for past decades and never leave again.
“So if they’re not at the desk they’re upstairs?”
“Wait for them?”
“Now you’re just pathetic you know that right? Oh wow, bitter much? Seriously if you don’t want to talk about her, walk away or change subject. Oh no wait now I’m telling you what to do again huh? What a horrible person I am.”Â
“I’m pathetic for not taking orders from a repugnant little rat? Wow, man. You’re the pathetic one, mate. Now fuck off before you get yourself in trouble.”
“Okay. Rude much? I can’t even find an employee around here.”
“Well.. no? Because that was in no way rude. Go to the desk then upstairs, this is the basement.”
