Twisted wonderland at its core is an isekai. Though Anime is ment to entertain us, thereās a reoccurring theme of redemptions for the house wardens who are based on the Disney villains. Often in today media, villains are given a tragic backstory much to the dismay of the real life issues. In twisted wonderland case we focus on a cast that is in need of desperate help to reflect on the struggles they face. Be it Riddle abusive mother or Vil despair on not being the fairest, Yuu has always been present to experience these events despite not being too involved (yuu massive influence is seen particularly in Book 3) Anyway the main point I want to bring up is that Crowley is obviously the kidnapper. (Other than whatever shit about to hit the ceiling fan in book 8 regarding crowley master plan). Yuu is important to all the Twist characters around them. Even to Crowley though we have yet to see that (Crowley seems to give Yuu hints in the novel when explaining that a house warden can be challenged) . In the novels Both Book 1 and specially 2, in Savanaclaw novel its mentioned that Grimm apparently attracts malice and causes other students around him to become enraged (note that the scene Iām refrencing is before Crewel explains spell drive and also there was the momment where Grimm calls Riddle a Tyrant) Ace when he around Yuu is open with his insecurities, And even more so (despite lack of screen time with Riddle) Riddle himself teams up with Yuu to spend time with Yuya and open up about his own feelings. Yuu is the Yin to Grimmās Yang. As mentioned Yuu is not only important to twisted wonderland but to the idea of the isekai genre. Speficly The Characters all want Yuu. Crowley steals Yuu/us( we dont know if Disney movies exist in Yuu world, but assuming it does) Crowley invites us to a world knowing we will fall for these villainous characters (though we have yet to meet the actual Disney villains) Assuming āEven so, Iā¦weāā book 8 prodolog is about changing fate, or giving redemption to those who need it the most. I imagine after Grimm and Yuu fall, Crowley whoās our main antagonist will be the last one in need of rescuing.
What I love about Yuu being our forced to be Isekai protagonist and Crowley the master mind is that we the audience are not only being challenged but forced to take look at the perspective of the villain. Im aware that people are both excited to see RSA and ready to antagonize them (Iāve seen discourse online about neige and rook) but we are in a Disney world/based off of it. RSA is not the villain but I imagine that there will be a slice of failing to see the other perspective or some count of negligence on empathizing with NRC that Crowley would need someone like Yuu (who isnt RSA or NRC) a being of pure shade of gray who can hope to resolve issues. The a problem in the Savanaclaw novel and manga where the npcs of twisted wonderland despite loving neige and cheering for NRC, are not always good people, Ruggie suffers from discrimination, Jamil loses his status as houswarden, Vil is under pressure by the public, and everyone terrified of malleus without giving him a chance. It feels like the normal people of twist are just as bad, if not worse than the villains for failing to find the beauty within the beast. Yuu/Yuya is one of those people who is abandoned by both in his own world. He has a dream where his classmates forget about him, no one bothers to even get to know him. Neither the good or bad. If Yuya was given a chance or someone got to know him like how NRC did he would be a normal individual. Got to wonder about the commentary of RSA and NRC. We get the backstories of the house wardens but it also seems like RSA has problems to that fall into the same category of NRC. Nobody trust Rielle to be ok on his own, Minajael suffers just like jasmine, and Vil mentioned that Niege isnt taking care of himself.
My obvious theory about Crowley is that he is Ravern. But the reason he left Melanor isnt on purpose. In book 7 during Lilia dream, Lilia mentioned that Melanor was suppose to be in an engaged marriage and ended up breaking it off by causing a lot of trouble. Assuming that Ravern (pretty obvious) is a Raven/Crow and literally F@#$ a dragon to make Malleus, the Senate would want him dead for corrupting the royal blood line. Lilia was kicked despite saving Malleus and the Draconian royal line. Ravern went missing during the fight against the white owls with no body to show. My guess is that Crowley the reason he went missing without returning (and also the way I see him getting defeated) is that he got turned into stone and woke up hundreds of years after Malleus was born.
He lost his wife, he lost the ability to father his child (assuming it would ever,lol), is he came back he would be seen as a traitor to everyone.
All because of Ignorance.
I dont know what else to say but Iād love to hear your thoughts about Yuu as a protagonist and there impact towards twisted wonderland plot. And Crowley as someone who willing to break the 4th wall and to keep finding the one isekai hero he needs.
Also bonus (love to see your reaction on this) I think Crowley is Twisted from Diablo, Basement crow, Merlin, Yen sid, and The prince from Snow White.
Merlin because Ambrose kind of closer to madame mim when he being a menace
Yen Sid because Crowley is clearly aware of things and in some aspects of wisdom (despite putting us in a house with health hazards) he lets the house wardens go with a minor warning because its what they need at the momment (they already learned there lesson from experiencing overbloting)
The prince from Snow White- If malleus found yuu like prince philip whatās to say that Crowley found Melanor like that. Crowley in his own right lost his princess, why not steal another to bring back his lover. By stealing Yuu from another. Crowley despite hinting at him being diablo has a lot of allusions to snow while with apples and mirrors.
