🐬 ⋆。˚ What’s the word around SOFIA NECCI in Capri these days ? Don’t look at me like that, you know them — they go by "SOF", you know, the TWENTY-SIX year old local. You can probably find them at CASA MIRAFLORA as GUEST RELATIONS MANAGER where people describe them as DEFENSIVE and AVOIDANT, but others swear they’re INDEPENDENT and OBSERVANT if you catch them at the right moment. They fit somewhere between handwritten postcards, gold jewelry faded from saltwater, espresso-stained notebooks, and fresh flowers in old glass bottles though most people associate them with BEING A SECRET ITALIAN HEIRESS. °‧🫧⋆˚。

☀️ BACKGROUND.
TW: mention of death and grief
Sofia was born on the island of Capri, where summer seemed endless with the smell of citrus and saltwater in the air. Her father, Luciano, owned a lively seaside bar beloved by locals and visitors alike. It was no surprise considering how charismatic, loud, and affectionate he is. Her mother, Maria, a respected hotel manager on the island. She made people feel important and carried a level of grace, love, and emotional intelligence.
Her home life was full of noise and warmth. There was always music playing somewhere, food in the kitchen, and laughter right around the corner. Sofia grew up around the comfort of people and learned the joy of making people feel welcome and seen. By the time she was a teen, it seemed like everyone on the island knew her. She had a natural magnetism and a warmth that people felt whenever she was around them. There were plans for her to go on and study, to move to the Amalfi Coast and start a life of her own surrounded by family, tradition, and community. Yet, everything changed.
Her mother died unexpectedly. It shattered her world without warning and obliterated the foundation of who she was and the state of her family forever. For months, she lived in a haze of disbelief. Every part of Capri reminded her of her mother, and it was becoming unbearable. What hurt more, though, was watching what happened to her father. Grief consumed him. The man who once filled the room became unrecognizable. She figured things would improve with time, but it didn't. Arguments became more frequent, the distance grew wider, and she tried every effort to save him: pleading, yelling, crying, cleaning up after his mess, and making excuses in the public's eyes. She carried responsibilities that were never her own, and she came to the devastating realization that she could not save someone who refused to save themselves.
The day after the anniversary of her mother's death, she left the island she loved and cut ties with her father. She moved back to London to continue her schooling, hoping for new opportunities and a change of scenery. Truthfully, she was running. Running from the helplessness she felt had consumed her in trying to keep herself and her father afloat. A job opportunity became available, and she moved to California and lived there for five years working in the luxury guest experience world. Clients adored and trusted her; she knew how to solve a problem with a smile and could talk about anything with anyone. She helped strangers feel at home while still struggling to find one for herself.
It was her maternal family that encouraged her to come back to Capri. They claimed her father was doing better, but she hadn't spoken to the man in years. His friends had reached out on his behalf, but she politely declined their invitation and words of reconciliation. Yet, she longed for Capri. She missed the sea, the lemons, the sound of Italian, and feeling grounded. It may not be what it once was, but she still has the power within herself to reclaim what broke and turn into something beautiful once more. Sofia has no clue what Capri will be now, what it will reveal to her, but she hopes she can heal and start anew. Only time will tell.
