it's not like he'd meant to sneak up on galahad. but huck didn't mind it if he did.

quietly creeping up on the woodsy barbarian, huck didn't say anything until he'd straddled the man's back, legs on either side of him, feet in the warm water. arms resting on the demigod's shoulders. not quite short enough to put his chin on galahad's head, but the energy was there.

"still don't know what to get you for your big day."

he doesn't even make an effort to hide the surprise at the sudden added warmth of limbs settling against him. shoulders tensing for a moment, one hand almost instinctively reaching for the very much not there greataxe he'd taken to swinging around in combat. ready for some threat, only to be greeted by a friendly voice, and the tension ebbed just as quickly as it had arrived.

"Could get something for Oak, he gets through toys on the daily. I don't need anything."

one of the best parts of being on the island is the hot spring, teo's been to one or two in his lifetime, but they pale in comparison to this one. he loves coming here late at night when it's a little less occupied and bringing his vape just to lay back and relax. it's heavenly, and is one of the things that actually makes him feel like he's close to godhood.

he's got his eyes closed, leaning back where he's sat in the water, almost dozing off to sleep when someone joining him stirs him awake. he opens one eye, keeping the other closed, and sees one of the chosen he's seen around, but can't place his name at the moment. he tries to conjure it up in his mind but comes up blank.

teo opens his eyes fully, and sits up to reach behind him for his vape, left on the ground near him, just to the side away from the water.

he holds it up in the air, between two fingers, and turns toward the man who just joined him, "hey! you mind if i smoke?" teo figures he'll try to be polite, even if he really just wants to take a pull regardless.

almost as if the gods themselves can hear his thoughts, the vape slips from his fingers and falls into the water with a little plop. teo is left with his hand hovering in the air, his mouth agape for a second before he groans loudly.

"no! fuck fuck fuck," he whines, reaching down for it, "if this shit gets all fucked up i'm gonna be so tight. i wanted to smoke."

Galahad hadn't even really noticed the company already in there when he'd sunk in to the hot water. Aware of his own relative ability to just... not, frankly, when it come to most of his fellow Chosen. He took his space, made it his own, usually moved around the house without spending too much time with others. Maybe poked his head in when grabbing food, or retrieving Oak whenever he decided he wanted to be social regardless of Galahad's own preferences.

But he at least kept an eye on the other's, so he recognizes Teo. Half way through opening his mouth to say he's fine with it, when the plop of the vape sinking in to the water cut that thought off entirely.

"It- It's fine, if it does work after?" Not quite a sheepish look, but there wasn't exactly a whole lot to offer to the other in terms of fixing the problem, and he'd long since figured out he was mostly only as good as what he offered. Did that drive him to be useful where he could without drawing attention? Yes. Was it a learned response to life prior to all this chosen business? Also yes.

Either way he switched the expression to something consoling.

amid the chaos brought by the life of a newly chosen demigod, napoleon found himself drawn to a measure of soul-searching. the old springs were an old haunt. napoleon used them in the past to nurse hangovers after days of wild merrymaking, but for today, they were a place for him to soak and drown out the cacophony of the world. out of the handful of people that lingered around the place, one face caught his eyes however. “hey, soldier,” he chirped with a wave, grinning down at the other from the lip of the hot spring. napoleon was eager for a soak – dressed only in briefs – and spent no time stepping into the thermal waters. the surface of the water rippled brightly for a moment, greeting the sea born with teals and blues. “came here to unwind? yeah, me too.” he put on a pair of sunglasses and lolled his head back onto the edge of the spring. “there’s been so much tension at the house lately, you can almost taste it.” a laugh left his lips. “you know, i’m a little jealous of you, gally. the social distancing from others, embracing solitude. how do you do it?” it was hard for him to imagine.

Soldier. It was an interesting name tossed his way, but, it wasn't exactly wrong, either. Maybe less about following orders, far too focused on his own objectives in the fray to fully listen to somebody trying to imply they knew better than him, but also a man who knew his real place was in the middle of a fray. Fighting came easily, throwing his weight around and losing himself in a fight was something that came naturally to him.

All the things that involved dealing with people? Less so. People in general, truth be told. He was adjusting as time went on, but that process mostly just involved giving others space because he certainly didn't look for the company.

"Practice makes perfect?" He phrases it like a joke, like some brief pass of the buck to another time and another place. "Never given other people much of a sway over me, helps with the... Not dealing with all that tension."

Despite the evident changes throughout the last few weeks, Galahad hadn't really seen much of a reason not to just... Treat the day as any other. Birthday or not, he was far more inclined to time in the company of the woods than anything else. It was late evening by the time he made it back, which meant time to unwind and just... Relax. Crashing down in the hot springs, eyes closed and letting himself think.

Or, well, the closest thing to thinking he did, which more involved going over what had happened and piece things together in his own way. A hum in his throat, eyes closed, taking in what he could and mostly unaware of his surroundings.

It, thankfully, hadn't taken too much to adjust his schedule to spending more time training. He still rarely stayed put for long, but that had always been his problem to work through. It was so much easier for him to just... Keep going, and going, and going. Help here, work there, train in the time between. A delicate balancing act with years of practice.

"So the hopes of it being quiet feel like they've fallen through." It was a casual comment tossed out as he was finishing up rather... ruthlessly breaking apart a wooden dummy with an axe, letting the energy of rage seep away along with the wooden roots that seemed drawn to him. "Think I underestimated how many fifteen people actually was."

it's only been a few days since the choosing ceremony completed. fifteen demigods out of the thousands on the island, transported onto a new path carved in marble and stained in ichor. chosen. council members. vessels for their parents and still, somehow, their own person.

days and they've already been on a mission and back, talking about the unseelie court, queen mab, and wanting a plan. it seems ridiculous, in some ways, how so much and so little has changed in the span of hours.

casimiro exits his room, the last room marked with two torches—symbols of hecate as she guides those through the crossroads—and makes his way toward the son of demeter's room. he knocks, three quick raps of his knuckles, and stands there. when the door opens, he fixes a gaze on the seasoned warrior, on the son of demeter. "how was it?" he asks, voice plain. "being out on a mission." just for clarification, in case galahad didn't understand the question being asked.

Adjusting. It was a process, Galahad knew that, so he was... Mostly just taking his time going from somebody that typically sought out the comfort of quiet and peaceful, to... Everybody and everything. It wasn't like he was isolating himself, he was just used to being on the move at all times. Something to do, somebody to speak to, some way to offer assistance. Even after being Chosen, that really hadn't changed, it just meant he had further to travel when most of what he did was in the agricultural district and he was located here now.

The knock to the door was unexpected, and met initially with a round of barking, and a muffled 'Oak, be polite' from the other side, before it was pulled open to reveal Galahad, and a squirming mass of golden fur underneath one arm to prevent an immediate tackle. The question almost immediately has a brow raising in question, before the clarifying point was added.

"Loud. Lots of egos clashing, people looking to prove superiority before really having their feet under them, the fight went well enough?" Detached observation came a little too easily to Galahad, taking a moment to continue thinking on it. "Thought I'd have more of an issue swinging at actual creatures, but the threat was established pretty quickly."

at the arm wrapping around him, huck immediately pressed in close. almost tucking in under galahad's shoulder, even if he had to slouch even more to get in there.

"well, I could use a heads up on what she's going to want." not that athena would reach down and tell him first-hand. she'd probably leave it to him to figure out. chances were, strike would, before he did.

"you already seem adjusted to the idea? giving me advice like that."

It's a familiar warmth, at least, the sensation of Huck burrowing in closer against his side as soon as he has his arm wrapped around the other. Idly scratching fingers against the nape of Huck's neck, all while still considering all of it.

"If somebodies gonna be giving out ideas, does seem to be her strong suit?" He was personally just hoping for a neon sign and a 'this way. destiny is this way' but he'd. Take whatever Demeter saw fit to throw his way if anything.

"I got... Pretty good at just going with things? Bend but don't break in a storm."

at least galahad had the decency to catch it. even if it was kinda funny. and well timed.

"don't mind me, I'm just gonna... dance and drum my way into whatever athena needs me to do, I guess?" a much weaker attempt at a joke, that time. "it could've been any of us -- any of them. and she wants me. I don't know what to do with that." his look towards galahad was pleading, but he didn't even know what he was begging for.

Fortunately, or unfortunately depending on the day, almost all of Galahad's humour was entirely unintentional. Comments just... Lined up a little too well whether he meant it or not.

"At least it's a relief knowing you'll be dancing and drumming you way up next to me?" It's at least an attempt at offering some form of comfort, a reminder that he would be up in the middle of the fray with the other while figuring this out. An arm reaching out to wrap around familiar shoulders and squeeze. "Means she see's something in you. Something she wants to help cultivate and grow, something she believes in."

"ha, ha." huck clearly had enough to do with the topic of clashing personalities.

"--do we know why it's so many? do we know why it's us do know why so many of us know each other? " a string of questions, rapidfire -- huck knowing galahad enough that he was sending them out into the air, rather than aiming the barrage at the man himself.

"I just wish I knew what was going on. how to prepare for it."

A beat, measuring the response in his head before "-Oops."

Huck's questions were all incredibly fair and valid. They were also all questions that Galahad had absolutely no way of answering with any kind of certainty, so he settled for not answering with words. Instead, a shift of weight, a shoulder bumping against a shoulder.

"Best way to prepare's probably just... Practicing what we can do, see what needs improving, that sort of thing?"

Nurture their talents, identify where they needed to cover other peoples bases.

wholly, entirely, and utterly, unexpected.

could he hide here? not that strike would want to, but he would want to, and that's what mattered at the moment. all he wanted to do was get somewhere that wasn't a wall of eyes and muttered voices, spotlights seeming, microscopes already picking him apart.

"hoping for quiet..."

and, somehow, it's a friendly face. one of the friendlier faces he's known since he'd gotten here. "--hastings?"

Of all the children of gods wandering around, being picked was... Well if he'd been inclined to bet, Galahad's money would never have been on himself, there was no denying that. But, hey, he had been chosen along with a whole bunch of people and that was an entirely dif-

"The one and only." He offered something close to a reassuring smile as the other registered exactly who had spoken up, his own gaze briefly checking the other over before turning back to their would be home going forward.

"Hopefully it's quiet, but... who knows? Lots of personalities to clash in there."

There was no pretending it wasn't an honour above all others, to be chosen. The number of them felt like it was raising several red flags for whatever was to come, but for Galahad? It was mostly just coming to a revelation that he'd not really thought about up until he'd arrived at the house with a bag thrown over his shoulder and heard the litany of voices coming from within the walls.

...He was going to have to deal with so many more people on a regular basis than he usually did. It wasn't like he actively avoided people per se, it was more that he spent so much of his time working the fields, or repairs around the island, or just generally helping wherever his bulk could actually be put to use that he was pretty much always on the move and largely alo-

"So, think it's going to get louder or calm down with time?"

At least be polite. He'd made his way to the garden after dropping his things off, finding somewhere a little off to the side to just observe the house itself. He could do introductions once everybody had settled in... Or just. Pretend he was a groundskeeper? That could work.
