simbaherrara:
Brows pulling together, Simba surmised that perhaps he hadnât made the best decision when it came to his response, eyes tracking the bob of Sebâs adams apple as his drink was finished off. Shifting his gaze away quickly, the quiet male squirmed slightly in his seat at his best friendâs claim. The coil of something, hot and sickly, in his stomach caused him discomfort and made him want to protest against Sebâs choice but it wasnât his place to tell him what to do or what not to do.    "Iâm not particularly good at dancing. I just think youâd have a better time dancing with someone else,â He voiced, eyes flickering to his best friendâs face. He was never sure what to do with his body, which way to twist or turn it. Being in a sea of other people made him that much more conscious of his body and the things he felt towards his flesh and bones werenât usually good.
Seb nodded, remembering Simbaâs long battle with self esteem. He almost felt like a dick for dragging his best friend here and trying to bring him on the dance floor where several pairs of eyes might attach to him. Sim already knew Seb had trouble with empathy sometimes--add it to the list of reasons Seb was a sub par best friend--but still he found that he wanted to explain himself. He was just trying to get Simba to have some fun, but he forgot that their definitions of âfunâ were entirely different.Â
Stuck in thought, Seb absentmindedly stood up. His gaze was still fixed on the blond across the room. For a moment he debated heeding Simbaâs advice and heading over there, but then he realized that would defeat the whole purpose of the night. Seb brought Simba here so they could spend time together, and thatâs exactly what he wanted to do. So, after a moment of rethinking, Seb plopped down next to Simba and rested his chin on his friendâs shoulder. âWe donât have to dance. Thereâs only a little more than an hour before the ball drops, anyway. We can head out soon if you want,â Seb said before adding, âI am forcing you to stand out in Times Square for the ball drop, though.â

simbaherrara:
"I donât have any resolutions,,â He responded back, ignoring the shiver that raced along his spine at the way his best friend was pressed towards him. âI have enough fun as is.â Although this wasnât particularly true, Sim didnât have a strong desire to actually attempt more fun- figuring he was already at the limit of his threshold to actually enjoy it. To top it off, he didnât see the point in New Years or the fact that people make their resolutions and often not complete them.    Yet, despite his desire to say no way, no how to his best friend no matter what, Simba also wanted the other to enjoy his night. So, despite his strong desire not to surround himself in a mass of bodies, he was considering it. Eyeing the crowded club, the artist pressed his lips together before heaving a sigh. âThere are plenty of people you could go dance with, Seb.â He offered up in a weak attempt to persuade the other from pulling him to the floor. He knew that if he had more resolve around getting close and personal with Seb then maybe this conversation would easily be closed but, alas, that wasnât the case.
Seb had expected to be turned down a second time, but Simba suggesting he go dance with someone else was a bit uncalled for. Would he really rather be left sitting alone in a club than do a little grinding with his best friend? Damn. Ever since Seb had realized he liked Sim a bit more than platonically, things had been a little complicated. Was it supposed to be this difficult to come onto people subtlely? Usually Seb took a more obvious approach, but he was trying to water things down until he got over what ever he felt for Sim.Â
âFine,â Seb raised his eyebrows, sitting up straight for once. He downed the rest of the drink in-hand before speaking again, âIâll leave you to have a nice, depressing night by yourself even though we are in the best place to celebrate New Years Eve. And Iâll go dance with that hot bottle blond over there.â

@alaricsummerfield
This was it. The pearly gates to Heaven were open--Alaric had invited Seb over for dinner and Netflix. In Sebâs opinion, this was first date material. He wasnât sure if Alaric had meant it to be platonic, but he didnât much mind as long as he got to look at that sculpture of a man--and, perhaps, accidentally touch his bicep every now and then. Heâd told Alaric he would pick up the Thai food, so he did. He ordered what Alaric said he wanted and then some, just in case. Because, hey, maybe Seb would stay the night and need some leftovers in the morning.
Knocking on the door, Seb positioned himself in the archway with an elbow against the wall, his feet in a kickstand position. Very cool. âDid you order some take out?â He called as he waited.
[text] I would gladly watch Netflix and eat Thai with you any day.

It was the first day back to classes for Owen, but for once he didnât have to be at work afterwards. It was a fairly nice day outside, at least as nice as it got for Seattle in the winter, and he had decided to head to Washington Park, figuring that it wouldnât be crowded due to the cold, but would still give him something to do outside of his dorm. He hadnât been out very long when a dog came running up to him, leash trailing behind it. âCrap.â he muttered, quickly grabbing the leash of the escaping dog and looking around for anyone else, âHey!â he called as he spotted someone, âIs this your dog? Or ⌠do you know whoâs it is?â
Admittedly, Seb loved to spoil Bug, his tiny dog son. Today, heâd bundled him up in a thick sweater and carried him most of the way to the park. Once there, heâd tied the pug to a bench while he got out his laptop and worked on an article. The next time he looked up, Bug was halfway across the grassy park. Sebâs brow furrowed. Since when could he run that fast? His little heart could give out. Setting the laptop to the side, not bothering to hide it or bring it with--because he was that good of a dog dad--Seb ran after his little pug son. Luckily, someone grabbed Bugâs leash, and Seb let out a sigh of relief when he realized it was Owen. Thank god. âThatâs Bug,â he replied, out of breath as he caught up. âI didnât know he was strong enoguh to get out of his restraints. I mean, look at him. Howâd he do that? Howâd he run all the way over here?â
[text] Why couldnât you just stay out of it?
[3:22pm]: i know we arenât friends, but you should at least know me well enough to not be surprised by this.[3:23pm]: When was the last time i stayed out of anything?[3:23pm]: prepare yourself for this fire article.

After being verbally harassed by a communist hobo, Flint needed to recharge his much needed brain cells, or at least chill out for a second. He was in a rush, and eager to taste some caffeine and maybe punch something with Jae in the near future. But today, he apparently couldnât catch a singular break for his troubles when he was gearing up for a good day, or when he wanted to sit down and rest.
He was halfway out the door when he heard Flores, and he had to sigh to himself internally, because it wasnât socially acceptable for anyone to punch someone in broad daylight for no good reason, as heâd learned after a few trips to jail in his wilder days. ( Sebastian didnât need to know thatâno ammunition given to the enemy was the best strategy today. ) And so, he plastered on a trademarked PR smile, and faced the reported with a smile that said âHello there!â but eyes that said âFuck right off.â
âI am in a rush, really.â Taking a sip of his coffee, he could feel his nerves fraying, still a bit agitated from the conversation that he had with the communist hobo. âDo you really need another slam piece, because if you want it, you can talk to my sister for that,â he said dismissively, heading for the door, âBecause otherwise, I think weâre done here.â
Seb could feel the acid in Flintâs smile. It was rather enthralling, really. Seb always loved getting under Flintâs skin; he couldnât really pinpoint why, but he found it entertaining to watch Flintâs muscles tense every time Seb spoke. Of course, the guy wasnât easy to deal with. Heâd probably always have a bit of the upper hand, but Seb tried not to let it get to him. As long as he made this into a good story, it would be worth it.Â
âOh, no worries,â he stood, joining Flint by his side as he attempted to make a break for it. âIt wonât take long. No need to push all of your problems onto Sabrina, anyway.â
Leading Flint back to the table, he pulled out a chair opposite from where heâd been sitting. âSeriously, itâll only be a minute. Go ahead and take a seat,â Seb followed his own instructions and returned to his spot in the chair, kicking back with his legs crossed. âI was just doing some digging, yâknow, like I always am...and, I dunno, I just found some interesting company expenses from a few months ago.â
noahfensebut:
âYeah, Iâve got family. But I didnât want to leave town and drag any of the Clair drama Iâm toting around to their doorstep.â He didnât particularly hide the fact that heâd been one of the people to experience a blackout. Mostly people didnât comment on it to his face. A couple people had even asked him what heâd seen, but Noah had learned to deal with it just like heâd learned to deal with all the other questions people asked him. He always had his answers ready.
âAnd the reason that youâve never seen my place before,â he said, shutting the door and turning to guide Astian into the small, cramped kitchen. There was a tiny bar that separated it from the living room, with a couple of bar stools placed as out of the way as they could be. âIs because I have two roommates who donât like surprise guests.â Noah pulled up one of the stools so it was on one side of the bar and left the other on the other side for Astian. âActually, itâs more like I donât like subjecting people to them. One of them is like, allergic to wearing pants and the other one keeps leaving his fetish manga on the coffee table.â
The smell of greasy Mexican food was quickly becoming more than his willpower could handle, so Noah started poking around in the box Astian had brought. âBut anyway, tell me about your week. Have you fucked that Lion King dude yet? I canât remember.â
Seb fell quiet at the mention of Clairs. He often forgot that Noah had a fairly public blackout, something he couldnât backtrack on. Even if he had wanted to keep it a secret, he wouldnât have been able to. Seb hated thinking about it that way, about the lack of control. Really, he didnât like anything he couldnât bullshit his way out of. If more people were to find out about Sebâs Clair status, heâd make sure it was of his own accord. At this point, he wasnât sure if he minded if people knew or not--it seemed like such a strange thing to hide away--but he still kept it to himself. Maybe he was saving it for a rainy day.
Noahâs description of his roommates was enough to snap Seb out of it. He laughed, but it really was pretty unfortunate. He hadnât imagined someone like Noah would even have a roommate--let alone two. Now that he was thinking about it, he wasnât sure why he thought always Noah got a livable income from student teaching. Noah was just young, professional, and handled himself well; Seb had always imagined him living in a classy, secluded cottage on the edge of Seattle. Regardless of his shattered illusions, the roommates sounded colorful. âI wanna meet them,â Seb plopped down on the bar stool. âThey sound nasty and Iâm into it.â
Letting go of all of his willpower, Seb dove into the food heâd brought. Shitty Mexican food truly was a gift. He almost choked on a chunk of beef when Noah brought up Simba. Really, he should have expected it. Seb always told Noah way too much about the happenings between him and his best friend, so the question shouldnât have come as a surprise. âUh,â Seb stumbled. âWell, no. Weâre completely platonic, remember? I mean, like, we cuddle and I like to play with his hair...and he likes to draw me...and sometimes we share a bed...and Iâm a little into him. But no fucking yet.â
âOn that subject, though,â Seb took another bite, speaking with his mouth full, âRemember how we were fighting for a while? I finally got him to forgive me. And Iâm taking him to New York for a long weekend.â

âOf course not, Seb. That would be the worst atrocity youâve ever committed. Missing dog day. You say that like itâs even an option.â Jae made sure to implement a highly controversial tone to her voice, making her sound absolutely scandalized as she walked inside. It was warmer, and brightly decorated exactly like every doctorâs office sheâd ever been to which she would have found unnerving if not for the the yips and barks she could hear coming from a back room somewhere.
âYouâre such a gentleman, how are you still single?â She had a wide smile on her face despite her teasing which seriously derailed her attempt to appear serious. The secretary took her name, and told her to wait while they went into the back to grab the keys. Jae took the opportunity to look a little more closely at the small reception area, noting the cork build filled with pictures of people hugging dogs in the very waiting room she was standing in
She tucked her hands into her pockets as she turned to look at him, wondering how serious he was about letting her use his coffee to warm her hands, before decided sheâd probably end up drinking it by accident, and she didnât trust Sebâs choice in coffee that much. âHave you done this before? Adopted a dog, I mean.â
Sebâs mood immediately brightened as they entered the building--not because it was well-lit and warm, but because he could feel the presence of dogs. Everything was better with dogs in the general vicinity. If he was being completely honest, he would have even put off important work interviews for this event--and he wasnât even the one getting the puppy. It just felt important to be here, helping a friend make the right decision when it came to such a pivotal life event.
In response to her teasing, Seb accidentally let a laugh escape his lips. Heâd probably never admit it to her, but her teasing was always entertaining. He liked people who challenged him when he said stupid shit because, admittedly, he said stupid shit a lot. âIâm not sure, actually,â he said another stupid thing, âI guess Seattle guys donât know a catch when they see one.â
Taking a sip from his coffee--dark roast with two sugars--Seb made an effort to check out the waiting area. For the most part, he didnât even comprehend what he was seeing; he was too eager to see the dogs waiting for them beyond the waiting room. âYeah,â he answered, âI mean--once. Recently. But I picked out the best dog, so youâve found the right person for the job.â

He wasnât sure exactly why he decided to go along with Seb to New York- it wasnât like he needed to go along. ( Perhaps itâs because he wanted to stay with his best friend then. What a dangerous thing. ) He had spent enough time away from Seb in any case and he actually had places in New York he had wanted to go. Plus, getting away from Seattle for a few days ( and all of the Clairvoyant mess that was there ) was nice.    It being New Years Eve didnât mean much to Simba. It wasnât as though he was looking forward to- or interested in a new year. ( He also could feel his gut tightening as the weeks past, growing closer and closer to the dreaded date he foresaw when the first wave of Clairvoyants emerged. ) Yet he stilled allowed himself to be pulled out into the crowds that were electrified and celebrating the coming new year. As Seb drank away, Simba was content to people watch and take a few long, studying looks at his companion as the night slipped around them.     âJust this once?â He responded, raising his voice more than he usually would so that Seb could hear his reply. âYou say this but if I say yes there will definitely be a next time with you.â
Seb frowned defeatedly, because Simba had a point. Somehow he felt as though his best friend knew him a little too well. It was so much easier to convince people of things when he remained dishonest in his relationships--but heâd never even tried to seem like a more bearable person around Simba.
After a moment, Seb let out an audible groan, acting disgruntled as though Simba hadnât been spot on. If Sim gave an inch, Seb would take a mile--thatâs just what he did. Despite all of this, Seb continued trying to convince him. âItâs New Years, Sim, câmon,â Seb whined directly into his ear, âdonât you have a resolution to have more fun this year? Because if you donât, you should.â

@flintchae
Tireless weeks of writing--and for what? Seb hadnât gotten a good story since the riots began. He was beginning to think that his article featuring Rhita was the peak of his career, and now he was attempting to gain control as it raced downhill. His brother told him to calm down, that itâd only been a couple weeks and he couldnât base anything off of a couple weeks--and didnât he expect this when he decided to be a journalist?Â
Calm down? Seb scoffed. His career was in ruins, and people wanted him to calm down? Desperate to get published, heâd spent the last couple of nights leafing through his endless collection of notes, researching every one of his ideas until he could find a lead. Several sleepless nights and here he was, still left with too many ideas and too little outlines. So, in true Sebastian fashion, heâd retreated to a coffee shop to write as much as he could.Â
Three coffees deep, and Sebâs idea finally came to him. Well--not to him, technically speaking, but it walked into the coffee shop. Flint Chae. Now there was a story. Maybe his research would be worth it after all.
Seb watched Flint as he waited in line and ordered, sitting pretty and patient for the moment he could step in. He was desperate, of course, but he couldnât let Flint know he was desperate. When Flint passed his table on the way out, Seb gestured toward him with faux surprise, as if he hadnât expected to see him walking by. âFlint,â he flashed him a smile, hoping his facade was friendly enough for Flint to fall for it. âYou in a rush, or do you have a moment?â
