Being genderqueer isn’t about being androgynous. Its not about being masculine if you have a female body, and its not about being feminine if you have a male body. Non-binary people are not more legitimate if we pass for either gender. I’m genderqueer. And gender policing doesn’t just stop at telling women to be feminine and men to be masculine, it also applies to agendered people being told they are too much something or another! Some of us take hormones, some of us get surgery, some of us feel comfortable in the bodies we’re born with. Some of us wear pretty dresses and some of us wear baggy hoodies.
Don’t assume someone’s gender. And don’t tell them what their gender “really” is. That’s not your choice. It’s each person’s individual experience of who they are.
Much love to my genderqueer, non-binary, agendered, etc, friends!
Reposting this from my art account, because I’m a genderqueer artist and shaman.
