#ConfusingWords time! 女孩儿 （or 女孩子）vs 女儿？

Are you also confused like me about Chinese words for woman, man, girl, boy, daughter and son? Let's figure it out together! 女人，女性，女子, 妇女 are all translated as "woman", but they are in fact different. 女性 means "female". So when you use it, be aware that it refers to one's sex. For example, 女性主义（feminism）and 女性是未来。（Future is female.) 女人 means "woman", but it can also refer to women as a group. You can also use 女人家 to include all women. For example, 你们女人家总是这样！（You women are always like this!). 女子 is used to indicate that something is related to women. I think this is best clarified with examples. 女子足球队（woman's football team)，女子网球（woman's tennis), 女子单打比赛（woman's singles competition) 妇女 also refers to "woman" in the most general sense. However, because of 妇 character, it is more of a "married woman" than just woman. 女孩，女孩子，女孩儿 all mean "girl". 女儿，on the other hand means "daughter". 男人，男性，男子 are all translated to English as "man". As with the words for women, they have their differences. However, don't worry, it's similar to the usage of 女人，女性 and 女子. 男性 refers to the male sex. 男人 is the most commonly used to describe a "man", such as 勤奋的男人（hardworking man). Similar to 女人家，you can also say 男人家 to refer to all men. How do you think we can use 男子? Such as men's basketball(男子篮球), men's volleyball team(男子排球队) and men's doubles(男子双打). 男孩，男孩子 and 男孩儿 all mean "boy", whereas 儿子 is used for "son". How about when we don't want to be specific about the gender of the person we are talking about or we are talking about more than one person? 人 ：person; human 人们 ： people 人民 ： the people (of a country) 人类 ： humanity (human race） 人家 ：others, everyone except the speaker and the hearer 别人 ： other people 有人 ： someone 每个人、大家、人人 ：everyone 各人 ：each person

Today marks the 5th year of Sewol tragedy. My heart is with the people of South Korea. Although sad and heartbreaking it is, the way people reacted after the accident and how they asked for justice should stand as an example for all other nations.
