DC Group Roleplay (5 and Counting!)

The Watchtower orbited the blue planet, protecting it and its 7 billion inhabitants from dangers ranging from villain cartels to wars to even cosmic level threats.

At first the weight of the world rested on 7 extraordinary superheroes. But over time the Justice League expanded into hundreds of long time heroes and fresh new faces who want to protect the world.

However, it’s been oddly quiet...

There’s been a strange overall decline in major attacks across the world and no sign of a coordinated plot by some mastermind.

One day, Wonder Woman receives an invitation to meet the leaders of Gorilla City, an isolated and hidden advances civilization. As the representative of the Amazons, she plans to go on a diplomatic mission.

Of course, while she politely says she doesn’t require any support, she is obliged to take a few couple Leaguers along in case things go awry. Besides, maybe they can learn a thing or two about Amazonian diplomacy.

Unbeknownst to her and the Justice League, strings are being pulled from the shadows that threaten to radically transform world that we know.

Hey there.

Me and my friend (her nickname being Zetsumei-San) want to start a rather decent sized group roleplay of the Justice League. We both grew up on the shows, esp. Justice League Unlimited, and she and I planned out a long term action adventure story that we’d love to play out with others.

We haven’t exactly set in stone who we’d want to play though she already picked Wonder Woman and I probably will play the main villain, maybe occasionally a supporting character to help move the story along.

We highly welcome people playing existing characters OR OCs. Totally up to you. We want to give your characters character arcs too so you’ll have some sort of agency and growth. We’ll try to find a way to merge it into the plot.

For some actions/decisions, either me or Zetsumei will roll a dice to see if you’re successful or not. We didn’t want to go the whole stats route because (I personally suck at numbers XD ) we want the story to flow and such.

As for what platform, we would prefer if we could group rp this on Google Docs since it’s easy to edit and collab on.

I listened to a strategy and tactics games podcast called Three Moves Ahead and they did an episode on why they aren’t fans of Infinity Engine Real Time with Pause games (ep called “To Infinity Engine and Beyond”). Their arguments are that you aren’t exactly just playing one character with fleshed out abilities like in TTRPGs but playing up to 4-6 individual characters each with their own many abilities. Think you’d love to hear more of their arguments but your thoughts on too much player micro?

I’m on a phone, so my response will be a little on the brief side. In brief, I agree. The IE games came out when RTSs were popular and most AD&D character classes (martial ones, specifically) had relatively basic options in combat. 3E started to give more classes more things to do and 4E continued that trend in a different way.

There are several reasons for this, but part of it is that if you’re playing a fighter or rogue (for example) as your main character, it can feel boring from round to round — more so in tabletop than CRPG, but the idea is similar.

As characters gained more meaningful options, they demanded more attention from the player. This is one of the reasons why Pillars I & II lean more heavily on slowing combat down and improving feedback.

We’re also in a time when RTSs are more of a niche market, so the microing skill set is less common among players than 20 years ago.

RTwP games can be a lot of fun, but I personally prefer turn-based.

Yeah, they believe that later DnD editions also made every class far more fleshed out to make them more interesting instead of the wizard mostly having the wide array of abilities.

I know Pillars 2 introduced Tactics, which Dragon Age Origins and others have too to make combat less micro intensive. Though I haven’t been able to buy Pillars 2 yet (currently in the Thai army, will be discharged at the end of this month tho, hopefully in time for the Steam Sale :D )

Personally, I prefer Real Time games such as RTS (Company of Heroes 2 is my top 3 and most played game, I believe) as opposed to Turn Based (in general I prefer the ‘flow’ of real time combat in most games and I find it more ‘immersive’) but I do see the issue with managing 4-6 characters in Real Time w/ Pause. Yet  I’m seeing more modern RPGs  where you play as one character with no companions, party management or tactics at all like in the Witcher the Souls games and others trying to make Souls games. I don’t think many think of the real time with pause combat system in Dragon Age Inquisition as being something noteworthy, with the character, choices, and writing taking up the spotlight.

Whatever Obsidian is working on next, I hope the combat system will be in real time with companions to manage. At the very least, like Mass Effect where you could order your companions into cover and trigger abilities when needed. I would be more than fine with an ARPG-style Obsidian game on a AA or AAA scale.

Yes, obesity is a serious issue and I’m concerned about her health too but just simply just banning them from everything they enjoy is not going to fucking automatically improve on their weight! Try to at least encourage someone and try to take the time to watch them grow!

As much as I don’t like how society or the body positivity movement ignores health issues, I REALLY cannot stand people body shaming to make people feel bad about themselves just to lose weight! Your just making them not want to do shit at all!

I’m so fucking done. Sorry, it’s just there’s these people I know and doesn’t understand the process of exercise and how it works.

Tbh, I’ve been body shamed in my life and I know others who have had it worse than me. Including my little sister who was pushed to being bulimic because people kept talking about her weight :(

And i wish body shamers would try to understand people who may or may not be comfortable about their weight, instead of freaking antagonizing and demonizing them. It may be genetic, it might be depression, they might not have time or opportunity to work out, maybe they dont have access to healthier food,  maybe they’re proud to be that way.

It’s frustrating and I feel the worst for those who are abused and bullied about their weight.

I *really* hope your friend pulls through :)

Let’s just say, it was Robert Smith’s birthday (he’s the vocalist of The Cure, one of my favorite gothic rock bands <3) and he just turned 57. It’s so odd that his birthday was also the day Prince had died and at age 57 too.O__O Aww man, another talented musician gone :( I hope Robert Smith can still live… So many good musicians are dying this year.

But anyways, I wanted to draw these two with one of my favorite songs from the band.

You know when you feel good to study for exams and get prepared to get a good grade and how you get told form others on when the test is…..

I wish what my teacher told me was an April Fool’s Prank… I really did, but he was serious.

If you ask its History II, and I can’t believe I was so careless to even double check with him! Thankfully, I’m passing with a B in the class…. BUT I just never done this shit before.

I mean, I’m not the best at tests but I still try and study so I can be ready to take them.

I literally started crying and panicking when I heard it was today. He gives others time to study before we take the test, but the thing is… I NEED AT LEAST MORE THAN ONE DAY TO STUDY BECAUSE I AM A SLOW LEARNER.

He didn’t seem harsh about it when I told him the truth, he’s going to talk to me about it after class.

Even if I knew it was Friday, this week was a very bad week to study things due to work and my sister being ill and I had to get other shit done for my other classes.

Wish me luck you guys, I REALLY don’t want to fail college at all.

What? Why are you targeting LGBT people? You make it sound like straight people are harassed and are the victims. You do know that straight people were never murdered by governments and mobs, bullied, and face everyday abuse BECAUSE they were straight. 

You know why people quote unquote “complain” about wanting more LGBT relationships in media? Because they want representation. They want to have a voice, an idol or just characters they can relate to because 99.99% of media is still straight where they either ignore gay relationships, censor them, or make fun of them

Please try to understand people’s views first. Ask why they would think and want that. And maybe even imagine you being a minority and watching (for example)  a cartoon where it’s  all strong men and some shy girls who are weak. Wouldnt you want to also make a post about wanting strong women characters? And imagine if everyone else told you to stop complaining.

That’s why minorities post stuff like that.

EDIT: And no, it’s not “Oh, they complain about straight relationships but also are the same because they like their own ships”. It’s not just WHO and WHO. But the gender and sexuality of the relationship too. It matters because i bet straight people would be turned off if Wander AND Sylvia were both men. Less people would ship that. I think you wouldnt ship that too.

Does anyone know why WOY never was as popular as GF, MLP, SU, or other shows?

With the cancellation of WOY, I like to wonder if WOY had possessed a large enough fandom like Gravity Falls with reaching over a million in views per new episode, would WOY have been given a Season 3.

Is it because Disney XD isn’t popular? But Gravity Falls got over a million views and was offered a 3rd Season which the creator refused. Star Wars Rebels gets about 700-800,000 views, which is a couple hundred thousands more than WOY but Frank Angones said the ratings WOY was getting was great.

Is it because there was no season arc in the beginning of the show? Personally I prefer Season 1 because i think the story arc hurts WOY more while S1 was full of surprises and not bounded by some badly written story arc. But is it possible that it didnt draw in the fans needed to increase the viewership like what GF got?

Animation is in a really dark place right now isn’t it?

Shows like Steven Universe or Wander over Yonder are either being cancelled or thrown into endless hiatus’ while absolute garbage like Teen Titans Go are constantly putting out new episodes with no break in the slightest

‘Adult’ animation has become an absolute joke with Mcfarlen-style humor cornering the market and now we’re getting a food orgy movie.

Established properties like Powerpuff Girls are given horrible treatment and the bare minimum of effort in order to get it out as fast as possible and ‘cut and paste’ style on the rise

Shows like Spongebob and Fairly Odd Parents have been dragged out way beyond their time despite it being obvious they ran out of ideas years ago (Thank god Gravity Falls ended on it’s own terms)

Storytelling is practically dead at this point because it ‘doesn’t sell’ (Despite the fact we grew up with shows like Batman, Gargoyles, The Marvel series, ect)

It feels like everyone has just sort of…given up

What do you mean by shows like SU or WOY? SU isn’t getting cancelled, Adventure Time isn’t getting cancelled, Archer and Venture Bros arent getting cancelled. You know what gets cancelled? DISNEY cartoons. Cartoon Network nowadays keeps their shows going.
