Welcome to the Second Circus! We hope you enjoy the performance. Before we begin, I have a few pieces of information to share with you.

This comic will be posted roughly 4-6 pages at a time on Mondays biweekly.

Vol. 1 is fully drawn and ready to post. Though I've already started work on Vol. 2, I can't guarantee it will be finished by the time I've run out of Vol. 1 pages, so there may be a hiatus between volumes.

wow sorry for the unannounced hiatus! graduation + the holidays + some life stuff meant I didn’t have the brain space to deal with uploading comic pages. now that things are settling down again, however, I should have an update posted tomorrow!

so that was a lie and I forgot again. I don’t want to post the new chapter during the global strike for palestine so I’m planning on posting the next update on the 29th. thank you all for your patience! post-grad lack of schedule and adhd are a bad combination

For generations, Katya’s family has owned and operated the Moondrop Carnival, an old-school traveling circus. Katya, like her ancestors, has a secret: the ability to travel between their world and another, a magical fey realm home to the Second Circus. For years the two circuses have existed in harmony, but now Katya’s mother—who does not believe the Second Circus exists—wishes to sell the Carnival and settle down in time for Katya to attend high school.

I hope your kitten is okay and I hope you've been looking after yourself as well on your busy days!

Thank you! She should be okay - we were worried about intestinal blockage because they couldn’t get her to throw up and she’s barely been eating all week, although other than that she’s acting completely normal. HOWEVER, I discovered tonight that she WILL eat if the food has fish in it, so I think maybe she just gave herself a tummy ache and then decided to be picky because she is Spoiled. We go back to the vet tomorrow to just make sure everything’s okay but the fact that I finally got her to eat something has made me feel a lot better.

Stress tends to disrupt all of my self care routines (building in time to cook, going to sleep on time, etc) so I’ve not been at my Best this week but I think we’ve gotten over the worst of it and I have all of next week off so. Things will be better. I’m also a lot less stressed now that it’s looking like I probably won’t need to pay for a $3000 endoscopy for my cat lmao

Hey sorry this week’s update is a little late! My kitten got into the trash over the weekend and ate something she shouldn’t have so I’ve been dealing with a combination of vet visits and my own physical therapy appointments while also trying to juggle projects for class. The next few pages SHOULD be posted sometime this evening.

Today's pre-launch concept art is a double feature: the moms, Irina and Acherontia! I ended up not liking Irina's design very much, so as you'll see shortly it is a bit different in the comic. Acherontia was designed mid-comic rather than in pre-writing, which is why she doesn't have an official turnaround.

Some more concept work in preparation for launch. Today, we have my initial concepts for the Second Circus' deuteragonist, Fern!

In preparation for the comic launch, I'll be posting some concept work I did before I started working on it in earnest! First off, our vol. 1 protagonist, Katya! I ended up simplifying her design a little bit while drawing the actual comic but she was pretty clear in my head from the beginning.

Very excited to announce that I will begin uploads of the Second Circus as a webcomic shortly, right here on this blog! All pages of vol. 1 are completed and I’m beginning work on vol. 2 in the next couple weeks. Follow for updates and please make yourself comfortable in preparation for the show to begin! (Also, if you're in the Richmond area, I will be selling physical copies at RICE on November 12 and hopefully will have limited stock available at Velocity Comics sometime after that!)

About the Second Circus:

For years the two circuses have existed in harmony, but now Katya’s mother—who does not believe the Second Circus exists—wishes to sell the Carnival and settle down in time for Katya to attend high school.

The Second Circus is a coming-of-age story about parents and children and the baggage that can unwittingly be conveyed from one generation to the next. It is also a story about magic and wonder and a rebuttal of the idea that growing up has to mean leaving these things behind.
