Me externally: “ Yeah aren’t you proud of me! “

Me internally:

Laugh moment for the day.

Me: clutching my side in pain.

Student: “Oh no are you pregnant?!”

Me : (thinking about how I should respond and realizing I can’t say “ it takes two to tango”) says it anyway.

Student: what?

Other student: She needs to be married to have a baby and she doesn’t even have a boyfriend.

This week I voluntarily put on a mask so students couldn’t see my facial expressions when they say something that makes me wanna go …

Being a teacher…

What should happen: I should take my mental health days and not feel guilty about them.

What actually happens: I have a student tear up my classroom for 3 hours with no one coming to relieve me, my supervisor asking me what to do ( Ummm that’s your job) , and this child is hitting me and throwing things at me and I am supposed to walk out of a situation like that, where I had no support and be expected to continue to teach my kids for the remainder of the day and the next day. Knowing that if I take a mental health day I will never hear the end of it.

Being a teacher…

What should happen: I should allow my students the time they need to process their emotions.

What actually happens: Because of the critical mass of my classroom that child’s anxiety gets worse and suddenly there are two kids crying on the floor another screaming at the top of their lungs.

Being a teacher….

What should happen: Everyday I walk into school having to let go of the day before and start anew.

What actually happens: Every morning I cry on my way to work because of the lack of support. Then I walk into the building and welcome my kids while a part of me is still processing the day before.

Me: Went into school today. Told my principal and EC director that I needed to take it easy per doctors orders for my COVID recovery .

Them: Here is the child with the most behavior issues. You get him for his specials time so no you don’t get your planning period.

Me: ……. ( What did I just say)

I had a child come up to me and hug me and say “ you’re a great teacher!” . Great way to boost the negative going on right now

i love being tight with teachers because you get to hear them talk shit about other teachers its so funny they all act like highschoolers except they get paid
