simon had pulled clary and i away, talking about wanting to leave and take us with him. i knew he was very suspicious of everyone and everything. i mean, all of it sounded every strange. “ simon, there are demons out there, okay? actual demons with tentacles that wanna murder us. do you know how to kill a demon? ” clary asked.
“ i’m an internet search away ” simon shot back. isabelle walked passed us, a smirk present on her face. “ simon, i really don’t think it’s that simple ” i commented, his eyes turning towards me. clary nodded in agreement. isabelle had unlocked the stash of weapons.
it was full of blades, axes, and other weapons you could kill a demon with. “ fifty bucks says he doesn’t approve this mission ” isabelle commented. most likely talking about alec, he agreed to it, that doesn’t mean he approves of it. right on time, alec came towards us, pissed.
the first thing he said was, “ i don’t approve of this mission ” i let out a smile laugh. alec’s eyes turned towards me. “ i spoke with the clave, they’re sending seelie scouts to search for valentine, but they made it clear the little girl and charlotte does not leave the premises ” he glanced towards clary.
she was pretty pissed. jace and isabelle agreed with clary, we needed answers before valentine finds the cup. “ alright, since you have all the answers, where do you suggest we start? ” alec turned to clary. “ we can start at dot’s apartment ” i spoke up as clary nodded. i grabbed onto clary’s hand. “ and there’s this thrift store that she… ” clary began to say.
she was clenching her necklace when she gasped. it was glowing purple, then mental flashes came to me. it was dot running to the club, the one from the night before. “ what’s wrong, what is it? ” jace asked worriedly. clary and i saw the same thing. “ weirdly, we think we know where dot is ” clary let go of my hand.
“ great, i’ll drive. what? unless you have, like, a shadowhunter-mobile or something ” simon commented, pulling out his keys. alec was looking at simon like he was an idiot, isabelle just let out a small laugh. “ you were kidding about the runes on the floor killing me….right? ” asked nervously.
jace looked isabelle, then alec, then me. his attention turned towards simon. “ possibly ” he patted the back of simon’s neck and walked off. alec followed after him, “ wait….am i going to die? ” he asked isabelle quietly.
we had arrived at the club, clary and i were walking in front. she was worried for dot and it was understandable . dot was the few people that clary trusted now. she clenched her necklace again, grabbing onto my hand. we both saw the same thing, a man standing over dot with a blade in his hand.
“ dot ! ” clary screamed, running towards entrance. i followed after her and i could hear jace behind us. “ charlotte ! clary ! ” he shouted. “ stop ! where are you going ” he caught up to us both. however, i stopped running.
something was wrong, i could feel something very off. i got lost in my thoughts, because before i knew it clary had taken off inside of the club. everyone else followed after her. “ charlotte ! ” alec called for me, probably noticing i wasn’t following them inside.
“ its not safe here, we go back to the institute, right now ” alec commented. fear washed over me, i wonder what valentine would do to dot. she helped clary get away and helped jocelyn. “ what about my memories? they can’t just be gone? and lottie’s memories, they must be somewhere ” clary brought up that point.
someone had to have my memories, maybe it was the same one who took clary’s memories. “ there is another option ” jace mentioned, my eyes turned towards him. isabelle and alec both protested against this option. “ i’m not afraid of the silent brothers ” jace commented.
“ who are the silent brothers? ” i asked, what was so bad about them that alec and isabelle both protested against it. “ shadowhunters with superior powers ” jace responded. “ who possess the ablity to recover memories ” isabelle mentioned. “ a process that can also kill you, so there’s that ” alec finished.
of course, alec had throw that in there. “ your bedside manners is abysmal ” simon commented. making alec throw him a glare. “ we’ve broken at least 18 clave rules and now you want to go the city of bones? there’s no way, i won’t allow it. ” alec turned his attention towards jace.
“ this isn’t our choice to make. this is clary and charlotte’s decision.” jace stated. “ you can’t ask them to do this. they don’t know what they’re facing. they aren’t prepared ” isabelle mentioned. alec’s eyes turning towards me. they softened a bit and whispered something towards jace.
i wondered what he told jace. “ if anyone can tell me another way to recover our memories and still get the answers we need, i’m listening ” clary spoke up. everyone was silent, “ that settles it ” clary finished after no one had any more ideas. “ see, i told you she’s one of us ” jace smirked a little.
“ charlotte, you in? ” isabelle glanced at me. it scare me, being somewhere unknown, especially when alec and isabelle were against the idea. i did need to know the truth. why did my parents keep this a secret the whole time? was my neighboor apart of keeping this a secret? “ i’m in ” i nodded.
we had reached the city of bones, jace helped clary out of the van and alec helped me out. i was surprised that alec was actually helping me. “ yeah, this place isn’t creepy. not at all. ” simon commented, coming from the drivers side. “ don’t tell me your afraid ” isabelle teased.
simon scoffed, “ are you kidding me? i was born afraid….which sounded a lot better in my head ” he commented. isabelle let out a laugh. “ let’s check it out ” alec turned to jace, who nodded. clary and i were about to follow, but jace held out his hand for us to stay.
“ wait here a minute. i wanna see if it’s safe ” jace turned to us both. we nodded and linked arms together. isabelle followed after the boys and simon joined us. “ why are we doing this? ” he whispered towards us both. “ we don’t even know these people ” he continued.
“ i just wished my mom had trusted me enough to tell about all this ” clary turned to simon. i nodded in agreement. “ me too, it makes me wonder who knew about this stuff before we did ” i commented, sighing. clary and simon continued to speak on the matter.
i still felt something wrong, my eyes glanced up at the trees. “ clary, come on, it’s all clear ” jace called out to her. his hand out for her to take. she did and simon looked defeated, poor guy. he has the biggest crush on her and she’s falling for someone else, right in front of him.
“ charlotte, come on ” alec called for me. i patted simon’s shoulder and ran up to him. after a couple of minutes of walking and alec’s silence, we reached the entrance. “ are you ready? ” clary turned to me and smiled. i nodded, i was so glad to have her here.
clary and i were ready to walk in together, so was simon. “ alright, hold up. surprise, surprise. no mundanes allowed, just like in the training room, right? wrong! i’ve seen every horror movie ever made and the funny best friend who gets left behind..dead man ” simon commented.
isabelle started to laugh. “ you’re not that funny. of course, the minute you enter, you’ll die. but by all means, go ahead ” jace shot back. i giggled a little. “ problem is, now i don’t trust you ” simon answered. “ he’s not lying ” alec stepped forward. “ now, he was before ” isabelle smiled.
“ the rune energy in the city of bones will kill any mundane who dares to enter, so…please ” alec continued. isabelle sighed, “ the brothers creep me out. i’ll mind the mundane. ” she stepped forward with a flirty smile. “ your sacrifice is noted, izzy ” jace commented and headed for the entrance.
i was having second thoughts about doing this. i knew i needed my memories, but it seemed like clary needed them more than me. “ clary, you go ahead, i’ll find away to get my memories back. yours is more important ” i smiled at her. “ are you sure? you need to get them back as well ” clary looked worried and i nodded. “ get your memories, find your mother ” i pulled her into a hug. alec mentioned something about minding the perimeter. “ charlotte, are you coming? ” alec called out to me. i smiled once more at jace and clary, before running to join him.
“ you sure seem to call me a lot, i thought you hated me ” i mentioned to alec. he didn’t spare a glance to me. “ i don’t hate having you with me ” he responded. a smile appeared on my face. in true alec fashion, he didn’t say how he felt, but i knew it meant he was warming up to me. “ i knew you liked me! ” i stated happily. alec had a straight face on, his facial expression never changed. “ i didn’t say that ” he didn’t bother to spare me a glance. i was going to respond, but i accidentally lost my footing and almost fell.
a pair of hands wrapped around my waist, catching me before i could hit the ground. my cheeks had gone red when i realized it was alec’s hands were wrapped around my waist. “ i don’t want to babysit you, watch where you’re going ” alec’s voice was low. damn, this man was hot. i shook the thoughts out of my mind. “ sorry ” i coughed. he helped me up and continued to walk around the area. his blade was ready for an attack, if it were to happen. my attention snapped towards the trees.
there it was again. the feeling i couldn’t shake. someone or something was watching us. “ charlotte, what is it? ” alec took notice of me. “ something is wrong, someone is watching us ” i whispered, pointing up to the trees. he grabbed an arrow and looked upward, it was just pitch darkness. “ i don’t see anything ” he whispered. alec grabbed my arm and pulled me behind him. my heart was beating faster, who was it?
“ there is someone, i can’t tell who is it, but i know someone else is here ” i commented. alec put away his bow and grabbed my hand. tugging me with him. “ we’re heading back towards the entrance, we can get everyone and leave ” he responded. my cheeks had gone even more red. i was looking like tomato because of him. i don’t think he knew what he was doing to me, how he was making me feel.
