I found an old blog I used to write on when I was a teen, and the year after David Bowie died, I wrote a little piece in tribute in which I'd said something like “there's comfort in the fact that even though Bowie was a fixture of my time on earth and it's amazing that we were alive at the same time, I never knew him, physically. And so the fact that he was never alive to me in that way means that he can never die to me, his essense is etched in every record groove he has influenced, every interview, every one of his bold life philosophies I incorporate into my own life. David Bowie will live forever.”

I'm slightly paraphrasing and am a slightly more practiced music writer now, but I'd forgotten that, 9 years on, and I'm glad to be reminded of it. Glad to be reminded of what the mindset was 10 years ago for me because I was so right. Going back to this.
