my half marathon journey
Training in the heat
Where I live...summer is serious, so I've been making sure to get my sports drink in. Training during the week has been shorter than desired sometimes, but I've been trying to work hard even if I don't have much time. My internship isn't a set-in-stone schedule so I've been having to work around it!
New blog post over at my wordpress blog!

go on and read it! It's got a yummy food picture with recipe included!!
37 years ago we lost the greatest runner EVER. No one will have as much heart as Steve. PRE LIVES.
NEW blog
I've decided to create a wordpress blog to chronicle my journey to the Athens Half, SO if you wanna be a cool kid and check it out go to www.carsondemille.wordpress.com
Working it out
SO here is my workouts of the week so far. I won't be able to really workout on friday or saturday due to a conference, this will be my last day of working out this week AND I'll be pushing my longish run to sunday. Luckily, sunday I'll still be 19 weeks out of my half marathon, so I don't have to worry toooooo much yet!
1. Sunday: I ran 4 miles (28:34)
2. Monday: 30 min NTC body remix in the morning and 40 minute hill workout
3. Tuesday: 5 mile run (36:54)
4. Wednesday: 15 min NTC butt buster & 40 min fartlek workout
5. Thursday (TODAY): planning on a 4-6 mile run & 15min NTC Ab workout
Spring Semester
Spring semester got so so so so crazy, so that's why this blog has been dormant FOREVER. HOWEVER, I finally have time to update my running life. I've done a few races since I last updated. I did a few 5Ks where I won some age group awards and I won an overall. I also did an 8 mile race in the cold pouring rain (SO wasn't ready for that....it was supposed to be heating up by then here) and won overall female. It was a super super small race, but everyone there was so upbeat and friendly despite the crazy weather conditions. THE MOST IMPORTANT THING is that I signed up for my first official half marathon...The Athens Half. I couldn't be more EXCITED and NERVOUS! Luckily I have about 20 weeks until then. On the downside I'm having to make my comeback after a week of vacay. I ran a 5K on the beach everyday except the day at universal where I walked for HOURS. HOWEVER, I also ate like a pig. Sometimes we all need the time to pig out and cheat. Vacation, thanksgiving, and christmas are my big cheating times. So until Thanksgiving, it's back to business!!
AGAIN, sorry
I have run a few races since I last posted. Most notably in Feb I ran another 15K (PR by a minute) and today I PR'd my official 10K by a lot. I say official because I PR'd my 10Ks during my 15Ks. Today I ran 47:51 for my 10K and my best official 10K was 52..something, but during my 15Ks I ran 48..somethings! YAY!
Sorry, sorry, sorry, sorrrrry
Haven't posted in forever. IN my defense it's been crazy. Also, there's not a lot to report besides my regular training. Speaking of that....my quads are killing me at this moment afer my fartleks today!!!!! Anyway I have a 10K next weekend. Actually I registered for both the 7K and the 3K at one event so it's not a straight up 10K. It will be weird.
Official Results
Hot Chocolate 15K conquered!
I ran 1:13:32 which was slightly faster than goal pace. I wanted to run 8min/mile and I ran 7:54min/mile! I was 4th out of 72 in my age group (SO CLOSE), 128th out of 5700something women, and 320something overall! I am too lazy to go look up those exact numbers again haha. I'm just really happy, but my race high is crashing unfortunately. In other news, I consumed my first hamburger and fries meal in MONTHS. It was delicious, but I now know I can live without that kind of food. Making it a treat is much more rewarding anyway. PLUS my parents, who both did the 5K race, went on and on about how much more toned and "slender" I look. It's funny what muscle does because in reality I've only lost 5lbs (since I started eating better). I wasn't overweight before, but it's good to see healthy results to due to my eating changes. It's important to remember that exercise can change you, but eating right really rounds it out!
Race Time
This is it! I'm headed to ATL tomorrow and the Hot Chocolate 15K is Sunday!
FREAKING OUT
The Hot Chocolate 15K is THIS COMING SUNDAY. I am absolutely FREAKING out!!! It's going to be so much fun, but I'm also really nervous!!! On top of that stress I also have my terrible testing schedule for the semester to worry about. UGH.

Dean Karnazes, Run! (via irun4fun321)
long time, no post
SO here is the run down since my last race:
1. There was a serious lull in training due to torrential downpour. Seriously. Lots of strength training though.
2. They are destroying the public running trail I use at home to build a gym. WHY MUST YOU DESTROY THE TRAIL? boo hiss
3. HOT CHOCOLATE 15K is in a little over a week. Jan 13th to be exact. OH EM GEE. Longest distance raced to date. I've run several longer runs in preparation, but I'm nervous. Especially because the week before, I'll be returning to college and my sensitive stomach has a hard time adjusting to straight dining hall food.
4. I was doing 15K long run recently at a comfortable pace by feel. When I calculated my actual pace later, it was 2 seconds FASTER than my goal pace for the race. WEEEE. Anyway, I signed up for an 8 minute/mile pace for the race. I've been running 5Ks around a 6:45 mile/min (that breakthrough came post registration), so I think I'm actually set to do a little bit better.
Jingle All The Way 4 miler
WELL that's it! My last race of 2012 and it was awesome. I came in first female in the four mile race with a time of 28:30. It was so much fun! This race was the end of an annual series, and since we've upped our racing game, we went ahead and registered for the series this year. Actually this race was number 1 in the series. Registering within 72 hours makes sure we get points from this race. I'm excited for the year ahead. Looks like I've got a 10K coming up on January 5th (hopefully) AND the hot chocolate 15K on the 13th. It's gonna be a busy and incredible year of racing for sure!
