⌈ Icarus Blessed M y t h i c Mortal Taken ⌋
Like other mythic mortals, Icarus is a case of the dead being brought back to life by the power of The Veil. Unlike the others though he does not seem to have learnt much from his first try, and continues to make the same mistake which led to his untimely death. Falling after refusing to listen to his fathers advice taught him nothing beyond the need to use a stronger adhesive in the future.
He is rich and celebrated in the new realm as Icarus did not choose to hide his gifts of innovation and intelligence. Unlike others who would try to keep them a secret. He is the mastermind behind many great technological advancements and has an important place in one of the more successful technology companies. However this has meant he is a more than easy target to track down, and given the recent events in The Glades Icarus has become fearful for his own well being.
Keeping himself apart from the chaos of The Glades and the adventures of the newly banded together mortals was a choice he was content with. Though Pandora found her way to him, just as curious and answer-seeking as he is, the pair ceased further pursuits to find others. Despite getting her a job as his secretary he does not see her as someone riding on his coattails and together they decided it best to try and stay removed from The Glades for as long as possible.
Though it didn’t mean he didn’t try to keep up to date with the more important events over the years, keeping an eye on the others who crossed over became nothing short of an obsession in his life. With the more recent events hitting closer to home than his pride would allow him to admit, he has moved himself closer to the Gods hoping that by staying near to the pack he will not be the next to get picked off.
[ + Passionate ] It is the reason for his success in the new realm, just as it is the reason for his end in his former life. Icarus has always had a passionate fire burning in his heart, making him work hard, get carried away easily and be excited even about the little things. Unfortunately, this enthusiasm often gets mistaken for foolishness.
[ - Reckless ] Hands in hands with passion comes a certain recklessness. Icarus is known for forgetting the world around him, when he puts his attention to something. Any advice given and any consequences which could possibly emerge from his doings get successfully ignored.
[ + Creative ] Many times the world wonders whether Icarus is brilliant or insane. Those who know him can confirm he probably is both. It is the key to his creativity and how he comes up with inventions. If he wasn’t at least a little bit insane he would never imagine his constructions and if he wasn’t brilliant, they wouldn’t work.
[ - Easily Frustrated ] What do you mean his innovation isn’t immediately working? What do you mean his advancement isn’t flawless? Of course, Daedalus has taught his son that creating takes time and patience, but Icarus doesn’t have either of it. Everything’s supposed to work instantly and if it doesn’t then it might just get destroyed again.
[ + Ambitious ] His own death should’ve taught him that the sky is the limit, but it only made Icarus more eager to go beyond it, aim higher and higher because in reality there is no limit. He has come back from the dead once and he promised himself it wouldn’t be for nothing. He’d reach the stars this time.
[ - Paranoid ] Maybe it’s because he died a tragic death once already, maybe it’s just his normal survival instinct, but whatever it is, Icarus is driven by a paranoia. He feels the weight of life and death on his shoulders like he once felt the wings, and he’d rather look over his shoulder and check for the hundredth time that he’s secure than die again.
[ Scars of the Past ] On first glance, Icarus seems to almost have forgotten about his own death. He hasn’t learned much from it, does still step over the edges wherever he can and is as careless of consequences as ever. But despite the few undoubtedly wrong morals he has taken from his own story, he has literal scars reminding him of his first life’s end. His back is graced with the light marks, still showing how the melted wax seared his flesh.
[ Daedalus’s Legacy ] When Icarus and Daedalus are mentioned, it is always the wise elder with the insouciant son. However, what the legends forgot, he was brilliant like his father. Most of his knowledge Icarus has achieved through his father. The only reason why he can advance technology the way he does is because Daedalus taught him how. Icarus still looks up to his father, but there’s one thing Daedalus wasn’t able to master - Functioning Wings. Seeing the new technologies Icarus has set his goal and secretly tries to build wings which will take him as close to the sun as he wishes to be without melting.
[ The Fall of Icarus ] Upon entering the new realm, Icarus was truly shocked to hear what story his death had been written into. His name was linked with hubris, his being called too arrogant to listen to his father’s advice, his story used to show pride and it’s punishment. He was the example for everyone how not to be. It displeased Icarus greatly. Everyone remembers he fell into his own death, but everyone forgets Icarus also flew.
[ Athena ] Athena is perhaps his favourite Goddess, his patron and the one he most closely identifies with. Intelligence and wit are held in high regards for him, and through his actions in the new realm he hopes to have impressed her. His lack of care in hiding who he is will no doubt be a source of scorning from the Goddess, but he hopes despite this she will allow him to stay in The Glades rather than end up another body.
[ Hephaestus ] Now if there was a God he ever admired, it was Hephaestus. The God of blacksmiths and craftsmen was someone he looked up to ever since he was a young boy with ambitions to build the next greatest thing. Of course the dream of one day being able to step into the infamous forge and work alongside the God are now dashed, but there is still a childlike excitement about meeting his hero.
[ Hercules ] Icarus is determined to show not every hero has to have muscles to succeed. A typical clash of brains vs. brawns is ongoing from the moment he laid eyes on Hercules in the new realm - even if the demigod himself doesn’t realise it is happening. The one-sided, mental grudge match Icarus burdens himself with is the driving force behind his need to show just how clever he is, despite never actually having spoken to him before.
[ Pandora ] The two share a curious nature, wanting to poke and prod and understand the nature of everything. Where she has learnt from her experience, and exercises caution moving forward, he does not. The pair will often bicker over which course of action to take, however the important thing is that they always discuss things with each other first.
