When I get mad, I cry. I hate that.
I threw a Pop Tart party at work today. It was awesome.
So yeah. I'm not going to stress about posting here every day. Lately I just haven't been into it - the posting, not the actual assignments or whatever you want to call them. I'm still making sure I spend time being creative and working on doing nice things for others, but posting about it all the time is getting a bit tedious/embarrassing. Ugh, I don't know... I guess I'll keep going with it but just be more relaxed, casual, whatever. Maybe I'll get back into the groove eventually.
Things I should've done tonight but didn't
clean my apartment
work on my paper
go to bed early
return my library books
something/anything productive
For my act of kindness, I'm working on writing a letter to a friend to let her know how much I appreciate her friendship. I'm going to use paper that I made and I'm going to actually write it by hand, so it's taking some time to get it just right. I'm excited to send it, although it feels a little strange - I don't think it's ever a bad thing to let someone know that they've made a difference in you life, is it?
We had to have small group discussions in class tonight, which I hate, but I did it. I've also been making a point to be more active in class, sharing my thoughts, answering/asking questions, etc. There's no way I'm going to lose points when in comes to class participation LOL
Procrastination
I procrastinate. It's an artform, really, requiring lots of skill and practice, and I've had PLENTY of practice. I was so excited to take this class - you'd think, as I'd thought, that I'd be more diligent about doing assigned readings and working on projects in a timely fashion. But no. Here I am, at 12:25am - class less than 24 hours away - just getting started on the assignment that was given to us three weeks ago. Not only that, but I've just decided that I'm going to need to make some major changes (we had to submit three ethical dilemmas about a month ago and I'm going to revise two of mine because they're just not going to work going forward). I could say that it's because I was sick last week but I know that's not true. SERIOUSLY, WHY AM I EVEN TYPING THIS RIGHT NOW? I need to get back to work...
Last week was all about fun, followed by me being sick, so not much got done here. Well, at least I paid the bills and did my laundry... However, I did not do my homework yet, which means I'll be up working on it all night.
TV shows that I own on DVD
House, MD (all)
Lost (all)
Arrested Development (all)
Scrubs (5 seasons)
M*A*S*H (4 seasons, had all on VHS)**
Anything But Love (all that's available, which isn't enough!)
Moonlighting (2 seasons)
Breaking Bad (3 seasons)
Ally McBeal (4 seasons)
The Young Ones (all)
Fawlty Towers (all)
Friends (just ordered 6 seasons)
Will & Grace (all but one season)
Family Ties (first season only)
The Waltons (first season only)
Dr. Katz (all)
Aqua Teen Hunger Force (2 seasons)
Strangely missing from this list: Seinfeld, Silver Spoons, Laverne & Shirley, Brady Bunch, Degrassi (the original), Party of Five, ER.
**Interesting side note: I love M*A*S*H and was, in fact, rather obsessed with it at one point. However, I have never seen the finale, because - honestly - I don't think I can handle it LOL I've cried at every series finale I've ever seen, whether I was invested in the show or not, and the M*A*S*H finale would crush me, I'm sure!
Also, the TV show that made me cry the hardest was ER...
(SPOILER ALERT)
Whoa. I've missed a few days... But I'm back! And I've been making paper!
While waiting for Josh Ritter to take the stage last night, my sister and I tried to figure out how many times I've seen him live. The first time I saw him, he was the opening act for Jamie Cullum in September of 2006. If our count is correct, last night was my eighteenth time. And I'm going to see him again tonight. Nineteen shows in seven and a half years might seem a little excessive, but you have no idea how happy this guy and his music makes me. I've met him a few times, and he's seriously one of the nicest people I've ever spoken to. I remember when my sister gave him a birthday card my little nephew had made, how (during the conversation that followed) he carefully folded it up and tucked it in the inside pocket of his coat, like it was something he wanted to protect. Or that time when I was bald from chemo and he made a point to ask me how I was feeling, and how he's asked me that several times since then. He's just a super-nice guy, and I'm excited to see him again tonight.
Five concerts over a six day span... No time for being responsible!
Songs they played at the Paul SImon / Sting show that I didn't dare hope for but they played anyway:
Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard!
Obvious Child!
America!
Graceland!
The Boxer!
I'm just about done with that hat for one of my nephews, then I'm moving on to attempt #2 at a slouch beanie for another nephew. But really, I'm mostly excited about a new craft/hobby that I'll be trying out when the stuff arrives in the mail. More to come...
I spent over an hour trying to learn how to play "Never Going Back Again" and this is what it did to my fingers. I couldn't even straighten them out for the photo!
Another week without noteworthy acts of kindness, although there were some unsuccessful attempts LOL I continued to search for some scrapbook paper that a friend of mine wants. I also tried to get some donuts to surprise a different friend but these particular donuts are only made occasionally and only on the weekends (we work together and only see each other during the work week). Oh well.
I *did* treat my sister and nephews to Smashburger, although I'm not sure that should count since I definitely benefited from that outing!
I didn't do much to meet new people this week. I did, however, work on communicating with people at work. I've always been the type to lead by example and just get (silently) frustrated when people don't follow. I'd like to be more vocal and discuss things before they get out of hand, and I think I did well this week.
I also had a conversation with the girl who was working the counter at Blick tonight. I don't like asking questions and revealing that I clearly don't know what I'm talking about (I *hate* looking/feeling stupid) but I went out on a limb tonight and learned something. Imagine that.
