Alice was enjoying a rare day off. They didn’t come that often, and she really didn’t like taking her days off. She felt like she might miss out on some action, and if something big did happen, she’d feel guilty for not being there. Of course, she knew that Moody would pull her in if needed. But today was an actual day off. She was looking forward to having a bit of relax. Maybe she’d go and have a little shopping trip later. That would be nice.

She was heading to get a coffee though. She enjoyed caffeine, and was planning on drinking her coffee, and people watching. That was another thing she liked doing. She blinked though, as she nearly got hit by a pen. She looked around, and then just laughed as she spotted Marlene walking up to her. “You know there are easier ways to get my attention Marls”

she lets out a sigh of relief to see that alice isn’t harmed. the last thing she ever wants to do is hurt any of the people she cares about. she can’t help but to laugh at her words, though. “i thought it was the best way to do it. you know, the best idea always comes randomly.” she’s shaking her head though, and then nods back to her table. “you want to sit down and keep me company?”

It had been a long day. With the brewing war in the back of everyone’s minds, tension at the auror office was quite high at all times. Amelia had to admit that even she didn’t know exactly who to trust and who to keep at an arm’s length. The ministry seemed to be a great mixture of those on the one side and those on the other. Mixed in with a bunch of people who didn’t really care about either side too much. Obviously the Bones name was quite a familiar one to many in the wizarding world, which didn’t necessarily made her life at the ministry easier for her. Completely drowned in her thoughts, Amelia walked into the tea shop, only to be shaken from her thoughts by a flying pen. A soft, slightly nervous chuckle slipped her lips as she noticed who the culprit behind it was. “You know, if you don’t like me all that much, you can just say so.” Amelia teased her friend. “Do you really think a pen can do more harm than any basic quidditch practice could? I’ve seen worse, trust me.”

marlene can’t help but to let out a snort of a laugh at amelia’s words. “please, you already know what i’d do to you if i didn’t like you,” she says, and then quickly grabs the pen off of the ground. she’s then nodding her head over towards the table she’s at. “do you want to sit down and keep me company while i try and stop myself from losing my mind?” she’s grinning at amelia, glad that she’s okay and that her friend is here.

how the leaky was already this busy early in the morning should no longer be a surprise. lily recognised some patrons from the other night; a pair of wizards who had most likely stayed the night, too intoxicated to apparate home the night before, a group of witches who already came in for breakfast, a large group of kids eager for their visit to diagon alley. in the midst of it all lily evans was trying to escape, waving to tom behind the bar smiling brightly until the air was pushed out of her lungs and she found herself on the ground. “are we counting my pride?” lily retorted, throwing her head back to glance up at the blonde before gripping the edge of the table to steady herself as she rose to her feet. the redhead winced lightly, rubbing her hand across her backside and she directed a pout in marlene’s direction before it morphed into a slight smile, “i’m fine, really,” she insisted, warmth spilling into her demeanor as she reached out to wrap a reassuring hand around marlene’s wrist, fingers slipping down to hold the other girl’s hand and give it a light squeeze. “it was my fault too, i wasn’t looking what i was going, tunnel vision becomes a real thing after the night shift and you only want your bed, trust me,” lily chuckled. “you however, my dear, are far too stressed about something if your tunnel vision is this bad,” she gestured to the table, taking a seat, “spill, marlene.”

“we can count your pride if you’re not physically hurt.” she gives a small smile to her friend, grasping her elbow as the redhead gets up. marlene squeezes lily’s hand back as soon as their hands are connected and she holds onto it, glad for her friend. the physical contact and being able to talk to someone she cares about already is helping her. she follows lily to the table, keeping their hands together as she sits. “it’s work,” she says with a slight laugh. “what else is new, right?” she shakes her head and sighs. “it’s this think piece that i decided to pick up for a paper. about why i think people are drawn to quidditch and such. it’s easier to talk about the happenings and why i like things, not why i think other people like it. the words aren’t really coming to me and it’s just bloody frustrating,” she explains, and lets out another sigh as she finishes. she already starts to feel better, and she’s thankful for lily.

Usually Remus tried to avoid the more popular stores in Diagon Alley when looking for employment. There was nothing quite like the quiet judgement and unasked questions when one of his old schoolmates ran into him, former prefect and diligent student with the OWLs and NEWTs to prove it, working in some shop dusting and restocking shelves. So he found himself in an odds and ends shop tucked into an alcove. It didn’t seem to have any particular specialty like many of the other businesses, but Remus supposed that was what kept the clientele so regular. Always friends of the owner or a handful of younger witches and wizards who had been visiting the shop since they were children with their parents.

He was nearing the end of his shift though, and didn’t mind the quiet. It would be nice if he could go the last while without any interruptions. And then the sound of the bell at the door drew Remus from his thoughts, and he cursed and hurried to finish restocking a wall of differently colored rolls of parchment. “Just a second,” he called. “Looking for anything in particular?” Dusting his hands on his robes, he walked to peer over the railing of the second floor loft to the individual below.

marlene was bored. and a bored marlene was never a good idea. so she had decided to go into shops at diagon alley and explore. it would keep her out of trouble and maybe she would find something interesting to buy. the idea is what lead her to the shop she’s stepping into now, eyes wide with curiosity as she glances around. she doesn’t think she’s stepped into this shop before, with the way it was hidden. her mother usually dragged her to the higher end shops and it’s been a while since she’s been exploring around diagon alley. her head swivels in the direction when she hears a voice and it takes her a second to place it. “not really,” she answers, a huge smile spreading across her face as she steps to where she heard the voice. “i was just looking around and exploring. wasn’t expecting to see anyone i knew, honestly,” she explains, and steps closer to remus. “anything interesting in here?”

a sigh leaves her lips as she sits at the table, eyebrows furrowed. she’s been trying to write this piece for a few days now, but the words aren’t coming to her. she’s just glad she has the time to actually sit down and write it and not have it be a super time sensitive piece like most of her reports are. normally the words come easy to her, as reporting on her favorite thing in the world is easy to do, but when she has to sit down and write about other things, it’s not as easy. she runs her fingers through her hair, and starts to twirl her quill in her hand, staring down at the paper in front of her. well, she more like glares at the paper, wondering if she should just crumple it up and throw it away and start all over again. so... that’s what the aims to do. expect her hands seem to have a will of their own. her hand that was twirling the pen doesn’t seem to cooperate with her when she tells it to put it down and the pen goes flying from her fingers, going right towards a person who was walking right by her table. a gasp leaves marlene’s lips and she’s quickly standing up to walk over to the person. “merlin i am so sorry, i didn’t throw that at you on purpose, i swear!” she’s sure her face is as red as a tomato by now, embarrassed at what had just happened. “you’re not hurt, right?”

( sydney sweeney. ciswoman. she/her. ) MARLENE MCKINNON was last seen leaving diagon alley. i remember the 21 year old from school, i think they were a RAVENCLAW. but now they’re working as a QUIDDITCH REPORTER. when people see them they say they’re reminded of ripped jeans and patches on denim jackets, a shot of firewhiskey down your throat, loud carefree laughter, the wind running through your hair, and the feeling of sneaking out at night. it’s probably because their loyalties lie with the ORDER OF THE PHOENIX.
