For these you will need nail polish, top coat, either a plastic baggie or parchment paper, a toothpick or small brush, and a small metal ring (mine is from this set, but you can also use a small jump ring from a jewelry supply/craft store). Start by painting your nails with whatever background polish or design you want— I used a simple floral design for my original bondage nails, and I’ve got a tutorial on that in the works if you want to recreate the full look.
1. Lay your plastic baggie or parchment paper flat on your work surface. Using the nail polish color you want for your straps (black here), paint a medium-sized rectangle on the paper/plastic. Let it dry completely (this may take a few hours).
2. Once the polish is dry, carefully peel off the rectangle in one piece. Use a pair of scissors to cut it into strips of approximately equal thickness. I cut a bunch extra because some always end up wonky.
3. Gently bend the end of one of the strips and insert it through the ring. This is kind of like threading a needle and always takes me a few tries.
4. Put a dab of topcoat on the end of the strip and use a toothpick or brush to tamp it closed.
5. Repeat this process with two more strips.
6. Brush topcoat on the back side of your ring and straps, and apply it to your nail, arranging the straps evenly.
7. Cut the extra ends off the straps and seal them in with topcoat. For the other nails, you can arrange more strips however you like (you can also just paint on more straps, freehand or using tape guidelines).
