some of the rhetoric I’ve seen around false accusations is like.....clearly built around the idea that people on the receiving end of false accusations are not worthy of consideration and not meaningfully harmed as a result. you get the sense that most people are picturing the falsely accused as white male athletes attending elite colleges, wearing polos and salmon-colored shorts.

while the vast majority of abuse/sexual assault accusations are legitimate, false accusations can be a powerful weapon for abusers, stalkers, and racists. their victims are not an irrelevant footnote.
