*1 (If I get past the night on the Galactic Railroad) - this is actually a reference to Kenji Miyazawa's children's novel, Night on the Galactic Railroad. there are also other references in the song. it's actually a good read, and the song also makes a lot more sense w/ that in mind, considering it has a lot of metaphors abt it

*2 (by the pillar of light) - also another reference to the novel. i assume that this has double meanings? it's depicted as a pillar of light, but a 'tenkirin no hashira' is also a pillar with a wheel attached to it found near graveyards that supposedly let people communicate to the dead. note that the train in the Galaxy Station (from the book) is also implied to transport people to the afterlife.

* (Even now, I'm still looking for it) - the way the lyrics in this part is arranged implies that in the past, both of them looked for it. However, now, only the singer is left searching for it.

idk. i personally interpret as a person spending christmas/the holidays while also grieving over a lost loved one. They also reminisce about searching for that 'Galaxy Station' in the novel, thinking the other person must have probably already found it (a.k.a. they died and took that train to the afterlife). They still hope that finding that station and taking the 'Galactic Railroad' is a way they could be reunited.
