Before the Journey

Goku eventually drifted off to sleep, feeling much more calm and relaxed with Sanzo. He actually felt protected more than anything else. Breathing in Sanzo’s scent, caused his little heart to stop pumping too fast. As he drifted to sleep, he had faint images of a man with flowing long golden hair, much like Sanzo’s. He also saw a boy around his age smiling at him, with a mouth full of raspberries. Goku smiled in his sleep and clung to Sanzo, burrowing his head into Sanzo’s chest and curling into the older man’s warmth. 

Surprisingly, Goku managed to not kick Sanzo in the stomach during the night, and no nightmares arose during the night (not that he’d examine that too closely yet), so Sanzo actually got some sleep. 

Of course, that didn’t mean that things continued to go smoothly.

“SANZO!”

The door slammed open, several monks milling in the doorway, all speaking at once as Sanzo startles awake, shoving Goku over so he can reach for his gun under the pillow—stopping with it halfway drawn out as he blearily recognizes the monks.

Hadn’t he told them not to come into his room!? 

“There’s an emerg—” “Sanz—” “Fire!”

He can’t fucking hear them when they’re all shouting at once.

Goku was finally sleeping soundly when he was abruptly awoken to shouts and screams and was roughly pushed aside. Not even fully awake yet, his subconscious started to panic, creating his heart to beat faster and his breathing to quicken. The monks were still shouting but Goku couldn't comprehend what was going on. It was almost like he was in a state of shock. That was when it got all to much causing him to scream out, his golden diadem breaking to pieces.

The transformation of the Seiten Tasei started taking place, causing immense pain for Goku's body and mind. He was so overwhelmed with pain and fear that his other self took over, causing everything to go black for Goku.

The Seiten Taisei slowly sat up, his mane of hair obscuring his face. He could hear voices but wasn't paying attention to them. All he paid attention to was his energy growing inside him. It was awhile since he was last released and he relished in his physical body. Slowly sitting up, he cast his gaze to the man next to him, cat like eyes glaring.

The Seiten Taisei took the bowl in his hands, his claws having a hard time holding the smooth surface of the ceramic bowl. He licked the sweet cream from the bowl, not taking the spoon. He at first was surprised by how cold it was and got a bit of a brain freeze. His face scrunched up and he groaned a bit but then eyed the god carefully before continuing to lick the ice cream straight from the bowl.

A small chuckle escaped him as amused eye watched the child handle the ceramic bowl and proceeded to lick the dessert, foregoing the provided utensil. And the expected brain freeze had Zenon widely grinning. “Ah, so what do you think? Delicious, right?” Grabbing himself a relatively small bowl and spoon, the ginger began to feed himself.

The small Sage continued to lick the ice cream despite his brain freeze, while keeping an watchful eye on the god. After finishing the whole bowl he got up and walked towards the other and climbed into his lap. He now had easy access to lick the god's ice cream, finishing it off as well.

—Hakkai nervously stared long and hard at the heretic, obviously alarmed by the fact that Seiten Taisei was walking freely without his golden diadem, and that… he was talking— wait… what. 

“…What kind of view are you speaking about?” The healer replied, his brow raising up in question, quite curious right now.

The Seiten Taisei growled and started his attack, ignoring the chi that the other started to ignite. He ran full speed at the other demon and raised his claws before saying, “Well let’s see if that’s such a good idea, keeping them on. And don’t worry, i don’t take you lightly, your true self that is. Like I said I remember our fight.” After that he yelled and ran at the other, aiming for the chest.

—Anxiety builds up, brows furrowed together, and lips curled downwards, frowning more at the situation he was in. Hakkai was thrown into a difficult, dangerous situation; one that he won’t be able to win without removing his limiters, something that the Seiten Taisei wanted. It’s very obvious. 

Chi emits from between his palms, getting larger as he waited for the moment. Yet his mind had an avalanche of thoughts, overwhelming him, most of them were ‘ Don’t do it ’. ‘ You won’t hit him ’. ‘ He’ll get you. He’s stronger; stronger than you will ever be. Compare your strength to his, he’ll surpass you with no problem. The… limiters, drop them and I could… at least have enough strength to defend myself. No. it’s stupid. That’s what he WANTS. That’s his intention; for you to take the limiters off and to show your true self. ’

He can’t risk it. So the chi stops abruptly; hands hesitant before creating a chi shield to defend himself from the heretic. “…I remember it too… As I… do recall you getting knocked out by lightening, thanks to a quick plan of mine!” He says between quick breaths as he prepared himself for the hit on the shield, knowing that the heretic will strike it as the shield was in the way of his chest. “Keep… doing this and you might have to be forced to wear that golden diadem again!”

The Seiten Taisei was quick with his attacks and defenses against the other demon. When the other remarked about how he got struck by lightning the last time they fought, the Sage growled and slashed his claw at the other. Blood on on his claws, the Seiten Taisei licked his claws hungrily and then prepared himself for his next attack as the other was saying some nonsense about wearing the diadem again. No way would he wear the diadem again!

At that moment, the heavens opened up and the merciful goddess floated down in a stream of light, appearing before Hakkai. She smiled at him and pointed to the Seiten Taisei who was frozen in time and wouldn’t hurt any of them at the present time.

“Hello there! We have some talking to do!” She smirked.

The sage looks at the monk in curiosity. He did smell very familiar.

“…..Goku??”

The small heretic growled when the other spoke. Revealing his fangs, he growled at the man as a warning. He did look and smell familiar, but the Sage was still careful not to lower his guard.

Goku stopped crying immediately when Sanzo told him to stop. He was actually quiet surprised Sanzo even let him in his bed and even faced him! It was a very nice feeling to be so up close to Sanzo, he felt very protected and safe. Big golden eyes looked into violet ones. “Thank you….” he said embarrassed, turning his face away, cheek’s slightly pink.

“Hn.” Sanzo’s eyes close. “Just go to sleep.” 

Sanzo focuses on releasing built up tension and relaxing back into the mattress, and finds he’s not as tense as he expected (what with a monkey jumping on him and crying and all). He doesn’t try to reason through that yet though. He doesn’t want to. And he’s tired, so very tired.

“Always so troublesome… .” he thinks sleepily. Or maybe he murmured it. He’s not sure, actually.

Goku calmed down when Sanzo started circling his back. It made him feel a lot better. He nuzzled deeper into Sanzo’s chest, picking off Sanzo’s signature scent, sandalwood and cigarettes.

“mmm..sssorryy Sanzo…” Goku mumbled into Sanzo’s chest, his small voice hard to hear. Another flash of lighting and roll of thunder erupt outside, causing Goku to whimper a bit and cuddle deeper into Sanzo. A small tear fell from his eye landing on Sanzo’s lap.

“ ‘Tch.”

This monkey is too much trouble.

Sanzo was about to yell at him again (he’s heavy damnit) when the tear fell.

“Alright, alright,” Sanzo grumbles, awkwardly smoothing a couple more circles over Goku’s back. “Just…don’t cry, idiot.”

As gently as he’s capable of, which, admittedly, isn’t the most gentle, Sanzo eases Goku off of him and onto the mattress, then settles down and pulls the covers back over them both in one smooth movement. He’d like to just turn his back to the other and just do his best to ignore him, but…the damn idiot.

Sanzo turns on his side and faces Goku instead.

The small heretic growled a bit when his hair was ruffled and then looked up at the god as he lit a cigarette. When the god started walking away, he ran to catch up with the much larger man. He was very curious as to what this ice cream was. “icceesu kkrem.” He said quietly to himself trying to sound out the words and copy what the god said.

The small growl from the child earlier barely alarmed the ginger, having been use to dealing with such things as Heaven’s Assassin. Hearing the kid attempting to repeat the words was a bit cute, resulting in a visible smirk from Zenon. “You almost got it,” he said over his shoulder while rummaging through the freezer. The servants nearby kept their distance, which the god promptly ignored. 

Moments later, Zenon offered a bowl of chocolate chip ice cream to Seiten Taisei. “This here is ice cream.”

Goku was tossing and turning in the uncomfortable bed he currently slept in from the shabby hotel. The ikkou had finally stopped at a small town for a place to eat and sleep, but still the hotel wasn’t anything near 5 stars. Fidgeting with his blanket again, Goku growled in annoyance and threw the itchy fleece thing off of him. His stomach growled in protest so he decided to go search for some food for a midnight snack. 

The small heretic quietly made his way out of his room and into the dark hallway of the hotel, searching for the kitchen, hoping there was something he could find to nibble on and praying he didn’t wake anyone else up.

Gojyo was sprawled out on the bed, clearly it was not made for somebody of his height. He could barely sleep! It even would be bad for him to have a lady over because the bed doesn’t look like it’s made to have two people. That, and it wouldn’t hold if he had a lady over. Gojyo heard a bed creak and sat up on the bed. Who the hell is up at this hour? Groaning, he got off the bed and walked to the door. Opening it he noticed Goku was in the hall he sighed.

“What the hell are you doing up?” he asked in a hushed voice. Last thing he’d want is to wake up Hakkai and Sanzo.

Goku jumped in surprise from the sudden voice. He groaned in annoyance when he realized it was just a grumpy Gojyo. “I’m hungry! And it’s one of your business stupid kappa!” He yelled rather loudly.

Of course, as usual Goku was listening to his stomach instead of his brain. Hearing the yell, Gojyo made a huffing sigh. It was way too early to wake up Hakkai and Sanzo, plus he rather not have to deal with the grumpy monk nor does he want to deal with Hakkai. Hakkai can be rather scary when he’s woken up early. “Keep your voice down, stupid monkey! If you’re hungry, wait for breakfast!” hissed Gojyo quietly.

Goku growled in annoyance. “You are the one being loud! And if Im hungry then im gonna go eat!” He whispered loudly, proving his point that he wasn’t the one being loud. With that he turned and stormed off into the kitchen, grumbling about how stupid and loud the kappa was.
