hecka lot of development under cut
It’s Saturday — about noon. What is your character typically doing at that time? Give details. If they’re frolicking through a forest, how are they frolicking? If they’re defeating the bad guys (or the good guys), which person are they fighting and what moves are they using?
In a word or two: Saturdays suck. Instead of doing, oh, hmm- anything else, which would be infinitely more pleasant, Alana's stuck with the rest of her sisters in concert practice. Hours of arias, scales ripping their throats into shreds, endless repetitions of choreography. It's so horrible Alana has to take the hour's lunch break to sleep and recuperate.
Triton thinks she and her sisters aren't much good for anything but entertaining the kingdom until coronation (although Alana, being the self-important "victim" she tends to believe she is, usually construes it as only her being affected). Assholian, yes, very much so, but he thinks it's the right thing. Keeps them out of trouble, as far as he can see.
Everyone grows up as time passes. Beliefs and opinions of the world change; you’re never the same person you once were. Your character is no different. Contrast the beliefs, opinions, and priorities of the world that your character had when they were younger, compared to the beliefs, priorities, and opinions they hold now. Why have these opinions changed? Did anything specific cause the change, or was it merely a matter of “growing up”?
Growing up, Alana was pretty much naive and nothing else. She trusted everyone and everything. Dogs wouldn't bite her, she wouldn't have an allergic reaction to pepper (despite having to carry an Epi-Pen everywhere), and being a princess only meant concerts and dresses and tiaras.
Then Athena died and everything just kind of went to shit. If it weren't for Sebastian watching out for the sisters, they would probably have been half-starved and dirtier than sewer rats. Triton just wasn't able to parent them alone.
Hell, he couldn't rule the kingdom without Athena. Things got much stricter and stiffer. You'll remember the infamous music ban. That changed things for Alana pretty damn quickly. If her father was able to rip away the things she loved like that- changing him from a loving man who only intended to help and nurture his daughters to a cruel ruler who didn't care any more for them than he did any other citizens of Atlantica- then what was to say that nobody else could change?
Where does your character see themselves in five years? Ten? What about 30? What are some of their long term goals? Can they be achieved in their lifetime, or are they more along the lines of fantasy? What is the one thing your character would want to or could accomplish in their life that would make everything worth it in the end? If your character were to die tomorrow, would they have any unfinished business?
Goals? You want to talk goals? We're not talking goals. Alana's goals are her own, thank you very much. If she told people what they were, they'd call her crazy or try to help and make things that much worse. She'd much rather deal with whatever's on her plate by herself.
(Okay, here's what's up: Alana wants to see herself in the human world by the time she's thirty. Crazy and stupid and insane, but she's doing it. If she could just get the nerve to talk to that sea witch, she'd be on her way. Unfortunately, she's never been known for her courage, least of all when it's something that's widely disapproved of. As far as she can tell, it's fantasy, dream-fueled bullshit that'll never ever happen. But still, if she dies without doing it, she'll die unfulfilled. Alana's stupid and wishy-washy like that. Unmotivated.)
Does your character have any unusual habits or dominant personality traits that are evident to others? If so, describe them and how your character acquired them, as well as when they might be more noticeable and what causes them? Is your character aware of these habits?
Alana is by far the least-motivated of my muses. She knows what she wants, sure, but she's basically unwilling to get it for herself. And if you could have just one conversation with her, you'd know how guilty of this she is.
Procrastination aside, Alana concentrates her nervous energy in her hands. She wrings them, cracks them, taps them, does anything to keep her from jumping out of her seat and running and screaming. Nobody really knows when that started, but everyone sees her doing it except her. Although she does know her hands are the least-maintained part of her body (which bothers her; they should be pretty damn easy to keep nice).
Food is an important part of everyone’s lives. From culture to personal favorites, all of us can easily say we know what foods we like. Describe your character’s food pallet. What do they have for their three meals a day, typically? What sort of foods are they’re favorite? In the way of snacks, what do they prefer? Do they eat healthy on a regular basis, or unhealthy? Be as specific as you can!
Alana is not the healthiest of eaters. You could call her a trend-follower in cuisine. She'll eat basically anything, if it's in at the moment. Kale was popular for a while, as was all-red meat, then no red meat, then no meat at all.
Technically speaking, the food she eats isn't all that bad. Actually, they're the height of health when she gets into them. But she doesn't stick with diets, so her stomach never really gets used to a particular pallet. Instead, it deals with cramps and aches as she adjusts her regime.
At the very least, you can count on her to always go for low-calorie kelp stew. She likes that all the time.
Many people are waiting to find their Prince or Princess Charming; the person that fits them like a glass slipper. What is it that your character looks for in a potential partner? How closely do you believe they will stick to their idea of a “perfect partner?” Or are they not looking for anyone at all? Be specific- you can even include lovey-dovey daydreams if you wish!
Ready to hear something insane? Alana thinks nobody's into her. She knows she's pretty, and she knows people recognize that, but Alana is absolutely certain that nobody's really intrigued as to who she is.
As a result, Alana will take anyone. Seriously, do you have a penis and breath in your lungs? Get down on one knee and she'll meet you at the altar. It's unhealthy and sure to cause problems later on, but Alana has what I've previously called an Anna complex- if you show a sign of interest, she'll show you one more.
