Selene had not found herself crossing paths with the woman who had ended her life since she had been brought back. Perhaps she had wanted to remain unaware of the other’s presence. Then it would be easier to deal with the problem at hand. She would have been naive to think that would last forever though. Her eyes caught Medusa’s across the room, a burning sensation reaching the back of her throat as she let her lids flutter closed. Only for a moment though before she was moving towards the other woman. “It’s been quite some time.”

“He assured me that there would be no problems with your taking her form,” Penelope said, and she trusted in the fact that Gabriel had been thorough in his search. Memories were a tricky thing, they were a silvery substance and the incubus had snatched them away; leaving the body that Selene inhabited as nothing more than a shell, she was something empty to inhabit and make her own. “Eat,” she urged, spooning some of the soup from her own bowl. “It will do little for your physical strength, but it will make you feel more like yourself.” It was something warm, at the very least. “I don’t know Petrichor well, but I love Gabriel dearly. I think they are well matched, and that they are happy.” Was that not what mattered most? Happiness was a fleeting thing, it was smothered by the smallest of notions, suffocated by even the turning of the weather. “I’m embarrassed to tell you the primary reason,” the rift admitted, looking over at Selene. “Gabriel wished for you to be at the wedding, but I had hoped that you would want to walk the earth once again, to bestow your gifts upon the world as you had before. We are too few, from times long past, I thought it would bring both you and them joy.”

“I do hope so. Otherwise, I’ll have to start regenerating my own body.” Which was probably buried underground for quite some time now. It would take quite a lot, but Scylla had been very good at healing herself and others. She could only hope it didn’t come to that now. This body was a nice one and it would do her good for the rest of her immortal life. She lifted the spoon to her mouth, some of the soup sloshing over the sides back down into the bowl. “Mm, you’re a good cook.” She spooned more into her mouth before placing it in her lap for a moment. “Petrichor has always been the most lovely and caring person I’ve known. If he loves Gabriel, then I have no qualms about loving him as a brother as well.” Selene could hope they were happy for as long as possible. She had not been so lucky to find romantic love, but she was always happy to see when her siblings would. Perhaps it would happen for Nemea. She wanted that for her sister. “Oh?” Her brows rose as the other spoke. “I want nothing more than to help others as I once have before. However, I would be lying if I said I did not want to attend this wedding.”

“We’ve been through this so many times before, Selene. Killing is not your answer, but it’s mine.” He fixed his younger sister with a look, clearly willing them to drop the subject for now. She’d just returned, and her pointed words weren’t going to make him change his mind at all for now. “Yes, I knew. Perhaps he’s the last I expected to fall for one cursed by the gods, but it seems like they simply go together, despite it all.” After all, Fenrir had been in love with an incubus once as well. Now the man was a manticore, and Fenrir loved him just the same. “You’ve missed little, Selene. But your resurrection might paint a larger target on your back than you think.”

“Just because we’ve been through it many times does not mean I’ll stop saying it.” They were sure to keep going back and forth about this so she was going to put a pin in it for now. The last thing she wanted was to get into any arguments with her siblings this early into her new life. Not that this was anything close to one. There had been worse. “I think it’s quite fitting for Phoenix. He’s quite good when it comes to judge of character. Most of the time.” It was why he could create such pure beings. Otherwise, they would all be cursed by the gods. “Fenrir, I’ve always had a target on my back. I’ve been far too used to it for over three thousand years. I know what moves I need to make first though.”

Ptolema accepts the embrace, but her body is rigid and cold. She wants to yank away from Selene, fall to her knees and beg for forgiveness. She is too selfish to do it. Her arms rise, shaking, but finally wrap tightly around her sister. A different body, perhaps, but as the lion presses her nose into the hydra’s neck, a familiar scent lingers on the skin. She clings tight, having to force herself to let go when Selene’s pulls back.

“There are more words I wish to say than the universe has time to give me.” A deep breath in and she forces her head to raise. “I can only start with I’ve missed you and I’m so sorry.”

It felt like home to wrap her arms around Ptolema. This was her sister. No matter how angry or cold the other was to anyone else, it had never been that way with her. Selene could feel the warmth seeping from her sister’s arms as they embraced. It had taken a moment for her to pull away, but she kept her hand on the side of Nemea’s neck, eyes catching the other’s. “You have no need to apologize to me. You never do.” She understood the anger. Although she kept hers buried deep, she understood. A smile creeped upon her lips. “I’ve missed you more than you know. I thought our next meeting would be in Elysium.” How happy she was to know that was not going to be the case.

Being held by their mother was something that might have gone on forever. She was here, alive, in the flesh. She breathed in, then out, and Zeke found himself doing the same. He’d felt it when she came back, wanted to believe it too but he’d kept himself from the feeling because it just seemed too good to be true. “You’re really here.” Zeke breathed, he looked from Leon to Selene at her question, “We’re looking for Medusa. We came here after you-” there was no way around it. “We all felt what happened to you. We had to find out what happened. We had to get revenge for you.” @saltyleon·

Leon pulls back barely, giving just enough space to breathe. One hand still rests on the middle of his mother’s back, the other on Ezekiel’s shoulder. “We’re going to get revenge,” Leon clarifies. Their mother had returned, but her murderer was still out there. The snake bitch would pay. But time for revenge would come later, now was a moment of celebration. “How are you back? What happened?” He wants answers, but doesn’t want to spit a thousand questions at her. @selenexnereus·

The mention of Medusa had her jaw clenching. It was no surprise that those that loved and cared for her were going to try to get revenge for her death. However, Selene wanted to handle this on her own. She would get to Medusa when she was ready. For now, she just wanted to revel in the fact that she was once again walking the earth and getting to be with the people she also loved and cared for. “You don’t have to worry about Medusa. I will deal with her.” Whether they listened to that suggestion or not was up to them. She wasn’t going to force them to listen to her. Not if they didn’t want to. “My brother’s future husband and a dear friend of mine pulled me from Elysium.” She let a smile reach her face as she looked between them. “Enough about me though. Tell me what’s been going on since you’ve been here. Do you like it here? Any new developments in your lives?” @ezekielxmacklin·

“So what, you’ll convince her to kill Medusa?” Sounded off brand but Micah wasn’t going to complain, he wasn’t going to look a gift horse in the mouth. Though somehow he doubted that was the sort of talking that Selene had in mind, if anything it was just going to be her telling Nemea to talk to him and the cycle of Ptolema trying to talk him out of this would just go on and on for literally fucking ever. Micah didn’t know that Phoenix was getting married, or was it Fenrir? He didn’t care anymore. “Well welcome back,” he shrugged, “for whatever that’s worth I’m glad you’re not dead anymore. I’m sure Ptolema is too.”

“Well, no. I will deal with Medusa on my own. However, I’m sure there is something we can do about Hektor and the rifts that have caused you pain.” Selene wished things could work out in everyone’s favor. The veil could fall or not fall and there would be people that found it necessary or not. She wasn’t sure which side was correct, but she was always on the side where the minority felt like they were listened to. She had been the outcast once upon a time and she would not wish that on anyone. “Thank you. I’m sorry I can’t help you as much as I would like to, but I will try my best to make things easier.”

“I suppose it’s been okay. I’ve been reunited with those from the Häljesta, and my kin. The only thing I want to do now is kill anyone who dares harm them. Or you, Petrichor, and Ptolema.” Fenrir looked her over, recognizing her soul and now taking in the form that she’d gotten. “So who’s this, then? And I hear an incubus and an old friend are to thank for your presence.”

“Killing isn’t always the only answer, Fenrir. You know that. If someone dares to harm those you care about, then that is their mistake, but you don’t need to do the same to them.” Those who wished harm on others certainly deserved comeuppance, but death was not one of those things. That was something that Scylla would never suggest as an option. There had been far too much death in the world for them to cause some of their own. Nevertheless, she looked down at the body that had been given to her. “I suppose my body was too decomposed. I’m sure I could have made it so it was not, but this was the body that Penelope and Gabriel found for me.” She brushed a stray piece of hair out of her face. “Did you know that incubus was to be married to our brother?”

Nemea and Fenrir had both heard of him. Stories they’d said, of an original that had come before them - the dragon who’d been put down by a God. This woman was either playing at coy or she had not yet put together the connection she felt with him with the stories that permeated his origin. “We were to be family, once.” Dreki commented, “Long ago.” Now the stories of the four originals were painted across Greece and he was a shadow that no one even knew had existed. 

His energy was all too familiar to her now that he had said those words. Selene was sure he was meant to be a part of their family from the connection she certainly felt from him, but it was an odd feeling that she did not recognize. Perhaps it was because of her newfound life that she was not used to yet. “I apologize that my memory is a little hazy now. I did just return from death.” She moved closer to him. “You have created wyverns, yes?” If he was to be one of them, then she would accept him as such.

She was the nice one as Ptolema had always put it, and truthfully Micah never really knew what to say to her. Undoubtedly she had some opinions about the boy who was raised as a soldier under Ptolema, but there was nothing that would have kept him from looking for the kinds of creatures that had killed his father. Micah flinched at the touch and shied away from it. “Apparently Hektor wants to kill my boyfriend or something, likely me by proxy. Ptolema doesn’t want to kill the bitch that murdered you, or any of the other rifts that tore down the veil for that matter. So, you know.” He rolled his eyes. “Been better.” The shifter knew enough about the supernatural world to guess that someone had resurrected Scylla, there was no faking the connection he felt. “Who brought you back?”

Selene ended up dropping her hand as soon as she saw the small flinch that had occurred because of it. She wasn’t going to be the cause of any discomfort that came to him. Whatever he had been through was something she was not familiar with and she was sure it would come to light in due time. If he wanted it to, of course. However, that line of thought went out the window as soon as he let his problems out into the air. She wasn’t sure how she would explain that she was the cause of at least one of those things. Simply clearing her throat, she let a hand run over the back of her neck. “I’m sorry that you’re going through all of that. All I can offer is talking to Ptolema.” His question caused her to look back at him. “A dear friend of mine and my brother’s future husband.”

Ezekiel had felt it when she came back. How could he not? The shifter didn’t know how or why but he didn’t care, in the middle of the night Zeke and Leon were working when the pair exchanged a knowing look. He wanted to run out right then and there, say fuck it to work and take off to go looking for her, but they wouldn’t have to. “You’re back-” Zeke said dumbly as they stood outside of Hel’s, it was afterhours which meant the fights were raging below them. “how-” he stopped asking questions and instead surged forward to embrace her. His voice cracked. “You’re back.” @saltyleon·

“Mom,” Leon says softly. He sounds like a kid, finally finding their mother after wandering around the grocery stone alone and scared. Barely a half step behind his twin, Leon’s arms encircled them both. He buried his nose in his mother’s neck, squeezing the two most important people in his world tightly. He felt his eyes burn as tears began to build, but he held them closed. He didn’t want to ruin their reunion with his tears and sadness. Selene had returned to them. It didn’t matter that she did not look like herself, it was her. “I can’t believe it.”

Somehow, they felt even larger to hug than they had before. Their arms had engulfed her and she wished she could wrap her arms around them as she once had when they were younger. They had grown so much, she could barely recognize them. Even if they looked the same, they would still be her pseudo-children, the ones she could never have on her own. Never would she ever trade them for anyone else though. Selene wondered who else she would come upon while in Corinth. There was one she feared seeing, but that would be something she would have to deal with when the time came. “I have some guardian angels, it seems. I’ve missed you both so much. How have you been? “I was supposed to be there. When you joined me in Elysium.” For all his life, Fenrir knew he was supposed to await his siblings wherever they ended up. That had been the deal with Artemis when he’d died. She’d promised him a way to cross between the afterlives, from Valhalla to Elysium, in case something happened to his siblings. Yet he hadn’t even known she’d died. He’d been pulled from Valhalla when his grave was disturbed, and his own body was used to kill Selene. Then again, here she was. There would’ve been time he had thought it was too good to be true, but he embraced his younger sister, pulling her against his chest as he took a breath, “I missed you, Scylla.”

“I had hoped you would be. We still found each other though. Didn’t we?” In the end, she would be brought back to all of them. Selene hadn’t intended to be, but she felt like she was the glue that kept Ptolema, Petrichor and Hakon together. It had been more of an ordeal after Fenrir’s passing, but she had always known they would be together again. In life or death. She had hoped that would have been the case when she passed that she would be there with her brother, but it was never good to think on the past. Looking upon the future of their lives was the best thing they could do. “How has it been for you since you’ve been back? I hope well?”

The moment Selene had come back, Ptolema had felt it. Like a piece of her soul had been returned, slotted back into her body with a warmth that said, ‘I missed you. Thank you for waiting.’ She’d fallen to her knees and hugged her chest, cried until she could no longer breathe. The feeling of joy was soon taken over by shame. The last time Ptolema had spoken to her sister, she’d been all but out of her mind with rage. She’d thrown her wrath at her sister, had made her desire for Petrichor’s death clear. How could she face her? It would be impossible

But Ptolema knew it was only a matter of time before her sister would find her. So when she senses Selene’s presences nearby, she only forces herself to look up at the sound of her own name. “Hello sister.” Her tone is barely a whisper, a failing attempt to mask the emotions.

It was less of a voice than her sister normally had, that was for certain. Selene had always felt herself as being the more quiet of the two of them, throwing her voice only when she needed to say something of the utmost importance. Hearing Ptolema’s voice so low made her think back to the last conversation they had had. She hoped that things would change by now, but she would be there for all of them even if it had not. Selene always hoped for the best though. Even if the chances of it being so were very slim. Nevertheless, it took only a moment for Selene to close the gap between them, throwing her arms around her sister’s shoulders.

“Is that all you wish to say to me after this much time?” She said the words lowly into her sister’s ear, her body pulling away soon after.

“Gabriel saw to it that you got something beautiful,” Penelope said, stirring the pot of soup that she was preparing on the stove. The other woman had come home with her, and she sat across from her dressed in her clothes, and soon, would be eating at her table. The rift was quietly pleased, and enjoyed the idea of having company— it was a big home now that Pandora was gone, and having another body within it kept her from feeling like something that haunted it. She pressed her lips together; this was a conversation she had hoped that her siblings would have had with her, but it was her that was there, and she was responsible for Selene’s presence back on earth. “There’s to be a wedding,” that much she knew, and she felt foolish to give it as a reason for something as grave as stealing a soul from Elysium. “Your family has missed you, as well.” Penelope reached for a bowl, ladling it full before passing it and a spoon to Scylla. “I was under the impression that you wished to return,” she said, seating herself across from the other woman. She had questions as well, and they bubbled on her tongue before she opted instead to be gentle. “I’m sorry if that was not the case.“

“Well, he did a wonderful job. I just hope that this woman did not meet such an end as I did.” Then again, Selene was sure that was highly impossible. Her dearest friend had caused her death. Surely, that could not be the same that had occurred for the woman’s body she currently inhabited. Nevertheless, looks were merely a means to an end. Scylla could have been given any body, but what mattered was what she held within. She would never find herself treating anyone with any ugliness that could flow through heir veins. Treating others the way she would want to be treated was always how she would live her life. Even after death. If someone needed her help, she was going to give it to them without even a second thought. “So I heard through the veil you brought me through. I’m happy for my brother.” She considered any reason involving her siblings a good enough one to bring her back to the land of the living from Elysium. “And I have missed them.” Her hands lifted to grab the bowl that her dear Penelope had handed to her. It felt surreal. Something as simple as a meal made by someone to give her a sense of warmth made her feel giddy inside. “I just was not aware of why. I was content waiting for them, but I am not upset to be alive again.”

“And you’ll be there.” Petrichor said, gladly. Marriage at all seemed beyond him even as recently as a year ago, but now here he was. “We don’t have a date, but we have a location. The church on Skopelos, the one on the mountain with the three-sixty view of the ocean around it.” The phoenix furthered as he moved to embrace his sister, it still did not feel real. He was glad that Medusa still lived, had he gone through with his plan to kill the gorgon then he would have to answer to Selene now. “I love him, Selene. I’m happy. Truly happy now that you’re back, I feel… Lighter than I have in centuries.”

“Of course. I wouldn’t miss it for the world.” No death could stop her from watching her brother marry the person he loved. She would probably crawl from Elysium herself to witness such a momentous occasion. All she ever truly cared for was the happiness of her siblings. “That sounds beautiful, Petrichor. I’m so happy for you,” she stated as she returned his embrace. Then she pulled away, her hands resting on his shoulders ass he looked into his blue eyes. There had been a moment of time there where she thought she would have to wait until he met his own demise to see him again. Thankfully, the tides had been turned in her favor and she would be forever thankful to Penelope and Gabriel. She would have to thank the latter soon. “Well, he helped bring me back to my family. He clearly loves you just as much. Your happiness is all I ever want.” She dropped her hands. “Come on. Let’s go do something. Anything.”

“I felt you return.” Dreki commented as he looked upon the woman who’d been brought back from the dead, not at all like himself. They were both dragons, of sorts. Though she’d been permitted to live while it was the decision of the Norse that Dreki would be put to death. He’d longed to meet this one, in particular. She inherited the family that Dreki had been denied, the original four with him left forgotten in the depths of Niflheim. A jailer and tormentor of souls. “We are connected, you and I.”

“Quite a lot of people did. A very long line of shifters follows after me.” She looked this man in the eyes. There was something about him awfully familiar. Perhaps it was the fact that he seemed just like her. But there was a difference between the two of them. Yet, she felt drawn to him as she did her siblings. It seemed the feeling was mutual given the next words to leave his mouth. “Is that so? I wouldn’t mind knowing what that connection may be. To you, at least.”

The last time she had spoken to Nemea, the woman had been vengeful. Ptolema had wanted to know exactly who killed Scylla so she could seek out the revenge she thought was right. Selene would never have done such a thing though. Death was not something she wanted within the world. She knew it was inevitable, but she wouldn’t be a part of the kind that was intentional. She couldn’t be. There was a monster inside of her that liked to tell her otherwise, but she would not ever let herself become that. It would be against everything she had ever worked for. That didn’t mean she wouldn’t support her sister through everything though. Her dear sister’s anger was something she never thought she would understand, but she knew what it felt like. It was all-consuming and hard to step away from no matter how much she would try to at times. If she accepted the monster within her, she knew she would grasp that more than anyone. 

Her sister needed her though. Nemea needed her. With her anger, Scylla knew she would need to be there for her sister more than ever. She had no idea how the other was coping now, but she hoped it was well. Seeing the woman from a short distance, she stopped and hoped her presence was enough to make the other look up. And, if it wasn’t... “Nemea.”

“I’ve heard you’re to be married. The man that was there when I awoke, that’s him, right? An incubus. I never would have thought.” Not that she was being judgmental about it. Scylla would be happy for Phoenix no matter who he found as a partner. Even if it was someone that was destined to hurt others over and over again to survive. Maybe they had figured that out already though. She hoped, at least. Phoenix could take care of himself though, that much she was sure of. No matter how much advice she could give, the heart would always want what it wanted. That much she knew for certain.
