Why Rick Riordan is the BEST author (a not at all biased list)
*The diversity: He starts out his writing career with The Percy Jackson and the Olympians series about dyslexic and ADHD demigods, which is amazing in itself, and his books get progressively more diverse. In his sequel series, The Heroes of Olympus, there are many POC and a side character from The Percy Jackson series is revealed to be gay. In one of his latest series, Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard, there is a Muslim protagonist who is excited for her arranged marriage, a transgender, genderfluid Latinx, a pansexual protagonist, a black dwarf, and a deaf elf. AND none of the characters are token characters for brownie points; they are all some of the most developed characters ever.
*The characters: Like I was saying before, the characters are all super developed. Leo Valdez, Nico di Angelo, and Alex Fierro are three of my favorite characters of all time, from any media or literature ever.
*The humor: The writing throughout the book is not too serious and very sarcastic, and I find myself laughing out loud at some of the lines.
*The plots: These books are what really made me love mythology. A lot of the plots spin off from classic myths (like, in The Sea of Monsters, many of the events were inspired by the Odyssey), and they humanize the different gods, monsters, giants, etc. from the original myths. It is told in such a funny, modern way, and the adventures never get boring.
