Do not constantly tell them about your ex cis man boyfriends. Do not ask them when they are going to get the “surgeries” to be “like” your ex cis man boyfriends. Do not relegate them to a lesser status in your life (a secret, a shame) than your cis man boyfriends.

If you cannot love GNC masculine people for exactly who they are and with pride, don’t come near us. You are not a safe partner. Stick with the cis men you so adore (which is allowed btw!)

I think I’m falling in love for the first time in a long time and I am desperately trying to grasp anything on the way down to make it stop.

We met at work. We started the same day. I saw her in the foyer and she turned to me and smiled and it really felt like something slowed down and sped up at the same time, and the air bent.

We became friends. We started messaging all day every day. I’d wake up knowing she’d have left a meme or a joke, I’d go to bed knowing she was there. We have the same humour. We laugh at the same things.

I told her I was interested but understood if there was a boundary. She told me let’s be friends. And then she invited me to her apartment on a day of blistering heat, no air, sweat slicked skin and salty lips when she asked me to kiss her on her bed. I close my eyes even now and can still see the colour of her booty shorts and the way her thighs shook so involuntarily as my hand worked upwards.

Then silence. I wanted to know what it meant. She didn’t want to talk about it. And then she told me the “it’s not you, it’s me” and said she doesn’t want a relationship and I cried secretly near a tree and a trash can and I know she knew from the red eyes and noncommittal smile.

Then we went on a date. A non-date date. She got me a Christmas present. The most thoughtful one I’ve ever received. I got her a t shirt which she wore for three days. We watched a film. And needed more of each other. We went to dinner. We talked about our parents. We needed more of each other. We walked to dessert in drizzling rain and humidity and shared a bowl until closing, people mopping around us as she told me my eyes light up whenever I smile and I told her she is so beautiful.

But she doesn’t want me to be hers.

I went on a date with someone from the past. Someone lovely, and smart, and kind, and who deserves better than me pulling away from a kiss and pretending it wasn’t because I couldn’t stop thinking about her and her lips and that day and the salt and the heat and how it felt wrong with anyone who isn’t her.

I don’t understand her. I don’t know what this is. I am falling and I don’t know if it’s alone.
