a/n: replaying RDR2 on pc this time. im now taking the time to treasure the small interactions at camp-- especially sean, kieran, and lenny's.. lol
prompt: how you react to sean's capture and soon-to-be rescue
Sean Macguire... He's been on the mind of every man, woman, and child since Blackwater. What happened to him? Is he okay? Where is he now?
The men involved in the Blackwater incident had some idea, and even some others who weren't involved also had an idea. Sean was either dead or captured during his separation from the gang. Arthur- being the sweet guy he is- told you he believed Sean was just captured. You knew Arthur didn't care either way. Hell, the guy probably HOPED Sean had been killed! He was never a fan of anyone who wasn't Dutch or the lady on his nightstand.
You? You believed Sean was living. The papers would've been boasting of his death if he were dead. Your suspicions were confirmed when Dutch came back to camp with Trelawney in tow, both buzzing with the news of Sean's capture.
"Sean's alive! Bounty hunters got the poor bastard, but he's still kicking!" Trelawney shouted ecstatically.
Your head shot up to look at the men riding into camp.
"Guess you owe me money, Mr. Bell," you growled, standing up and putting on your bandolier hastily.
"Hey, hey!" Dutch stopped you, hopping off his horse and putting his hands on your chest to halt you, "Where do you think you're going, Mr. (L/N)?"
"To go get Sean, what else?" You knew better than to shove Dutch off like you would anybody else in the gang.
"No, Sir, you're not going," Dutch chuckled, shaking his head, "you're far too... You... For the plan Trelawney has set up,"
"C'mon, Dutch~~" I whined, rolling my head to the side, "Y'all're gonna need a good rifleman if he's being kept in Blackwater!"
"That's why we're bringing Charles!"
"No buts! Now, quit complaining before you're off all jobs for a week!" Dutch snaps, gently pushing on your chest to sit you down. You huff, bending to Dutch and sitting down on the crate you've been moping on since the Blackwater incident.
Dutch crouches next to you, looking you in the eyes while you stare at the dirt, "Look, (F/N), I know how close you and Sean are, which is the exact reason you're not coming."
You look up at Dutch tentatively, sadness in your eyes.
"For this mission, we're gonna need full attention and care. We can't have you go in guns blazing and cause them to kill Sean. Understand?"
You look down at your clasped hands, your own thumb brushing against the other.
"Great!" Dutch stands up and slaps your back playfully, "Don't worry 'bout Sean, we'll bring him back to you within the week. According to Trelawney, he's to be transferred to another jail tomorrow. That's when we'll get him."
You're silent for a moment, taking in the information, then you speak, "Thanks, Dutch."
And now all you had to do was wait. Wait for Sean's safe return. Wait for your lover to return to your safe arms again.
