I already finished the RT iceberg! Tried to find some more obscure stuff.
I have stared at this for 12 hours and it's the best thing I've ever seen in my life.
This is entirely stream-of-conscious, and has no real closure, because I don’t have any kind of solidified theory, here. I’ve just been re-watching this series in quarantine and have some observations:
Almost all of the transforming Robot trains have some sort of assisting cargo cars that can follow them around, help them out with equipment, and may or may not be sentient.
Kay has Ato K, Alf has Ato A, Duck has Ato D, and Viktor has Ato V.
Duke refers to his assisting cargo as ‘Delta Board’, exclusively (and if he called it ‘Ato D’, that would be a repeat).
Selly, presumably, only has Becky, as we don’t see her using an Ato car the way Kay, Alf, and Duck do.
(Actually….do we ever see Selly in train form in Season 1? I don’t think we do. She’s just always transformed.)
Jeffrey doesn’t seem to have any kind of assisting cargo at all, either - not even an assistant like Becky.
Are the Atos sentient?? We hear them beep in response to vocal commands, and Duck seems to treat his like a companion, rather than just another tool, but we’re never told for sure.
None of the Atos (or Becky) are targeted by the virus!clones, so they probably aren’t enough of an energy source for the virus to want to target (evidence: Becky running off through the crowd of virus!clones coming up from the Central Engine, and not even getting a second glance from them).
Sidenote: I’m still a little upset that Becky was the only one who thought of trying to rescue Duke, who was still locked up down there with the virus!clones. Even Kay seemed to give him up for dead.
XD YAY!!
Is it ok if I add my two cents?
I think that the Atos may be named for “automatic train operation” which: ”(ATO) is an operational safety enhancement device used to help automate the operation of trains.” https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Automatic_train_operation
Actually, Duke and Selly have Ato’s as well.
In “Duke Awakens”, when things start to turn a bit ominous before Duke comes crashing into the fountain, Selly says “Ato S, take care of Becky!” and Becky goes inside Ato S, who rushes her off to safety.
I think Selly has Becky instead of units, and Becky can be stored in and deployed from Ato S, much like units.
And Duke’s ato is called “Ato Delta”: At the beginning of the fight between Duke and Kay in “Hang in there Kay”, Duke says “Ato Delta, launch my units.” Delta board also seems to be deployed from Ato Delta. (Or from a second car just behind Ato Delta. I’m not 100% sure where the ato’s stop and the inanimate cargos begin.)
I think Duke is the only one to have two different sets of tools in his cargo/ato, since he has units AND Delta Board.
It is interesting that Duke’s ato is named ato Delta. I’ll admit that it’s my husband who pointed out that, in mathematical and engineering naming conventions, it would imply that the designation “D” was already taken when Duke’s accoutrements were named.
It would mean, most likely, that Duck has been part of the group longer than Duke has.
((In an effort to spread my latest hyperfixation, for anyone who was curious about my last few non-OOC/non-MSa posts:
The show is on Netflix, and the YouTube channel has been nonstop streaming Season 1 for a couple of weeks now.))
((Duck lost the flower crown in the episode climax but Kay found it so it’s fine.))
This is The Brotherhood of the Traveling Flower Crown!
(I thought this scene was so funny, how Kay and Alf were just laughing it up while Vito and Duck were freaking out lol.
(I’m sure Kay and Alf knew Jeffrey would be able to fix the situation, Vito and Duck just weren’t accustomed to going fast enough to require that sort or assistance.)
((It’s been a few months and there’s not much new news about this show but the hyperfixation hasn’t faded so here’s this screenshot I took of Duck from the “Train Race” episode.
He put a flower crown on his first car early in the race, and it stays there for the entirety of the episode.))
((I STAND CORRECTED.))
Oh ^-^ Duck and Ato D shared the flower crown! That’s nice too!

Oh boy! Momentarily I seem to have quantum leaped back in time by one year (which somehow manages to feel like ten...how is it possible to have developed such strong nostalgia for such a recent era...)
I love Duck’s flower crown! Duck is so patient and creative. It’s also so sweet that he put the crown on Ato D. I just feel like that’s really nice because the Atos, well, they seem to be sentient but they kind of fall into the background.
Imagine being an Ato and not really being able to communicate much, and mostly feeling like an outside observer, but then one day the train you work with gives you a flower crown to show that you’re appreciated. Wouldn’t that just make your whole day??
I dedicate this song to a certain someone.

Alf from Robot Trains killed cringe culture and pissed on its grave!

Heart Symbolism in Train World
Ok guys, so I was thinking about something. In Train World we see several instance of the stylized heart ( ❤️ ) . It is interesting to consider the meaning and origins of this symbol in Train World, considering that trains are mechanical and do not have an anatomical heart.
Meanings/Uses:
On the health read-out that Robot Trains are able to see over their field of vision, there is a heart ❤️ symbol above their energy level indicator.
This would suggest that the heart symbol does have some health or anatomical connotations even in Train World. That could also explain why a heart motif is incorporated in to Selly’s design, because she is essentially a doctor/diagnoses and repairs other trains.
It’s curious to see that the arm of the gate to The Garden Area also has a heart symbol.
There is also a heart symbol on the book Selly reads in an effort to better understand Janne’s perspective in “Janne and Kay”. In this episode, the book seems to be about interpersonal relationships.
(Gary can often be seen reading a similar looking book in season 2, but it has not improved his interpersonal skills and he sometimes reads it upside down).
It would seem that the heart symbol in Train World has a broad usage similar to how it is used in our world – representing a wide array of topics related to both health and emotions.
But why? Is it a symbol that has been passed down from humans of the past? Or is there a different explanation?
Here, in the right hand side, we can see a full schematic of Duke:
There’s nothing in there quite like an anatomical human heart but, if you look closely, you can see that the red blinking indicator light for the engine would sit roughly where the human heart would.
Let’s look more closely at some more engines.
Well, you can see that they’re shaped roughly like an inverted trapezoid. It would not be much of a stretch to stylize the over all shape of the engine or the inverted triangle indicator light into a ❤️ shape. It makes about as much sense as representing an anatomical human heart that way.
Hearts representing an engine would explain their use on the energy level indicators and would also support the idea that they have a medical connotation in Selly’s design.
And, because the engines actually are the location of their software/A.I., trains’ engines could more accurately be thought of as centers of emotion than a human heart could.
Do trains hug?
It would make sense that trains don’t know the idea of hugs, the tracks are usually too far away.
And even though robot trains have human-like arms, they seem to be culturally identical to regular trains. They’re basically just trains that work as part-time robots. There is no reason for the robot trains to develop the idea of a hug.
I only remember one hug depicted onscreen, in Season 2 when Duke was very happy to see Mos and Dos. (I could be wrong, I don’t remember all episodes). So I guess trains don’t hug casually, they only do it when they experience very strong emotions - and they probably don’t even call it a hug, it’s more like a way to keep your loved ones very close… Maybe Duke invented hugs in that scene?
Well I just think it’s interesting that in train society it is normal to keep distance and don’t touch at all.
This is very thought-provoking, and relevant to current times.
In fact, I recall another instance where there was hugging between Robot Trains: It was on the episode where everyone got trapped in a simulation. I recall that Duck was very worried about Kay and when Kay finally woke up from the simulation, Duck was practically crying with happiness and got very close to him and put his hands on him and smushed his face against him.
So in that case, there is some concept of affectionate physical contact in Train World. …But that makes one feel bad for the non-robot trains, who are actually not even physically capable of getting close to each other.
…Maybe that’s why Vito fell so hard for Selly. Maybe that was the only physical contact he’d ever had with another train.
Self-reblog to add:
Oh! They tow each other! That’s what non-robot trains do on dates! Remember when Kay towed Janne? Aww, that’s like holding hands for them. At least they have something.

I have this rifle-shaped pen and turns out it fits perfectly with the Selly toy xD
XD Oh man, I love this!
...Almost gives me a renewed interest for my fic idea where Selly caught the virus instead of Duke...
A bit later than expected but Egmont’s Polish Robot Trains magazine keeps going! Under the cut you can read a review for issue 3/2020, the seventh one in total.
Great review! XD
“What's missing is the medal on his shoulder, but I could just draw him one - that is, if I believed he deserved one.”
ROFL!!!
Why am I so irrationally angry at Gary for stealing full credit for inventing Dolo?? Typical Rail Watch indeed!
As grown ups who plays Among Us it’s our duty to kick/ ban everyone who:
Has a name with a slur in it. (The amount of slurs I see in names is crazy)
Asks for minor’s Snapchats/ig/ etc. (I literally had someone come in and immediately ask for specifically kids Snapchat’s.)
Showing inappropriate or bad behavior.
If you arent in charge of the server then point it out and make sure the kids who play know it’s not okay.
It’s a fun game that a lot of us play, and it came be a good thing that grown ups are on there keeping an eye on things. Let’s make a nice space for ourselves and everyone else to enjoy.
Since this seems to be controversial according to my inbox, I’ll say it again.
If you are an adult, and someone comes into your server...
... with a slur in their name BAN THEM.
... asking about personal or contact information (especially aimed at kids) BAN THEM.
... being racist, homophobic, transphobic, etc, BAN THEM.
Duke transformed into his robot form and took stock of his surroundings, casting about for some clue as to what was going on. Nothing. Nothing at all in any direction. Just this stranger.
“That’s because,” replied the stranger “There are no solutions here.”

Duke and The Stranger, as seen in @sellyripley‘s fic “Layover in Paradise”. Even if you’re not interested in or part of the Robot Trains fandom, I personally recommend this fic - it’s short, sweet, and a pretty good bridge between seasons one and two!
Commissioned by @sellyripley. If you like my art, check me out on Ko-Fi!
Guys! ^_^ LOOK AT THIS AWESOME ART BY @solitaria-fantasma ! It’s a commission for my fan fic! I love it soooo much!
