Yes! It’s not a 1-1 match of course but the whole ‘group of friends who did some morally complicated things as teen girls are brought together as adults and must confront the past, as we are seeing present day shenanigans mixed in with flashbacks’

Also the fact that in both shows, the modern day women receive mysterious letters with symbols that only they know the significance. These letters (or post cards) set the group on a path of hijinks. But it is later revealed the letters are sent from a less threatening individual.

In Yellowjackets the letters ended up coming from Jeff, and in How to Get to Heaven they ended up coming from Saoirse. I thought that felt particularly similar to me!

Two things can be true

1) JK Rowling is an active danger to trans people and what she is doing is inexcusable. Anyone who ignores this and participates in the HP franchise is showing they care more about their nostalgia (or money in case of actors) than trans people. I genuinely hope HP dies out and everyone forgets about it. I used to be a fan but now I can’t even talk about it without getting upset. I never want to see anything HP again.

2) People, especially kids were not stupid or bad for liking it at the time. And you are not better than anyone for not jumping on the bandwagon at the time. Whenever anyone says “I didn’t ever fall for the hype when *example of less problematic author* was right there, I roll my eyes. Bad people can make good art. You cannot always tell the morality of the artist by their art, especially when you’re a CHILD. I wouldn’t say HP is great art, but there was something that captured the imagination of billions of people. And many queer people such as myself found it comforting at the time. You are not morally better than anyone just because you didn’t ever love HP. HP not being good is actually completely beside the point that the author uses her success and platform to dehumanize and actively campaign against trans people. That has nothing to do with the quality of HP. Niel Gaimen is much more regarded artistically and he turned out to be a bad person. If you continue to insist that good art= good person you will continually be disappointed and shocked.
