“Get In The Robot” For Coca-Cola Freestyle

‘Get In The Robot’ is my Coca-Cola Freestyle low/no cal mix available on the Coca-Cola Freestyle app for #MyMixMonday. Sprite Zero, Seagram’s Diet Ginger Ale and Coke Zero form like your favorite old school robot. I had a blast making this and it makes me want to dig out all my old toys. That’s a lie, they’re already out. I have shelves and display cases haha. Hope you guys enjoy it!

“It’s Too Wild For You To Handle“ For Gallery Nucleus

Gallery Nucleus is hosting a Bartkira Nuclear Edition Book Launch & Exhibition and the opening reception is tonight, Saturday April 9th from 7-10 pm PST.

The title of the piece is a direct quote from Akira, “I customized this bike for myself! It’s too wild for you too handle.“ The motorcycle is a metaphor and foreshadowing for Tetsuo loosing control, and being too thirsty for power he can’t handle. And in both cases Bartneda/ Kanebart, gets caught up because of Tetsuhouse/ Milsuo.

“The Teenagers” for NEWSWEEK

Illustration I did a little while back for Newsweek for an article juxtaposing teenagers of the 60′s with teenagers today. So one half of the spread is Twister circles and the other half is apps. I always appreciate when I get the opportunity to draw woc. You’d be surprised how often some people try to steer you in the away from depicting poc or women for that matter, because “this article isn’t about that.” As if it needs to be. So props to my art director for letting me do my thing!

You’ve seen his art before on tumblr, in google search gif sets (where I found some of these images) and facebook, but you likely don’t know the author of the art because people fail to give artists credit. Tsiaras’ work pops up on my dash constantly and has never been sourced as far as I’ve seen it. So here you go, tumblr. Meet the artist. Learn more in the links provided below.

Is it bad that I want to try using references of real people for poses while drawing anime? Or would that kind of be considered tracing or cheating in a way? I'm just never creative enough to think of poses for my characters..

As long as the licencing says that that photo is free to use/modify you can reference it/paint over it. If you find a photo you want to reference but can’t use it because of licencing try taking the pose yourself and making your own photo. While it’s alright to use references to draw a pose it’s better to try taking on a pose yourself to better understand what muscles are being used and how it feels.
