When John joined the SGC, he not only had his ATA gene tested, but whether he was a Sentinel or Guide. Turned out, he was a Sentinel. He didn’t know what to do with this information, but he talked it through with Jack and Jim. John was told it’d be more difficult for him since he would be effectively cut off from the Center. He would need a Guide. So, he sat in a room with Jim, Blair, Jack, and Daniel. Jack and Daniel were there representing the SGC, while Jim and Blair were there to help John if he needed it. John sat in the room for what felt like hours, while Guide after Guide was paraded in front of him. Blair said he would feel a connection and he hadn’t yet. Finally, they called for a break. John was grateful; his head was pounding. As he left the room, he ran into Rodney. As he reached out to steady himself, he felt the connection and grinned. Rodney on the other hand, was not pleased. Sure he was a Guide, but he never expected to actually do it. He was hard to work with and excitable. How was he going to keep a Sentinel grounded? He yelled and ranted that no, he wouldn’t do it. Couldn’t to it. And the whole time, John stood in a corner and smiled at him. Blair finally convinced Rodney to give it a shot and they were left alone to talk. Rodney ranted some more about how of course he had a stupid, army Sentinel. John shot back that he was in the Air Force and had a two degrees: one in aerospace and one in mathematics. Rodney might have fallen in love right then. Soon, they were shipped off to Atlantis, where new problems awaited them. Through it all, Rodney made sure that John didn’t zone out. Apparently, not all Guides had to be calm like Blair. Ranting was enough to keep John focused on Rodney’s voice. But it wasn’t until Koyla hurt Rodney that they admitted they loved each other. Now, John and Rodney are in charge of the Atlantis branch of the Sentinel and Guide Center.
