saw you curious about why there were so many senior gala finalists, i am here to explain lol

so basically there were only supposed to be 14 finalists, which would most likely mean that the 6th runners up and above were the real top 14.

when joe was announcing what he thought was top 14, he accidentally reread a portion of the top 30. (we know this because the 9 people he called before realizing the mistake were announced in the exact same order as the “top 14” as they were announced as part of the top 30. the order is always randomized again between cuts.) he stopped after the first 9 were announced, and all those poor seniors had to stand onstage waiting to find out wtf happened.

when joe came back, he announced that no one’s opportunity would be stripped away - they were already announced, and they would still be dancing in the gala. but that meant there would now be 23 finalists, which is a difference of 9. if i remember correctly, the 14 people awarded 6th runner up and above were the same 14 people announced with the correct top 14 list, so most likely, the first 9 people called (probably 7th runners up and below) were not supposed to be in the gala. however, we have no idea what the scores looked like before or after recompeting for any of the 23, so someone who didn’t really make the gala could have placed above someone who originally did make it, and vice versa.

overall it made the night much longer and crazier but it gave more dancers the opportunity and a lot of dreams came true!

wow that is insane!!! i’m glad that they didn’t go back and tell those kids they actually didn’t get top 10. good on you, nycda!

they were both AMAZING! senior was the category that i genuinely thought could go any way and i would not have been surprised!

All Star is the same as Elite Protege, the runner ups are still considered “All Star Winner” and get to tour/assist. If Aspen had gotten Elite Protege 1st runner up would we still be complaining that she didn’t title, or be celebrating that she double-titled?

i think this is why ranking the winners is so silly!!! it makes her (a ten year old, feeling the pressure and suspense of the moment) feel like she "lost" when she totally didn't! if they are all winners i see no point in ranking them, both for protege and all star. i'm so happy for her that she will get to tour with ovation, but in the moment she probably felt like she "lost" by being deemed "second place" or "first runner up" instead of just "winner"

im so annoyed at the amount of anons about the dancers not being deserving! can one just express an opinion without being attacked ?!

genuinely all the winners were so deserving!!! all the kids who won were BIG standouts at the challenge in my eyes! there's a difference between "so and so should have won over the kids who did" and "i'm sad so and so didn't win, i thought they were amazing"

girl it’s a saying…! and i’m talking about radix/ovation, not any of the winners. all the winners are soooo deserving! it’s just so brutal to be in the top 3/8 for all three titles and walk away with none. she’s only ten years old and i can only imagine how gutted she felt!
