Too often, artists don't charge enough for their work, be it commissions or shop listings. I've been paid more than my asking price, and paid other artists more if I feel they're underselling their work.

My personal goal is to keep my work affordable to ask many people as I can manage, without taking a loss. It's not a liveable wage, but it's also not so low I take a loss. Liveable is somewhere around $60/hour, but no business is whilling to pay that to anyone who isn't a CEO.

I charge $27/hour + cost of materials. Before this ridiculously weak and poor economy, i was selling something at least once a month. My commission slots would fill up within a month. I could afford to pay my bills and purchase groceries without too much struggle. I can count on one hand the number of items that have sold this year, and there have been even fewer commissions.

If you feel the artist isn't charging enough, and you can afford to pay more, please pay what you feel the work is worth. Artists, don't pay yourself federal minimum wage, nor lower. Time yourself when you work on your art. How much are you really paying yourself? If you charge too little and need to sell more in order to make enough to pay your bills, you risk burnout. You may never recover from that burnout. I know this firsthand, and it's been more than a decade since it happened. Zero recovery. I've since taken on a different art, and have had to be very careful to not hit that point again. It's a careful balance made more difficult by the current government.

Pay artists more. Artists, charge more. $25 for a full color portrait is not enough.

Apparently some people still need to hear this so: using an 'ai checker' is still using ai. If you are feeding someone's fic to one of these checkers, you will still not be sure their fic is ai because they are not 100% accurate, but you can be 100% sure that you are using ai. For fic. Furthermore you are doing the work of an ai scraper for them. You are, personally, feeding the machine. There is no actual excuse for using an ai checker on fanfic as a hobby. YOU are the problem.

If you think a fic is ai, mute it and move on. That's it. That's all you do.

i think people really under sell the physical side effects of mental health disorders sometimes. like sure the depression and anxiety may be 'just in your head' but when what's in your head happens to disrupts your sleep schedule and prevent you from going outside regularly and eating consistent meals and exercising and generally taking care of your body. well it sure takes its toll huh.

There is also a known brain /gut connection. Serotonin dis-regulation can effect gut permeability which can cause gut dis-regulation which can cause mood issues.. visas versa.
