So... I'm back! :D
“Prompto? We need to talk. There’s something I have to tell you. Or show you, I guess. Please don’t be mad. I would have never- I’m sorry. But it’s your name. It’s you.”
@fieryknowledge~Soulmate AUs~
The little blonde was quite speechless as Ignis of all people rambled, looking a bit frazzled, too. Brows knitted together as Prompto tried to understand exactly why he’d be mad at Ignis? Had the man done something? Six above let his camera be all rig-
Oh.
Color drained from Prompto’s face as he realized what it was Ignis was talking about, and a hand rose to rest on one of the leather bands wrapped around both his wrists. One covered the barcode tattoo he had loathed all of his life, whilst the other hid Ignis’ name from the rest of the world.
“I…um.” He didn’t know what to say, much less do. His gaze had dropped to the ground, his mind scrambling to come up with something, anything. After a moment’s hesitation he asked, “Why… why are you apologizing, Iggy?”
Time passed quietly in that little park, something that Prompto was quite grateful for. After a while his body stopped shaking and tears slowly dried as he began to catch his breath. Still, the coldness from early clung to him, and his heart ached as his mind went to how warm he’d been in Ignis’ arms, how he wished for them to wrap around him now and tell him that everything was going to be okay.
Although he knew it wasn’t. Ignis was apparently adamant on seeing him with Noctis, his best friend of all people, and now that he was alone those previous nagging thoughts and fears echoed quietly in Prompto’s mind. Did Ignis truly care, or had that been nothing more than an act?
The ringing of his phone brought Prompto out of his thoughts, jumping a bit and realizing how dark it was getting outside. Fishing his phone out of his pocket he rubbed at his eyes. Noctis, the caller ID told him, was calling him.
For a moment Prompto debating on not answering it, wanting more than to be left alone, but another ring called out and he answered, plastering on the brightest tone he could muster. “Heya Noct! What’cha doing calling lil’ ol’ me at this time of night?” he asked, standing up and dusting his pants off before heading for the sidewalk. “If it’s for another gaming night, I can’t take it tonight, bud. I’m already at home in studying clothes,” he lied. “Thinking of eating a couple of salads instead of snacks.” Another lie, Prompto was already planning his route home so that he could stop at the nearest grocery store to his house so that he could grab a couple of gallons of ice cream. Chocolate was needed, stat.
He’d run it all off tomorrow, anyway. He only had one class early in the morning, but that was history and he already had an A for certain in it, so he could easily message his professor saying he was sick or something and it wouldn’t affect his grade. Comedy movies sounded really nice, too… he needed something to smile about.
Ignis didn’t realize he was holding his breath the entire phone conversation. He could see Noctis go from confident to uncertain and Ignis knew that Prompto never wanted to see him again. His chest hurt and if he hadn’t been driving he would have probably even started to sink into a state of depression. It was taking every ounce of strength he had not to just pull over for a few moments. Instead he drove faster but not reckless, just wanting to get to Noctis’ apartment more than anything. Noctis knew instantly that Prompto was lying and when he got in these funks he knew how hard it was to pass. He was either going to have to tempt him with something amazing or just spill the beans. With a sigh he looked at Ignis’ pained looked and frowned. “Prompto, c’mon please? I had a really hard day and…” He sighed and lied. “Prompto me and Gladio had a really bad fight and I could really use my best friend.” In the back of his mind he was sure that Gladiolus was somewhere else and sneezing right now at the mention of his name. It almost made Noctis smile but he had to act reserved still to make sure Prompto took the bait. “We can have ice cream, maybe get some pizza and watch sappy movies. We can do healthy tomorrow. I’ll even eat vegetables with you and run, I promise.” At that he got a strange look from Ignis and the prince just shrugged his shoulders. “Prom, please? I wanted to talk to you anyway. It’s about you and Ignis. I saw your name on him when he dropped me off home and he looked really sad. Maybe we could come with a deviously awesome way to get you two set up. I mean it’d be awesome right? You’ve liked him for awhile and now you have the chance to be with him.” Noctis wasn’t sure if that was pushing it too far but he was grasping at straws. “Don’t make me make this a royal decree buddy.”
Silence followed for a long moment after Noctis’ pleas, Prompto’s feet changing paths and instead following one that would end up leading him to Noctis’ apartment instead of his own home, instead. All the pretenses of being fine dropped, the blonde’s eyes burning as he sniffled.
“Could we have triple chocolate ice cream?” His voice was hardly more than a whisper, just loud enough to carry through the phone. The question itself spoke volumes on how upset Prompto truly was; sherbet was his favorite flavor normally, but chocolate was reserved for when he was upset- asking for triple chocolate, well...
Tears were dripping down Prompto’s cheeks as he fought back a sob at Noctis’ mention of Ignis, and his suggestion. “T-That’s not gonna h-happen, buddy. H-He told me, a l-little while a-ago, t-that my name’s o-on his wrist.” His chest was tight, and his gaze blurry, the world meshing together yet he continued walking. “Ig-” No, he couldn’t say the other’s name. “He, t-thinks that you’re i-in love with m-me, and didn’t b-believe me when I a-accidentally let i-it slip t-that you l-like Gladio.”
He stopped in the middle of the sidewalk, stomach feeling queasy as Prompto took a deep breath, trying to steady himself. It didn’t really work, as the next few words came out in sobs. “H-He s-suggested g-getting our n-names removed f-from each o-o-other’s wrists, Noct.” There were a few concerned looks from nearby pedestrians, but Prompto ignored them as he wiped furiously at his eyes, strolling forward again unseeingly. “A-And I might’ve k-kissed him, a-after we said w-we’d just be f-friends. Fuck, he must b-be so m-m-mad at me.”

That just left Gladiolus in silent confusion. He knew that was his name: the human had just told him! To be repeating it… maybe the human was stranger than he thought. But still he had given him his name, and if he had to prove he knew that a few times then he would.
“You are colourful.” Was Gladiolus’ only response. Suit? He understood the other word, but not his ‘suit’ but… His eyes trailed over Prompto. His hands and face were one colour, but the rest of his body was black and blue, almost like… “Suit… your second skin? Why is your ‘suit’ colourful?”
But in a way that made sense… he knew others were different from him. Humans must have been the same. “Did they take you too? Why?” Gladiolus was curious: he could see no scars on Prompto. “What I remember… deep water. Home.”
Prompto’s cheeks flushed lightly as he realized - stupid, stupid him - that Gladio wouldn’t get the joke. “Sorry, that’s a silly human saying.” Sometimes he hung out with so many mers (Well, Iggy, really, and sometimes Aranea) that knew human sayings it just slipped into conversation without him realizing.
The blonde nodded when Gladio said ‘suit’. “Yes, my suit is like a second skin, one I can take on and off. Humans have lots of second skins, most are not as tight as this one.” He plucked at the suit. “We wear this one because our skin turns wrinkly in water, and in colder waters like yours our body temperature will drop but unlike you, we don’t adapt so well. In colder waters like this, we can freeze to death without a suit.” Morbid, but true. “Mine is so colorful because I think it sets me apart from the others here, who wear those black suits. The other humans care about you, but more about your health and if we can release you or not depending on if they think you can survive on your own.” He rolled his eyes, but a frown tugged at the corners of his mouth. “Some choose to stay, like Ignis, and some are more... forced.” Like Aranea.
“But I care. I want to get to know you all, and to help in any way I can,” he explained. “I started to learn mer on my own, but Ignis and Aranea helped the most, really. Ignis especially.” Prompto’s frown changed to a sad smile as he looked around to make sure none of his co-workers were around before he rolled up his right sleeve. “Yes, they took me, but I was taken away because my father was not a kind man.” He showed Gladio the barcode tattooed onto his wrist. “He hurt me, and to save me, others took me in and raised me. I was always an outsider, though. But here, in this place, it’s more home to me than anyplace before now.”

He mewed in response, batting at the faucet while he purred loud. His tail twitched in anticipation. Ardyn wanted a nice, warm bath and be pampered a little. The kitten jumped down from the tub and started to rub up against Prompto’s ankles, looking up at him with his big golden eyes.
“All right, all right,” Prompto laughed lightly as he moved to kneel next to the tub, picking Ardyn up carefully into one hand and setting him in his lap as he began to run the water. Plugging up the tub once the water was warm enough, the blonde lightly scratched away at the kitten’s ears, humming softly. Something told him living with this kitten (as temporary as he was certain it was going to be) was going to be an adventure all on it’s own; and that Ardyn was quite pampered by his owner.
caecus-scientia:
Ignis smiled a little bit at his omega as the younger man turned his attention to the food in front of him briefly. He took a bite of his own food, nodding as Prompto spoke to show he was listening. If he liked things that were spicy, then he could certainly accommodate that. He didn’t mind a little spice either. And he did love the idea of seeing his omega happy.
The younger man took a bite of the food and for a moment seemed as if his whole world was shaken. Ignis chuckled softly at his praise, the amazement in his voice. “I’m glad you enjoy my cooking,” he murmured smiling faintly at the younger man. “It will make cooking for you in the future quite enjoyable.”
Honestly, enjoyment wasn’t enough to describe how the omega was feeling about what he was eating; the quiet moans that followed were almost orgasmic. Prompto was being careful not to eat too quickly, as he didn’t want for it to be gone yet, but it was just so... good.
The omega’s cheeks flushed as he glanced once more at Ignis, heart skipping a beat as Ignis smiled at him again. He nodded in agreement, swallowing and (not noticing the bit of rice at the corner of his mouth) smiled widely, sweetly. “It’s really, really good, Ignis. Thank you,” Prompto said softly.
spec-taculcr:
Ignis was glad that Prompto couldn’t see his grin when Prompto responded so brightly: as if a massive weight had been lifted off his shoulders. A weight that Ignis was happy to take himself. “Yes, though it would be nice to hear it again.” He teased as he pulled out his notebook. He flipped through the page for the curry, and added what they would need to his own mental check list.
“Would you like some seasoned vegetables with it, or some rice?” He wondered. Usually he would lean towards the former… but tonight it was about Prompto, not Noctis’ diet. He could let go for once. “And what about a small pie for dessert? Or we could go and find some ice-cream?”
“Ignis, you an absolutely amazing person and I love you,” Prompto repeated cheekily, but quite serious all the same. His eyes shone brightly as he bit his lip in thought. He liked rice, and he liked vegetables, and even though it was his curry, it was Ignis who was making it, so. “Could we do both and mix them together? That way, we can cut down on half the rice, and use half the vegetables.”
It sounded like a nice compromise, but Prompto silently fretting about their budget, his chest tightening when he was reminded of their failed hunt, earlier. Biting the inside of his cheek, the blonde shook his head; even though he did like dessert, wouldn’t it be a bit costly? “We can skip the dessert, Iggy. You know I don’t care for too many sweets, and dinner’s going to be heavy enough as is.”
‘ did you throw the first punch? ’
“No way. I never throw the first punch if I can help it. They attacked me first, so I just defended myself, y’know?”

Ardyn looked around the bathroom and sniffed a little before looking at the edge of the tub. He did his best to judge his little body and the height before taking a leap and getting to the edge with some struggle. But he made it. Careful with his movements, he sniffed around some more, making his way to the faucet of the tub before mewling for his new master.
Prompto had been able to check to see if his brand of shampoo was okay for animal usage and one of his favorite fluffy towels before he heard the mewling. Making his way quickly into the bathroom, he looked around worriedly for the kitten before huffing a laugh at seeing the small thing already in the tub. “Eager, aren’t you, little guy?” he teased, setting the towel carefully aside.

The moment Gladio had started to praise him for how well his form was coming along the blonde’s face completely lit up, as it always did. Praise coming from Gladiolus was high in Prompto’s book, right up there with , no matter the setting; at work with training and forms, or just casually, like when Gladio helped him with his math studies back in high school.
“Thanks, big guy!” He grinned brightly.
clypeusamicitiam:
Gladio’s brow furrowed for just a second, before he was grinning too. “Do you now? You asking me to take you to a bed, blondie?” Gladio asked, teasing confidently and starting to walk just that way, smirking at the man in his arms.
Prompto could feel his blush burning across his cheeks, even to the tips of his ears at the simple tease. He took a deep breath. “A-And if I am?” he asked, feeling a bit more courageous. “What would y-you say, if I asked you t-to take me to a bed? Your bed.”
spec-taculcr:
It was crystal clear that Prompto needed this just as much, and if not more than Ignis did. It warmed him. He wasn’t as close to Prompto as Noctis, or even Gladiolus, but he did care for him. He deserved to forget about the hard day too.
He waited patiently for Prompto to be ready, and handing him the tarp bags for carrying their shopping. He set off, already listing what they needed in his head but… He glanced at Prompto. Ignis couldn’t help himself. “How about a green curry for dinner tonight?”
He took the bags without complaint, a little skip in his step as he followed just a step behind Ignis easily. If his mood had been brighter, he might’ve hummed, but instead he glanced around the town silently until Ignis spoke.
“You serious?” Prompto’s expression immediately brightened at the mention of his favorite curry. “Ignis, buddy, have I ever told you how amazing you are and that I love you?!” He grinned brightly, previous mood replaced by a brighter one at the mere idea of Ignis’ cooking.
