The End of Something Special

I haven’t posted on here in a hot minute LOL, but as it is the end of something special after a year of existence I figured I’d take some time to show appreciation. Not sure if anyone will actually read/see this, but here goes?

I can honestly say I was here from the beginning for Unus Annus. I remember seeing this channel pop up when it was made, with NO videos uploaded, then mysteriously there was this. Markiplier, who I’ve watched for many years now, starting on a year long project with Ethan who I only discovered fairly recently through Mark. In an effort to continue showing my support to Mark, I decided to join in on the adventure. Now, TECHNICALLY I wasn’t fully present for the whole ride. I definitely started watching from the beginning for a shot while, but ultimately fell off due to life and the final semester of my undergrad starting come January 2020. But as everyone knows, COVID happened and I was one of many who were ultimately forced to stay home and complete my degree (in Secondary Education in Mathematics) as best as I could as set by my college and the state department. There were good days and bad days. I watched some videos a long the way and caught up when I could. Then finally in late September I went through one of the toughest months I’ve experienced emotionally since this pandemic started. In an effort to distract myself from my emotional stressor, I started to catch-up again on what videos I’ve missed. And I can say that I am very glad I did. Although they claimed that this channel’s initial purpose was to basically do shit posts and post whatever video they wanted to do, this channel has helped me in the process to get back to a better place emotionally. Now that it is ending, I am sad it is going to be gone. It’s truly an end of an era, but I won’t stop supporting Mark and Ethan in what they will do after it ends in less than 3 hours (as of typing this post out). Thank you to Mark, Ethan, Amy, and the whole crew for this past year worth of videos. Thank you for your tireless effort to pump out each and everyone of these videos. I am but one among the many who got to experience this and I promise I won’t forget it. (I just ordered a couple pieces of merch so I definitely won’t forget once I get them LOL). Momento Mori. Just as a fun factoid since Marcus mentioned he kept the thought that each video they put out was someone’s birthday video... here’s which one was mine and I can say that I was not disappointed.

LA 2020 + Ode to You

It’s been about a week since I have gone and come back from my short weekend trip to LA. The main purpose of the trip being to attend the LA stop of Seventeen’s Ode to You tour. Besides this however, I had a jam packed weekend of seeing friends who live in LA and eating food we don’t have here at in Hawaii. It was a short trip, but I have no regrets. “Brief” recap of that trip, mostly for myself so I don’t forget the worthwhile trip. Saturday: Arrived at LAX just before 6am after taking a 4.5 hr red-eye flight (it was terrible). Spent 3 hours in the airport just sitting there either playing on my phone or trying not to fall asleep in probably the most public place. Eventually took a Lyft to our hotel and got to check in early; chilled for 30 minutes and went straight back out. Took a Lyft to have brunch in Cerritos with some guildmates from Maplestory and got boba with them after. Took a Lyft back to our hotel and crashed for a couple hours. When we woke up, my sisters-in-law and I decided to go find the nearest Din Tai Fung to get dinner and had to wait 1.5 hrs to get a table (totally worth it). Went back to our hotel after dinner and slept, excited for what Sunday was about. Sunday: Woke up early and chilled in bed. Messaged my long time friend the address for our hotel so she could come grab me for lunch. Got ready and waited an extra hour for her then went to have hotpot for lunch. Talked with her about life and how my trip was going while we had lunch and while she kept telling me to eat more. Went to this place famous for their rose sculpted ice cream and “puffle”. Got dropped off after and proceeded to rest up for the concert. Found out my light stick wasn’t working (TT.TT) Concert: Got to the venue fairly early, thinking we’d go check out the food trucks that were said to be there before the concert. Instead, we waited in the merch tent line so my sisters-in-law could get me a new light stick (also bargained with them cause I wanted to get the photo card set which includes 26 pictures). Got into the venue and found our seats after being lost for a couple minutes; which were GREAT by the way, even though we were all the way near the back of the venue. Once the concert started.. I have no words. My sisters-in-law had told me before that experiencing a group live in concert was something I needed to do at some point in my life. They were so right. I always had a interest in kpop, ever since I was in middle school and my best friend early on was Korean. I just never really got into it because I could never find the time or the right gateway into it. Unfortunately during early 2018 I went through one of the toughest break ups I’ve experienced to date. I basically became a shell of a person... If I wasn’t sleeping or doing something school related, I was basically in my own thoughts and constantly on the verge of breaking down. After a couple of weeks of listening to some “break up songs”, I decided to listen to some kpop instead. I found some sort of comfort in the fact that although I was listening to this music, I didn’t understand what was being said in the lyrics. Through the not-so-randomness of my kpop station on Pandora, I came across Seventeen’s song “Don’t Wanna Cry” and became interested. The rest from there is history. They’ve now become one of my most favorite groups, from their amazing performances to their all around dorkyness. So when I found out one of their tour dates fell on a long weekend for me and was not super far from home, I couldn’t not go. The concert itself was more than I could have ever hoped for. Their stage presence and passion while performing was unreal. The visuals were so unreal that I almost couldn’t believe I was experiencing the concert for myself. Just the fact that they now became these real, physical beings to me and not just a group I see on a screen... it was unbelievable. If they ever go back to LA or somewhere close by and I am able to, I would definitely attend another one of their concerts.
