Seoul Spark Youthful Abandon in ‘Real June’ Video | SPIN

The icy Montreal indie-poppers in Seoul have a unique ability at conjuring a youthful nostalgia out of delicate synth sweeps and hushed vocals, so it's appropriate that their video for 'Real June" (from last June's I Become a Shade) evokes those teenage salad days. In the clip, stars Charlotte Loseth (who makes similarly moving ambient music as Sea Oleena) and Alex White do what kids do: ride bikes, throw Big Gulps at concrete walls, and, uh, drink a lot of Powerade. So some of it isn't entirely legible, but director Julian Flavin — who also plays in Seoul — has the spirit right. Watch it here alongside a slate of upcoming tour dates. Seoul Swoon and Croon on Lightheaded ‘I Become a Shade’ LP | SPIN

Montreal-based indie-pop trio Seoul's full-length debut, I Become a Shade, has been something of a slow boil. Singles on the record date as far back as 2013, and they've been playing live all the while, but their music inhabits a groggy, wispy headspace — a dreamland that you can imagine even its creators getting lost in. But at long last, it'll be released on June 9, via Grand Jury. Evocative at times of the swooning emotions and side-chain compression exercises of similarly wilting electronic acts like Toro y Moi and Baths, it's the perfect sort of half-baked summer synth-pop record.
