[Film] “STATE OF PLAY” by Steven Dhoedt, February 5 @Korean Film Archive
Hey game aficionados! This one is for you.
Seoul Tech Society, Minch&Films and Korean Film Archive are glad to invite you to the screening of “State of play”, a documentary about Korean professional gamers. Director Steven Dhoedt will attend the screening and do a Q&A session afterwards.
"Man only plays when in the full meaning of the word he is a man, and he is only completely a man when he plays."
— Friedrich Schiller
A feature documentary about the world of South-Korean professional gamers.
Every year thousands of South-Koreans flock to the game stadiums in Seoul to watch the Pro League, a live sports event where professional gamers compete to be the best at one single video game: Starcraft.
It’s a title many young South Koreans dream of. The game itself is more than a decade old, almost ancient in the fast developing world of video games, but in South Korea it has become a national past-time. Like most specator sports, this world of eSports rapidly evolved in a multi-million dollar business.
In this story, we follow 3 boys in different stages of their career as a Pro-Gamer in South Korea. For some it will be a struggle to stay on top of their game, for others it might be the turning point of their lives.

As part of Stream - knowledge implementation program, SeoulTech is proud to announce the Launch Lab kick off event. Scientists, engineers, entrepreneurs, designers, and any tech enthusiast interested in real innovation discuss and propose (any) project, and solicit ideas and help from other SeoulTech members.
They present early-stage ideas to get feedback from the audience and recruit new members to further develop their ideas during six months Stream program. There will be six presentations total, but this is not a competition. The goal is to share ideas and to learn from each other.
Why?
We are very excited about technology and its potential in the near future, and we want to focus our energy into developing projects that have real-life consequences. We hope to help people start projects that can solve relevant issues in Infrastructure, Security, Energy, the Environment, and other areas that have actual consequences. The projects do not necessarily have to take the form of venture-funded startups. We also hope to attract open-source projects, non-profits, or other forms that do not necessarily fit into some predetermined pigeon hole. Of course, we will also help teams develop relationships with investors if a project has potential as a high-growth startup.
How?
Apply in RSVP. We will pre-select 6 ideas for the presentation (10 to 15 minute), and if anyone gets inspired meanwhile we will have an open mic for more ideas from any attendee. If you don’t get selected, don’t worry. There will be plenty of time for you to network with others and get feedback during the session. Remember, this is about creating a community, not about competition.
If you have an idea but don’t want to present, bring it with you anyways. There will be plenty of time for you to discuss and share with others.
If you are curious about joining a team or just want to listen and learn, then please come along. We will do our best to make sure everybody gets a chance to participate

SEOUL TECH VER 2.0 + ART Party @Platoon Kunsthalle
SEOUL TECH VER 2.0 + ART w/media artist Lee Rahm and sound performer Sunghyun Cho.
The worlds of art and technology are once again coming together on December 12 at Platoon Kunsthalle. SeoulTech pre-christmas party featuring an art-exhibition by Lee Rahm and a sound performance by Sunghyun Cho offers a perfect opportunity to connect with others who love tech and art.
Exhibition: “Rahm”
The word “Rahm” represents deep blue, the color of the ocean as extracted from the indigo plant. The same character in its verb form represents the overflowing of energy. In her first solo exhibition Rahm Lee goes beyond defining her medium. You will experience how her works converge and communicate over each others' realms to morph into different forms.
Rahm Lee
The works of Rahm Lee span a wide spectrum from video installations to experimental films that embody her theological and socio-critical perspective through metaphors and symbolism. Rahm Lee's first feature film "Virgin Forest"(2012) was invited to screen at the Torino Film Festival and the Edinburgh International Film Festival. Her second feature film " Yongmun"(2013), based on the motif of Korean humor, was presented in the competition category of the Jeonju Film Festival. Several of Rahm Lee's video installation pieces including "숨:결" and "Uprising Falls" is currently on exhibit. She is at present a resident artist at Platoon Kunsthalle.
http://www.leerahm.com/
Sunghyun Cho
Sunghyun Choʼs performative installations have their origin in the perceptive experience of nature, somewhat resembling the early experiences of an infant exploring his or her surroundings. The recurring themes of his works examine the notions of communication, forms generated from the dynamics of nature, and the relationship between space and sound.

Special guest: cyber underground w/ Max Goncharov, Nov 4 @BoB
Please, RSVP here
Do you want to know what is happening beneath the screen?
When: Tuesday, November 4
Let's discover together with Max Goncharov the deep dungeons of underground online economy. Then, we will have a fireside chat and ask him about his experience with shady guys of the Internet.
Max Goncharov is a senior security virus analyst at Trend Micro based in Germany; he is visiting Korea to present at the POC conference.
Details of his profile and the event's topics are below.
Topic 1:
45 Min.
“Building the Botnet. How much and how easy…”
Online fraud has long since moved from being a mere hobby to a means for cybercriminals to earn a living. Almost every day we can see reports of new cybercrime activity in social networks, blogs and forums, or the part of the easily 'visible' Internet.
There is another side to the Internet however - its criminal underbelly - and here just like on the blogs and forums, communication is key. In this talk we will cover the principles of underground information exchange, ways to secure money/goods in underground transactions and basic cyber hierarchy.
We will also talk about underground products and services. Crypt services, DDoS attacks, Traffic resale, Bulletproof servers, SMS Fraud, Spam services and Credit card Hijacking - these will be covered with pricing comparisons shown over the last 2-3 years. We will go through the typical pricing steps of a criminals attack - from buying software, all the way to monetize the volumes of infected victims.
This presentation will be based on the Max's research paper: http://gmax.at/101
Topic 2:
45 Min.
“APT Targeted attacks use case and cyber underground”
We will analyse some of the most popular Russian underground forums where we can see footprints of possible APT announcement. We will discuss attacks with interesting use cases, such as the attack on the Ukrainian Voting system, as well as possible leads to Russian attackers. Next we will take a look RAT tools and how they are available and wildly used for account hacking which can lead to APT.
