          ❛  yeah,  it  sorta  just  does  that.  don’t  have  much  control  over  that.  ❜  it  was  true,  try  as  she  might,  it seemed  her  face  couldn’t  quite  convey  the  expression  she  wanted.  ❛  really  ?  that’s  generous  of  ya.  i’d  appreciate  that  a  lot,  actually.  ❜  he  was  being  awfully  nice  to  her,  almost too nice,  but  before  seph  could  think  much  of it,  they  had arrived  to  the  great  hall.  ❛  well,  here  we  are.  time  to  get  some  much  needed  caffeine  in  my  system.  ❜

EMMA VANITY.

SHE  WAS  NEVER  THE  CONSOLING  TYPE   .   no   ,   mother  failed  to  teach  her  such  things   ;   and  yet  she  understood   .   her  own  nights  were  plagued  with  tossing  and  turning   ,   guilt  stricken  images  burning  behind  eyelids  whenever  they  closed   .   so  maybe  it  was  better  not  to  close  them  at  all   ?     but  this  was  emma  vanity    &    she  would  never  admit  to  such  sleepless  nights   .   it  simply  meant  her  mornings  consisted  of  extra  care  so  that  there  were  no  questions   .   no  blemishes   .     ❛     rough  night   ?      ❜    her  brow  was  arched   ,   stained  lips  sipping  the  dark  ,   caffeinated  drink   .     ❛     the  bags  under  your  eyes  says  it  all   .     ❜

             appearances  were  something  that  seph  had  always  cared  about,  thanks  to  her  mother.  even  as  a  little  girl,  it  was  something  she  was  taught  to  have  pride  in.  yet,  here  she  sat  in  the  great  hall  trying  (  and  failing  )  to  keep  herself  together.  it  had  been  a  rough  night,  after  receiving  a  letter  from  her  sister  telling  her  she  wasn’t  welcome  home  over  the  holidays.  a  part  of  her  was  relieved,  not  wanting  to  be  there.  another  part  was  disheartened.  reality  was  closing  in  on  her  and  she  was  struggling  to  come  to  terms  with  it  all. it  was  all  she  could  do  to  look  up  at  the  slytherin  with  a smile,  ❛  i’m good,  but  thanks  for  the  concern.  ❜

     ❛     i’ll  keep  up   ,   promise   .     ❜     there  was  a  nervous  giggle  that  followed   ,   fingers  messing  with  the  end  of  his  sleeves  as  he  fell  in  step  with  the  brunette   .   what  was  his  trick  ?    benjy  wasn’t  sure   .   maybe  it  was  over  compensation  for  the  dread  that  clouded  the  wizarding  world   ━━  or  maybe  it  was  all  the  sugar  he  had  consumed  moments  before   ?    either  seemed  logical   ,   but  he  gave  persephone  a  more  simplified  answer   .      ❛     had  a  good  nights  sleep   .   people  always  underestimate  that  you  know   ?    but  i  take  it  you  aren’t  a  morning  person   ?   at  least …   you’ve  never  seemed  like  you  were   .     ❜

         he  was  right,  of  course.  persephone  wasn’t  overly  fond  of  the  idea  that  was  morning.  there  was  no  real  rhyme  or  reason  for  it,  which  stumped  the  brunette.  she  just didn’t  like  them.  ❛  that  obvious,  huh  ?  and  here  i  thought  i  hid  it  well.  ❜   it  was  a poor  attempt  at  a  joke,  but  it  was  all  she  could  muster.  ❛  a  good  night’s  sleep  ?  must  be  nice.  mind  gettin’  me  some of  that  ?  ❜

               the action might in itself might have been nothing (  what was letting someone hide behind you, after all?  ) but the implication was anything but. that seph would still have her back (  but that had never really been in question, right?  ) she smiled through it all though. “ i’m glad i was able to provide it then ”

             there was a moment of awkward pause for persephone. she was happy to have the ravenclaw by her side still, although given their past there were times where persephone wasn’t sure what to say next. ❛  so tell me, how have things been  ?  what’s the latest with you  ?  ❜

his  stride  was  quick  as  he  fell  into  step  with  the  hufflepuff   ;   shoes  consciously  making  sure  to  stay  upright   as  to  not  miss  a  step   .   for  being  a  seeker   ,   benjy  was  a  rather  CLUMSY  BOY   .      ❛     coffee   ,   of  course   .   well   wanna  head  there  together   ?     ❜   his  voice  came  out  an  octave  higher  than  usual   ,   fingers  going  up  to  mess  with  his  locks   nervously   .   the  lion  wasn’t  sure  if  persephone  was  the  type  to  be  grouchy  in  the  morning  or  not   ,   so  he  readied  himself  for  a  loud  ‘ no ’   .

          her first instinct was to say NO, and quickly move on to her usual routine. however, considering it wasn’t a far walk, she simply shrugged.   ❛  sure, why not  ?   just as long as you’re able to keep up.  ❜    the conversation would keep her awake at least. right now, that was all that seemed to really matter.   ❛  so... how come you’re extremely chipper at this time in the morning, anyway  ?  ❜   a poor attempt at a conversation starter, but persephone didn’t seem to care at this point. ❛   tell me, what is your secret  ?  ❜

                      RETURNING  TO  HIS  SEAT      ,      he  leaned  back  and  shut  his  eyes  again     ,     almost  as  if  he’d  never  moved  in  the  first  place     .      ❛    I  might've  heard  something  along  those  lines  before      .      ❜      It  wasn’t  always  a  compliment      ,     that  was  for  sure      .     How  often  was  odd  and  strange  interchangeable  with  interesting     ?        ❛     Good  luck      .      ❜     His  words  were  said  almost  in  passing     ,     as  if  he  were  trying  to  end  the  conversation      .       ❛     Oh     !     ❜     Opening  his  eyes     ,     he  looked  her  way      .      ❛      Maybe  keep  it  between  us      ?     Where  you  got  that  book     ?     ❜

          she raised an eyebrow questioningly at his last sentence, although she fully knew why he said it. persephone nodded in response.   ❛  don’t worry, your secret is safe with me. cross my heart,  ❜   she spoke, while mimicking the motions onto her chest. if there was one thing persephone blackwood was good at doing, it was keeping secrets. that trait was something learned early on, coming from a family of politicians. she took one last look at him, almost tempted to say something else, but feeling the conversation nearing at an end she shifted her focus towards the book. definitely more interesting than the one before, that much was for sure.

                        ❝   careful, you got a little close to agreeing with me.   ❞    evan snickered, seemingly unfazed by the insult and sparkling gaze following the trail of the girl’s annoyance. a bit of paper fluttered to the ground as her fingers finally closed over the hard shell of her prize.  perfect.   but then persephone was storming off and her eyes widened, feet following quickly after.    ❝  whats’it twat ?  what’s   you’re   brill idea then ?  or r’ye not even going to try to prove me wrong ?   ❞    picking up her pace to catch the back of persephone’s robes. evan gave the fabric a light, childish tug.   ❝   come on, miss   ‘success’.  what’s the bloody secret ?  ❞ 

              persephone stopped in her tracks, debating whether or not to turn around. eventually she gave in, her gaze falling onto evan’s features.    ❛  what is the point in even having this conversation  ?  you are just wasting my time  ——  time that could be spent with me going to class and actually doing something with my life.  ❜   why she was still bothering to talk to the girl was beyond her, the message clearly not getting through.   ❛  are we done with this pointless conversation yet  ?  or are ya plannin’ on going on some more  ?  ❜

                         ❝   exactly,   princess.  i don’t do discreet.   ❞    evan shifted her bag over her shoulder, digging through the contents of crumbled parchments and bent quills.    ❝  you see this face ?  she’s a curse… . you wouldn’t understand.   ❞    she hadn’t been serious, ( was she ever ? )  but the ringing sound of persephone’s doubt was pushing her towards changing that. surely there was some long-forgotten dumgbomb in the bottom of the bag somewhere. what would be the worst that could happen ? detention ?  the look on persephone’s face ? well … that was probably closer to positive territory,  ❝   … also we’re late on like, day two here. ‘gotta set the tone for the year somehow.  ❞

             she let out a frustrated huff as she crossed her arms in front of her.   ❛  you’re right, i wouldn’t understand havin’ a face like yours. it surely is going to draw the attention towards you, although not for any good reasons. that’s the real curse..  ❜  her words were unusually harsh, she wasn’t one to snap back with such cruelty. the slytherin seemed to know just the right buttons to press.    ❛  now if you’ll excuse me, some of us want to actually succeed in school.  ❜    with that being said, she adjusted the bag resting on her shoulder, and headed straight towards the classroom, happy to be getting away from the other.

                           HE WAVED  HIS  FINGER      ,     a  physical  agreement  to  her  words      ;      then  again     ,     almost  anything  could  be  considered  more  interesting  than  what  she  was  reading  before      .       ❛       Yes      .     ❜    His  answer  was  blunt     ,     perhaps  even  a  little  dry     .     He  didn’t  hesitate     ,     nor  did  he  regret  it      .     The  school  had  a  nasty  habit  of  keeping  his  interests  at  bay     ,     but  that  didn’t  mean  he  had  to  keep  his  mouth  shut      .      ❛      Mostly  because  I  find  everything  else  boring    .    Repetitive     .    But  who  knows     .  .  .     you  might  find  yourself  agreeing  with  me  once  you’ve  finished  it      .       ❜    

             ❛  you’re an interesting bloke, ya know that right  ?  ❜    persephone couldn’t deny that her interest was piqued at that moment. she could understand the allure towards the darkness, mostly because hogwarts had all of it tucked away so neatly, only brought out to attention for special circumstances. even then, the dark arts were restricted. literally, kept away in the restricted section of the school library.  ❛  i’ll definitely have to let ya know about that. i am... definitely curious to find out.  ❜

a  boyish  ,  nearly  infectious  laugh  echoed  down  the  staircase  that  led  to  the  entrance  of  the  gryffindor  tower  .   &    after  a  few  moments  ,  a  grinning  benjy  emerged  bouncing  down  the  steps  with  a  joyful  hop  to  his  step  .   all  that  was  on  his  mind  was  breakfast  .   his  feet  nearly  slipped  on  the  marble  floor  in  his  hurry  ;  a  loud  giggle  erupting  next  until  he  noticed  someone  familiar  .      ❛     morning   !      ❜   he  beamed  ,  robes  whisking  around  him  before  his  steps  slowed  .      ❛     are  you  heading  to  the  great  hall  too  ?    because  i  could  go  for  some  bacon  and  eggs  myself .    ❜

           persephone was NOT a morning person by any means. if it was up to her, she would be up at noon to begin the day. unfortunately, the professors had different ideas for their students. torture, the young hufflepuff believed it was, there wasn’t much she could do about that though. she walked out of the common room that morning, looking more put together than she felt, and headed to breakfast when the gryffindor made himself known. he seemed way too happy for the morning, but she simply shrugged her shoulders. ❛  yeah, of course i am. how else am i going to get through this day without at least one cup of coffee  ?  ❜

    BECAUSE  HE  WAS  NOT  HEARTLESS       ,     Alastor  gave  a  quick  nod      .     He  read  it      ,     and  damn  it     ,     the  girl  wasn’t  wrong     .     Though  the  boy  always  found  anything  other  than  the  Dark  Arts  to  be  dull  by  comparison      .       ❛      I  have       .     ❜      He  remained  in  place  only  for  another  second     ,     grumbling  something  inaudible  as  he  stood  up  and  disappeared  into  one  of  the  library  aisles      .   

    COMING BACK    ,     he  held  a  much  smaller  book  in  his  hand      ,     the  leather  expensive  but  worn      .      ❛      Dekkard  explains  the  same  theory      ,     but  it’s  a  quarter  as  long  and  it  makes  far  more  sense   .     ❜        The  only  reason  he  knew  that  was  because  a  majority  of  the  book  focused  on  dark  magic     ,     his  MAIN  interest      .      ❛      I’d  read  that  instead      .      ❜

  persephone eyed the book handed to her carefully, not sure exactly what to think. the dark arts didn’t hold much interest for her, but it did sound more interesting than what she previously was reading. ❛  alright, i’ll give it a shot. can’t be worse than what i was readin’, anyway.  ❜  she settled herself comfortably back into the chair, before looking up at the boy in front of her. ❛  is this the sort of thing ya find ya read often  ?  ❜

HANNAH BLISHWICK.

“I’m on a liquid diet.” Hannah pulled her backpack towards her before muttering a light “thank you, though.” She slung the old thing back over her shoulder and got up, food starting to sound more appealing in the process.
